Aim:Epidermal growth factor(EGF)is a mitogen for hepatocyte grown in vitro,and its expression is up-regulated during liver *** also plays an important role in tumor initiation and *** goal of this study is to assess whether EGF is associated with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and also whether it is a predictive factor of shortened ***:Serum EGF levels were evaluated in a total of 151 subjects:51 patients with unresectable HCC,(21 of them were eligible for transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)and serum EGF levels were measured before and 1 week after TACE),40 patients with chronic hepatitis without cirrhosis,40 patients with cirrhosis,and 20 healthy *** demographic and laboratory variables were evaluated as predictive factors of survival in a Cox regression multivariate analysis using SPSS ***:The mean serum level of EGF in patients with HCC was 784.49 pg/mL,which was significantly higher(Pel in cirrhotic patients was 144.69 pg/mL;in those with chronic hepatitis C without cirrhosis,it was 338.64 pg/mL;and in healthy controls,it was 297.15 pg/*** group Ia patients who underwent TACE,the mean serum level of EGF was 759.76±287.88 pg/mL before TACE,and 801.14±276.12 pg/mL 1 week after treatment(P=0.34).On multivariate Cox regression analysis only age(P=0.03)and higher serum EGF level(P=0.005),were inversely correlated with overall ***:EGF levels were found to be significantly higher in HCC patients and together with age were the only predictors of poor survival in these *** was an increase in EGF levels 1 week after TACE in response to hypoxia;however,this increase was not statistically significant.

Background: Early promotion of hepatitis B (HB) vaccination among health care workers is an important component of the HBV infection control. No available data assess immune response of HB vaccination among Egyptian medical students. Objective: we conducted this study to evaluate the immune response among medical students after completion of their vaccination schedule. Methods: A total of 150 Egyptian medical students were included. Three doses of recombinant HB vaccine had been administered to all participating students at 0, 1 and 6 months. Antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen (Anti-HBs) titers, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and total antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) were measured by enzyme immunoassay, 1 to 2 months after completion of vaccination course. Results: Among 150 students included, the mean age was 22.4 ± 1.7 years (range 18 - 28 years). Fifty nine (39.4%) were males and 91 (60.6%) were females. All students have anti-HBs levels more than 100 IU/L. The mean anti-HBs of included students was 8994.2 ± 6373.1 IU/L. There was no significant difference of anti-HBs levels regarding age, sex, residence or body mass index distribution. Conclusion: Early HB vaccination of health care workers is associated with good immune response and should be encouraged.

A pressure dependent Schrodinger equation is used to find the conditions that lead to superconductivity. When no pressure is exerted, the superconductor resistance vanishes beyond a critical temperature related to the repulsive force potential of the electron gass, where one assuming the electron total energy to be thermal, where applying mechanical pressure destroys Sc when it exceeds a certain critical value. However when the electron total energy is an assumed to be that of the free electron model and that the pressure is thermal and mechanical, the situation is different. The quantum expression for resistance shows that the increase of mechanical pressure increases the critical temperature. Such phenomenon is observed in high temperature cupper group.

A serological survey of Toxoplasma gondii was conducted using LAT （Latex Agglutination Test） on 205 sera collected from working horses and donkeys in Khartoum State, Sudan. The overall sero-prevalence of the investigated equines was 32.7%. Antibodies to T. gondii were found in 38% of 100 horses and 27.6% of 105 donkeys. The titers were 1：2 （4 heads）, 1：4 （11 heads）, 1：8 （13 heads）, 1：16 （17 heads）, 1：32 （5 heads）, 1：64 （10 donkeys） and 1：128 （7 donkeys）. Neither the area nor animal species showed significant differences between the investigated groups. However, age was reported to show significant （P 〈 0.05） effect on equine toxoplasmosis in the Sudan. This is the first report on equine toxoplasmosis in the Sudan.

Performance Evaluation of One-Way Concrete Slabs Reinforced with New Developed GFRP Bars

The incorporation of fiber-reinforced-polymer (FRP) bars in construction as a replacement to steel bars provides a superior material which is capable to overcome corrosion problems. However, serviceability requirements are important issues to be considered in the design of concrete elements reinforced with glass-FRP (GFRP) bars which are known to have larger deflections and wider crack widths as well as weaker bond compared with steel reinforced concrete. As a solution to this problem, square GFRP bars are proposed. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation that was performed, in which newly developed square and circular GFRP bars were fabricated in the lab. Also, the GFRP bars were tested and used to reinforce concrete slabs. A total of nine full-scale GFRP-reinforced concrete (RC) one-way slabs were constructed, tested and analyzed, considering the most influencing parameters such as the cross sectional shape of GFRP bars, reinforcement ratio, the concrete characteristics strength, and adding polypropylene fibers to the concrete mixture. The test results were showed that, the tested slabs with GFRP square bars improved the deflection and cracking behavior as well as the ultimate load.

Limiting the Migration of Bisphenol A from Polycarbonate Using Dielectric Barrier Discharge

Dielectric barrier discharge is used as a cheap technique for surface treatment of polycarbonate. The discharge system is working in open air at atmospheric pressure. The treatments are carried out at low discharge powers (1.5 and 2 W) for treatment time (2.5 - 15 min). The treated samples show decrease in the contact angle and increase in the crystallinity, thermal stability and surface roughness. The effect of ozone on the increase in the oxygen containing functional groups is discussed. The treatment process shows effective limitation of the migration of bisphenol A from the surface of polycarbonate due to the cross linking. Zero migration of bisphenole A is recorded as the sample is treated for 7.5 min. The treatment process is found to be very efficient with very low cost.

Background and Objectives: Risk-adapted therapy for children with HL is directed toward high survival, minimal toxicity and optimal quality of life, with long term follow up. We assess the impact of prognostic factors associated with local treatment failure of pediatric HL patients with unfavorable criteria treated with combined modality: Alternating ABVD (Doxorubicin, Bleomycin, Vinblastine and Decarbazine) and COEP (Cyclophosphamide, Oncovin, Etoposide and Prednisone) chemotherapy and response-based, involved-field radiation for newly diagnosed unfavorable pediatric HL patients, also will detect toxicities and long-term complications observed in the patients. Methods: This prospective study was carried out from January 2010 to January 2018, with a median follow up of 74 months (range 8 - 103 months). 54 patients were eligible for this study stratified into two groups: intermediate risk (IR) and high-risk group (HR). Patients were treated with (4 - 6 cycles) and (6 - 8 cycles) respectively of alternating ABVD/COEP chemotherapy followed by involved-field radiation therapy (IFRT): 15 Gy for patients achieved complete response, and 25.5 Gy for those achieved a partial response. Results: 27 patients were IR and 27 patients were HR. There were 16 treatment failures;5 patients had progressive disease;and 11 patients had a relapse. 9 patients died from their disease progression. The 5-year overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) rates (±SE) were 81.8% ± 5.7% and 71.8% ± 6.2% respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that the only independent factor for inferior OS was radiotherapy. Conclusion: Treatment results of unfavourable HL patients in our study are satisfactory for with IR group but not for HR group who needs intensification of therapy. Radiotherapy is considered as a cornerstone in the treatment of the patients with unfavourable criteria with better assessment of early responders needed by PET-CT to identify patients at risk for relapse.

Stroke Severity Is the Major Player in Post-Stroke Urinary Tract Infection in Patients with First Ever Ischemic Stroke

Background: Urinary tract infections UTIs occur repeatedly after stroke and are related to bad outcomes with increased rates of deterioration in neurological state during hospitalization, death or long term disability as well as increased length of hospitalization. Factors found to predict UTI include stroke severity, depressed consciousness level, increased post-void residual urine volume, and diabetes mellitus. Stroke severity appears to be the most important predictor of infection risk. We aimed to determine the risk factors associated with UTI after acute stroke, and its association with outcome. Subjects and Methods: This is prospective cohort study. We analysed clinical data of 100 patients with first ever ischemic stroke. We assessed risk factors for UTI, as well as clinical outcome. Results: Urinary tract infection was found in 72% of our subjects. On univariate analysis, patients with UTI were more likely to have had a more severe stroke, more likely to be catheterized and more likely to have a higher serum creatinine level. The multivariate analysis revealed that greater stroke severity was independently associated with increased risk of developing UTI. Greater stroke severity measured by CSS was independently associated with unfavorable outcome on discharge. Conclusion: UTI is common after acute stroke. It is associated with more severe stroke.

In this paper, we consider the Neumann initial-boundary value problem for the Keller-Segel chemotaxis system with singular sensitivity (0.1) is considered in a bounded domain with smooth boundary, Ω ⊂Rn (n ≥ 1), where d1 > 0, d2 > 0 with parameter χ ∈ R. When d1 = d2 + χ, satisfying for all initial data 0 ≤ n0 ∈ C0 and 0 v0∈ W1,∞ (Ω), we prove that the problem possesses a unique global classical solution which is uniformly bounded in Ω × (0, ∞).
