Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the most commonlyencountered digestive diseases in the world, with the prevalence continuing toincrease. Many patients are successfully treated with lifestyle modifications andproton pump inhibitor therapy, but a subset of patients require more aggressiveintervention for control of their symptoms. surgical treatment with fundoplicationis a viable option for patients with GERD, as it attempts to improve the integrityof the lower esophageal sphincter (lEs). While surgery can be as effective asmedical treatment, it can also be associated with side effects such as dysphagia,bloating, and abdominal pain. Therefore, a thorough pre-operative assessment iscrucial to select appropriate surgical candidates. Newer technologies arebecoming increasingly available to help clinicians identify patients with true lEsdysfunction, such as pH-impedance studies and high-resolution manometry(HRM). Pre-operative evaluation should be aimed at confirming the diagnosis ofGERD, ruling out any major motility disorders, and selecting appropriate surgicalcandidates. HRM and pH testing are key tests to consider for patients with GERDlike symptoms, and the addition of provocative measures such as straight legraises and multiple rapid swallows to HRM protocol can assess the presence ofunderlying hiatal hernias and to test a patient’s peristaltic reserve prior tosurgery.

Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of solar Heating systems at specified Output Conditions of Hot Water

The theoretical analysis discussed in this work is a suitable mathematical tool by which the performance of the proposed collector can be predicted. The obtained experimental results coincide with the obtained theoretical data obtained from the devised computer program. Controlled output temperature can be obtained from the proposed system. The performance of the tested collector under the proposed intermittent flow conditions overcomes that of the conventional thermosyphone flow collector.

Identification of speckle-type POZ protein somatic mutations in African American prostate cancer

The speckle-type POZ protein （sPOP） is a tumor suppressor in prostate cancer （PCa）. sPOP somatic mutations have been reported in up to 15% of PCa of those of European descent. However, the genetic roles of sPOP in African American （AA）-PCa are currently unknown. We sequenced the sPOP gene to identify somatic mutations in 49 AA prostate tumors and identified three missense mutations （p.Y87C, p.F102s, and p.G111E） in five AA prostate tumors （10%） and one synonymous variant （p.11061） in one tumor. Intriguingly, all of mutations and variants clustered in exon six, and all of the mutations altered conserved amino acids. Moreover, two mutations （p.F102s and p.G111E） have only been identified in AA-PCa to date. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis showed a lower level of sPOP expression in tumors carrying sPOP mutations than their matched normal prostate tissues. In addition, sPOP mutations and novel variants were detected in 5 of 27 aggressive PCa and one of 22 less aggressive PCa （P 〈 0.05）. Further studies with increased sample size are needed to validate the clinicopathological significance of these sPOP mutations in AA-PCa.

Effect of Dietary lipid levels on Fatty Acids Composition of Cultured sparusaurata

The aim of this study was to determine the progressive evolution of fish muscle fatty acids composition feeding by different lipid levels of farmed Mediterranean gilthead sea bream （sparusaurata）. During twenty one weeks, sparusaurata were hand-feed two diets with protein and lipid ratios 47/20 （Diet A） and 45/22 （Diet B） respectively. At the end of the feeding period, lipid contents of muscle, as well as fatty acids profiles of different portions of the muscles were studied. Results indicated the effects of fatty acids profiles of diets throughout the liver and white muscle fillet （dorsal, middle and ventral）. These were more noticeable when sparusaurata was fed on the diet Athat decreased the content of monounsaturated fatty acids （MUFA）, and polyunsaturated fatty acids （PUFA） in all the muscles during the period of feeding while the saturated fatty acids （sFA） content tended to increase and it was lower than ones in the muscles of sparusaurata fed on diet B. The highest amount of PUFA and docosahexaenoic acid, （22：6n-3 DHA） were found among the different portions of ventral muscles. In addition, the progressive evolution of different parts of muscle＇s fatty acid profiles showed significant differences in contents of sFA, PUFA and especially the n-3 PUFA. However, the content of MUFA seems to be alike in different muscles and tended to decrease in dorsal and ventral muscle from Do to Df and inversely when the fish were fed on diet A.

Automated Multi-Meter Method for the scaling of low AC Voltage from 200 mV to 2 mV

A set of seven single junction thermal converter Micropotentiometers (μPots) has been constructed at the National Institute for standards (NIs), Egypt. This set has been built to cover the low ac voltage ranges from 2 mV to 200 mV at frequencies from 40 Hz up to 20 kHz. The construction of the μPots set has been presented and an adopted calibration method has been performed as well. This method has been performed by means of a step-down procedure using a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM). The scaling procedures have been carried out in sequential steps starting from the calibration of the 200 mV-μpot by using DMM that is accurately calibrated at its 200 mV ac voltage range down to 2 mV-μPot. Furthermore, a new automatic calibration system has been established to achieve the scaling procedures. This system has been specially designed using laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (labVIEW) software to overcome the deficiencies of manual methods. The automatic calibration has been investigated of all mPots at different frequencies. The ac-dc differences for the μPots and their uncertainty evaluation from 2 mV to 200 mV at different frequencies from 40 Hz to 20 kHz have been determined.

strong>Background:strong> Pediatric surgery in developing countries faces serious problems of inadequate infrastructures and equipment. Since July 2019, a new department was created in the north of Togo. It is in this context that this study is initiated, with the aim of taking stock of the epidemiological distribution of pediatric surgical diseases. Material and methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study over a period of eighteen months, from October 30, 2019 to April 30, 2021. It took place in the pediatric surgery department of the Kara teaching hospital. It concerns pathologies seen at the consultation in the department collected in consultation register. Epidemiological parameters were studied. Results: In eighteen (18) months, two hundred and fifty-nine children, were seen in pediatric surgery consultation at the Kara Teaching Hospital. The annual frequency of consultations was 172.66. The monthly frequency was 14.39. The average age of the children was 4.56 years with extremes of 2 days and 15 years. There were 194 boys (74.90%) and 65 girls (25.10%). At the consultation, whatever the reason, the examination was normal in 17 children and 242 children had abnormalities. Two hundred and twelve children (81.85%) had each one abnormality and 30 children (11.58%) had each at least two. A total of 298 diseases were reported in the 242 children. These were 218 congenital diseases (73.15%) dominated by urological abnormalities with 37.16% of cases and 80 acquired diseases (26.85%).
