novel 3-phenyl/pyridinyl-trans-2-(aryl/heteryl)vinyl-3H-quinazolin-4-ones 3a,b, 4a, 5a, 7a and their 6,7-difluoro de- rivatives 3c,d, 4b, 5b, 7b have been obtained by condensation of the correspondent 2-methylquinazolin-4-ones 1, 6 with aromatic (heterocyclic) aldehydes in the presence of ZnCl2 (AcOna) or by the reaction of 2-methyl-3,1-benzoxazin-4- ones 2 with the Shiff bases. Effects of aryl(heteryl) substituents on photophysical properties of (aryl/heteryl) quinazolinylethenes have been studied.

By in vitro visible electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrophotometry method we demonstrated that n-isonicotinoyl-n’-(3-etoxy-2-hydroxybenzaldehyd) hydrazone (SH11) exhibits radical scavenging activity (SSA). Malondialdehyde (MDA) in mice treated with InH was increased (2.578 ± 0.349 mM vs. 2.024 ± 0.164 μM, p SOD/mg Pr vs. 2.273 ± 0.317 USOD/mg Pr, p CAT/mg Pr, vs. 47.070 ± 16.490 UCAT/mg Pr, p ntreated controls. The combination InH + SH11 (30 mg/kg p.o.) showed reduced levels of MDA, compared to the InH-treated (mean 2.291 ± 0.025 μM than 2.578 ± 0.349, p nation with the lowest reduction of SOD compared to the controls was 151 mg/kg i.p. InH + 30 mg/kg p.o. SH11, but there was a significant difference in SOD activities between the group treated with this combination and the untreated controls (p nation, with CAT levels, close to the controls was 151 mg/kg i.p. InH + 30 mg/kg p.o. SH11.

A primary soil-forming process can take place on the concentration waste of apatite-nepheline ores, whose biological recultivation was carried out more than 40 years ago. This process is characterized by the following features: forming of a thin litter with the content of organic carbon at the level of 8-12%, accumulation of humic substances in the sub-litter layer and the change of рН values. Microorganisms are biocatalysts of primary soil formation processes and one of the main factors that determine the specificity of this process. The prokaryotic complex of the newly formed soils, generated from nepheline sands, is considerably different from that of zonal soils on moraine sediments. The former ones are dominated by gram-positive bacteria, mainly actinobacteria, as well as by their filamentous forms (actinomycetes), whereas the latter ones are dominated by gram-negative bacteria. A common feature of invertebrate’s complexes in nepheline sands is the low species diversity, small-size and quickly development of microfauna and mesofauna representatives and the dependence of succession of microarthropods pioneer groups on the succession of bacteria and fungi.

A consistent physical and mathematical model of the propagation of electromagnetic waves in an inhomogeneous medium with strong discontinuities of the electromagnetic field at the interface of two media, which is a rough surface, was developed. Mathematical modeling of rough surfaces and their profiles was carried out using fractal geometry, which allows us to display the topology of the object as close as possible to reality. For real heterogeneous rough structures, we have developed a through-counting method that takes into account the continuity of the total current at the interfaces of adjacent media, the effect of induced surface charge and surface current. This approach lets one avoid the necessity to set surface impedances depending on the structure of the field being determined and on the material properties.

We examined a cohort of 93 cystic fibrosis(CF)male patients who were pancreatic-sufficient(PS-CF;n=40)or pancreatic-insufficient(PI-CF;n=53).Complex semen examination was performed,including standard semen analysis,quantitative karyological analysis(QKA)of immature germ cells(IGCs),transmission electronic microscopy(TEM),biochemical analysis,and sperm DnA fragmentation by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nickend labeling(TUnEL)*** was diagnosed in 83(89.2%)*** other 10(10.8%)patients were found to be nonazoospermic and showed various spermatological diagnoses(asthenozoospermia,n=2;asthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;oligoasthenozoospermia,n=1;oligoasthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;and normozoospermia,n=1)with no specific morphological *** was detected in 89.2%azoospermic and 30.0%nonazoospermic *** seminal pH(nd in 74(89.2%)of 83 azoospermic *** leukocytospermia(2.0×10^(6)-2.2×10^(6)ml^(-1))was revealed in 2.4%azoospermic and 40.0%nonazoospermic semen *** signs of partial meiotic arrest at prophase I were found in 4 of 6 nonazoospermic patients examined by QKA of *** content of fructose and citrate was low in oligospermic and normal in nonoligospermic semen *** increased percentage(>30%)of spermatozoa with noncondensed(“immature”)chromatin was revealed in 2 of 6 nonazoospermic semen samples analyzed by TEM.

This study aimed at the assessment of applicability of static supercritical carbon dioxide extraction method (SFE) in biogeochemical characterization of oil shales as an alternative to the standard Soxhlet extration. A comparative investigation on yields and compositions of the solvent soluble bitumoids and their constituents extracted from Estonian Kukersite and Dictyonema oil shales by using Soxhlet extraction method (SEM) and static CO2 supercritical fluid extraction in an autoclave at varied subpyrolysis temperatures was carried out. Resulting from TLC- and GC-MS-analyses, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and neutral oxygen compounds were separated and identified. For the first time, in the composition of the Kukersite bitumoid, homologous series of n-alkanones-3 to n-alkanones-7 were detected. The extracts obtained were similar in both group and individual composition, and geochemical parametres calculated on the basis of aliphatic hydrocarbons including that made static SFE applicable to geochemical investigation of oil shales.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of the technological level in small-scale dual-purpose cow-calf Bos indicus female operations on the resumption of the ovarian activity post-partum. A total of 13 small scale dual-purpose Bos indicus × Bos taurus operations were included in this experiment and they were classified according to their technological status as: high technological status (HT), medium technological status (MT) and low technological status (LT). ninety-three mature cows were treated with either a CIDR (controlled internal drug release device) with estradiol benzoate (CIDR+EB) or alone (CIDR). At day 9 all animals received intravaginally a CIDR for nine days. At day 0, the CIDR was withdrawn and 24 hours later one dose of estradiol benzoate was administered to 51 cows (17 in HT, 17 in MT and 17 in LT), the remaining animals (n = 42) did not receive the estradiol benzoate administration (14 in HT, 13 in MT and 15 in LT). Comparisons were performed on serum progesterone concentrations after CIDR treatment. By day 7 after implant withdrawal, the proportion of cows that resume ovarian activity detected by progesterone concentration increased in all technological level farms, no statistical main effect was observed within technological level. By day 17 there was a significant main effect of technological level (P = 0.05) on the proportion of animal that resumed the estrous cycles, but neither a main effect of treatment (P = 0.97) nor an interaction between technological level and treatment (P = 0.98). Furthermore, technological level of the farm showed a tendency (P = 0.07) to affect that resume the estrous activity, and a significant effect of treatment was observed (P = 0.005) but no interaction between technological level and treatment. The impact of technology adoption among farmers in developing countries has been an issue difficult to measure and interpret. Hence, research to improve production has been centered in technology that possible is not adequate for this region. The present review aims to utilize subjects such as Genetics, Reproduction, nutrition, Management and Animal Health as examples of research endeavors illustrating the scarcely bond existing between research and adoption of technology. A final section is an attempt to illustrate the possible reasons why the transfer of technology is failing to be of any consequence at least under the conditions of developing countries.

Tricin (and tricin containing plant extracts) has been shown to exert a pronounced antiviral activity, high radical scavenging activity and is favored for its safety profile. In the present study we have analyzed the pharmacokinetics of tricin after a single intravenous and oral administration to Wistar rats of an ethanol extract of Calamagrostis Adans and Deschampsia Beauv plants (test agent) at different doses. Tricin concentrations in blood plasma and blood cells were measured at different time points. Two-compartment (for intravenous injection) and one compartment (for oral administration) models were used for the analysis of tricin pharmacokinetics. The results showed that the pharmacokinetics of tricin after intravenous injection of test agent has a pronounced biphasic character, is well described by a two-compartment pharmacokinetic model, and is characterized by non-linear dose-dependence. The pharmacokinetics of tricin administered orally is characterized by a high rate of absorption from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood and rather slow elimination, which leads to a large volume of distribution in the body and a fairly high bioavailability. The obtained results indicate the advantages of the oral route of administration over the intravenous route.

This study was carried out to determine the possible protective effect of 1-ethyl-3-[4-(2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl)]-1-nitrosourea (SLEnU), recently synthesised in our laboratory on doxorubicin and bleomycin-induced oxidative toxicity in C57 black tumour-bearing mice. Specifically, alterations in some biomarkers of oxidative stress, such as lipid peroxidation products measured as malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and activities of the antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), were studied in lung, heart and kidney homogenates isolated from C57 black tumor-bearing mice after i.p. treatment with solutions of DOX (60 mg/kg) and BLM (60 mg/kg). The same biomarkers were also measured after i.p. pretreatment of mice with SLEnU (100 mg/kg). After treatment with doxorubicin, heart and kidney homogenates of mice had significantly higher productions of lipid peroxidation compared to lung homogenates. It was accompanied by increased activity of the antioxidant defence enzyme superoxide dismutase and decreased activity of catalase. Bleomycin-induced oxidative stress was confirmed by significantly higher production of lipid peroxidation in lungs compared to heart homogenates, elevation of the anti-oxidant activity of superoxide dismutase and decreased activity of catalase enzymes. After pre-treatment of the mice with SLEnU, the levels of all studied oxidative stress biomarkers were significantly improved in comparison with those of the mice treated alone with either bleomycin, or doxorubicin. The present results and those from a previously demonstrated superoxide scavenging activities (SSA) of the nitrosourea SLEnU have enabled us to explain the protective effect of the spin-labelled nitrosourea on doxorubicin and bleomycin-induced oxidative stress by scavenging of??O2- and increased nO release.
