An unusual feature of the saline stratified lakes that were formed due to ongoing postglacial uplift on the White Sea coast is the presence of several differently colored thin layers in the zone with sharp gradients. Colored layers in five lakes at various stages of separation from the sea were investigated using optical microscopy, spectrophotometry, spectrofluorimetry, and photobiology. The upper greenish colored layer located in the aerobic strata of all lakes near the compensation depth of 1% light penetration contains green algae. In the chemocline, another layer, brightly green, red or pink, is dominated by mixotrophic flagellates. Despite the very low light intensities and the presence of H 2 S, active photosynthesis by these algae appears to be occurring, as indicated by high values of the maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry, electron transport activity, photosynthetic activity of photosystem II, the fraction of active centers, and low values of heat dissipation. In the reduced zone of the chemocline, a dense green or brown suspension of anoxygenic phototrophs(green sulfur bacteria) is located.

Role of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect in the study of close binaries

This paper is devoted to binary stars belonging to the class of eclipsing-variable *** and spectroscopic analysis of eclipses allows us to determine geometric parameters of the orbit and physical characteristics of stellar components as well as inclinations of stellar equators to the orbital plane. Estimations of inclinations can be obtained from measurement of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect, which is discussed using examples of some eccentric binaries with an anomalous apsidal effect. Our task is to find the complete spectrum of solutions of the equation of apsidal motion, depending on the inclinations of the polar axes of the components to the orbital one for these systems, based on their individual spectroscopic and photometric observational data. The matrix of solutions allows us to select those pairs of polar inclinations that provide agreement with the observational apsidal period.

Casimir Effect in Optoelectronic Devices Using Ferrofluids

Some of the modern electronic and optoelectronic devices exploit ferrofluids contained in narrow gaps between two material plates. When the width of the gap becomes below a micrometer, the boundary plates are subjected to the Casimir force arising from the zero-point and thermal fluctuations of the electromagnetic field. These forces should be taken into account in microdevices with the dimensions decreased to below a micrometer. In this paper, we review recently performed calculations of the attractive Casimir pressure in three-layer systems containing a ferrofluid. We also find the ferrofluidic system where the Casimir pressure is repulsive. This result is obtained in the framework of the fundamental Lifshitz theory of van der Waals and Casimir forces. The conclusion is made that enhanced repulsion due to the presence of a ferrofluid may prevent from sticking of closely spaced elements of a microdevice.

Th, e conceptual princoples of the jbrmation of such materials are based on the primaos thermody- namically advantageous coexistence of the special-pur- pose combinatiots of phases in the subsolidus structure of the muhicomponent subsystems of the oxide system （Mg, Ca, St, Ba）O- Al2O3 -Cr2O3. The obtained data allow for the development of high-strength refracto- ry alumochromite cements and castables based on them. Specific features of the behaiior of phase formation processes and the hydration of alumochromite cements, including the structure Jormation during the castahle service hare been studied.

Effect of WC/ni-Cr additive on changes in the composition of an atmospheric residue in the course of cracking

The paper presents the results of investigation of changes in the composition of hydrocarbons and sulfur-containing compounds of an atmospheric residue in the course of cracking in the presence of a tungsten carbide-nickel-chromium(WC/ni-Cr)catalytic additive and without *** cracking is carried out in an autoclave at 500℃for 30 *** addition of the WC/ni-Cr additive promotes the deepening of reactions of destruction not only of resins and asphaltenes,but also high molecular weight naphthene-aromatic compounds of the atmospheric *** is shown that the content of low molecular weight C9-C17 n-alkanes and C9-C10 alkylbenzenes rose sharply in the products of cracking with addition of WC/ni-Cr in comparison with those produced without the ***-and naphthene-substituted aromatic hydrocarbons of benzene,naphthalene,phenanthrene series,polyarenes,benzo-and dibenzothiophenes are identified.

Geographical Variants of the Siberian Alpine Vegetation for the ＂Circum-Boreal Vegetation Map＂

The vegetation cover in highlands is rather peculiar and complicated in its structure. The experience gained in mapping of alpine vegetation shows that the schematic small-scale maps reflect only the very common features. In boreal forest mountains of Siberia there are four systems of alpine vegetation including alpine-meadow, goltsy-tundra, island near the Pacific Ocean and tundra-steppe ones. Every system is represented by several geographical variants, characterized by regional phytogeographical peculiar features of this vegetation. The geographical variant includes a number of altitudinal belts （zones）, each of them has its floristic peculiarities and complexes of plant formations （for instance, Altai-Sayan variant composes of subalpine-alpine-subnival-nival belts）. Such geographical variants of alpine vegetation may be indicated as chorological units on a new Circum-Boreal Vegetation Map. Under discussion is the possible use of ecological-geographical approach to reflect the alpine vegetation as chorological （structural） units of the vegetation cover being exemplified by high mountains of the Siberia. This map may be more informative in terms of regional peculiarities in alpine vegetation within the boreal biome.

Comparison of fatty acid contents and composition in major lipid classes of larvae and adults of mosquitoes （Diptera： Culicidae） from a steppe region

Emerging aquatic insects, including mosquitoes, are known to transfer to terrestrial ecosystems specific essential biochemicals, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids （PUFA）. We studied fatty acid （FA） composition and contents of dominant mosquito populations （Diptera： Culicidae）, that is, Anopheles messeae, Ochlerotatus caspius, Oc. flavescens, Oc. euedes, Oc. subdiversus, Oc. cataphylla, and Aedes cinereus, inhabited a steppe wetland of a temperate climate zone to fill up the gap in their lipid knowledge. The polar lipid and triacylglycerol fractions of larvae and adults were compared. In most studied mosquito species, we first found and identified a number of short-chain PUFA, for example, prominent 14：2n-6 and 14：3n-3, which were not earlier documented in living organisms. These PUFA, although occurred in low levels in adult mosquitoes, can be potentially used as markers of mosquito biomass in terrestrial food webs. We hypothesize that these acids might be synthesized （or retroconverted） by the mosquitoes. Using FA trophic markers accumulated in triacylglycerols, trophic relations of the mosquitoes were accessed. The larval diet comprised green algae, cryptophytes, and dinoflagellates and provided the mosquitoes with essential n-3 PUFA, linolenic, and eicosapentaenoic acids. As a result, both larvae and adults of the studied mosquitoes had comparatively high content of the essential PUFA. Comparison of FA proportions in polar lipids versus storage lipids shown that during mosquito metamorphosis transfer of essential eicosapentaenoic and arachidonic acids from the reserve in storage lipids of larvae to functional polar lipids in adults occurred.

Influence of monovalent Bi^+doping on real composition,point defects,and photoluminescence in TlCdCl3 and TlCdI3 single crystals

The structural features and real compositions with point defects of Bi+-doped TlCdCl_3 and TlCdI_3 single crystals, grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger technique, are first studied using the X-ray diffraction, X-ray synchrotron radiation, and EXAFS/XAnES spectroscopy. In the structures of Bi^+-doped TlCdCl_3 and TlCdI_3 crystals, the Cd, Cl, and I sites are found to be defect-free. The vacancies in the Tl sites and interstitial Bi atoms located in the vicinity of the Tl sites are detected in the structures of both samples. In the Bi^+-doped TlCdCl_3, the presence of a small amount of Bi^+ ions in the Tl^+ sites is possible. The correlation between photoluminescence bands and point defects in the refined structures are determined. Photoluminescence spectra and decay kinetics of the Bi+-doped TlCdCl_3 and TlCdI_3 demonstrate that they are attractive materials for potential applications in photonics.

Highly Heat-Resistant Materials for Microelectronics:Hydrodynamic,Optical,and Conformational Properties of Fluorine Containing Poly(Amido-ortho-Hydroxy Amide)

The polycondensation of the mixture of diamines 5,5-methylene bis(2-aminophenol) and 4,4-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)dianiline(molar ratio 0.8:0.2) with isophthaloyl dichloride was used to synthesize poly(amido-o-hydroxy amide)(POA-F)-new heat resistant binder of the composites for microelectronics. The copolymer was fractionated, its hydrodynamic, optical, and conformational properties were researched, and molecular masses(ММ) of the fractions were defined. The polydispersity index was estimated. Based on experimental data, calculation of the size of a segment of Kuhn characterizing degree of an intramolecular orientation order and value of coefficients of the equation of Mark-Kuhn-Hauvink for viscometric and diffusion data were performed. It was demonstrated that introducing 20 mol % of the monomer with-CF3-groups does not lead to any changes in conformational properties of the macromolecules and does not change the degree of intramolecular orientational order(the Kuhn segment length). Optical characteristics of POA-F solutions are virtually similar to the corresponding values for POA prepared with the use of single amine-containing component-5,5-methylene bis(2-aminophenol). The received MM distribution for POA-F(prepolymer) provided the solubility of its films in alkaline solutions. The heat resistance(τ5 and τ10-temperatures corresponding to 5% and of 10% PBO-F mass loss of a polymer) of the powders and the films of PBO, PBO-F were determined. The electrophysical parameters-dielectric permittivity(ε) and dielectric loss tangent(tan δ) of the PBO-F films decreased down to 3.30 and 0.017, in comparison 3.40 and 0.025 for PBO respectively.
