This work aims at characterizing the evolution of the damage of two tropical hardwoods. Two species from Cameroon, the Entandrophragma Cylindricum and the Chlorora Exelcia were used for the purpose. Repeated compressive loading has been made on specimens strictly selected along with longitudinal and radial directions of each species. Each cycle was made of one phase of monotonic loading and a phase of elastic release. From data obtained, we determined the variation of Young modulus and plastic deformation during each cycle of loading, and we had deduced the damage of the material. Results show that the damage appears only after a certain threshold of the plastic deformation;that damage then grows exponentially to reach a threshold after which the failure of the material occurs. As well, we noticed that the growth of damage is accompanied by the progressive decrease of the Young modulus;this confirms the deteriorating effect of the damage on the mechanical properties. Elsewhere, the damage failure threshold is less than the theoretical value, and differs from one direction to another. Finally, we noticed that the damage failure threshold of sapelli is greater than that of iroko that allows concluding that iroko gets damaged and fails more rapidly than sapelli.

In the purpose to design novel antituberculosis (anti-TB) drugs agents against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), we have built a molecular library around 42 Halimane diterpenoids isolated from natural sources. Two Mtb enzymes drug targets (Mtb Mycothiol S-transferase and Mtb Homoserine transacetylase) have been adopted. The pharmacological potential was investigated through molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, density functional theory (gas phase and water) and AdMET analysis. Our results indicate that (2R,5R,6S)-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydro-5-((E)-5-hydroxy-3-methylpent-3-enyl)-1,1,5,6-tetramethylnaphtha-lene-2-ol (compound 20) has displays higher docking score with each of the selected drug targets. In addition, this molecule exhibits a satisfactory drug potential activity and a good chemical reactivity. Its improved kinetic stability in the Mtb Mycothiol S-transferase enzyme reflects its suitability as a novel inhibitor of Mtb growth. This molecule has displayed a good absorption potential. Our results also show that its passive passage of the intestinal permeability barrier is more effective than that of first-line treatments (ethambutol, isoniazid). In the same way, this anti-TB druglikeness has shown to be able to cross the blood brain barrier.

In this work, a numerical study of heat transfers in a metallic pressure cooker isolated with kapok wool was carried out. This equipment works like a thermos, allowing finishing cooking meals only thanks to the heat stored at the beginning of cooking, which generates energy savings. Cooked meals are also kept hot for long hours. In our previous work, we have highlighted the performances of the pressure cooker when making common dishes in Burkina Faso. Also, the parameters (thickness and density) of the insulating matrix allowing having such performances as well as the influence of the climatic conditions on the pressure cooker operation were analyzed in detail in this present work. The numerical methodology is based on the nodal method and the transfer equations obtained by making an energy balance on each node have been discretized using an implicit scheme with finite differences and resolved by the Gauss algorithm. Numerical results validated experimentally show that the thickness of the kapok wool as well as its density play an important role in the pressure cooker operation. In addition, equipment performances are very little influenced by the weather conditions of the city of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

This work is devoted to an experimental study of metallic pressure cooker insulated with kapok wool, a vegetal biodegradable fiber. Experiments conducted on the cooling of hot water in the equipment revealed very low heat losses and a time constant of 60 hours on average. As a result, the equipment makes it possible to finish cooking meals only thanks to the heat stored at the beginning of cooking and keeps cooked dishes warm for long hours. The thermal phase shift of the pressure cooker is around 7?h. Cooking tests conducted on some local dishes revealed about 70% butane gas savings for cooking cowpea and white rice, 38% for cooking fatty rice, 75% for pasta and couscous, and 30% for cooking potato stew. These results show that this technology can contribute to minimizing?energy consumption in the restaurant sector.

This paper presents a numerical modelling of the dynamic behaviour of the Machine-Tool-Part system (MOP) in milling. The numerical study of such complex structure requires the use of sophisticated method like finite elements one. Simulation is employed to predict cutting forces and dynamic response of Machine-Tool-Part system (MOP) during end-milling operation. Finally, spectral analysis is presented to see the influence of feed direction in the vibration.

The prediction of the mechanical properties of wood and the evolution of its damage has been essential for its application in many fields such as bridges and houses construction, racks of trucks and so on. In more valorization of biomaterials following the example material wood arouses for a few years a?private interest on behalf of the populations. The experimental characterization?makes it possible to consider the mechanical properties local of Pericopsis elata (Assamela) according to various parameters (the wood turpentine, the orientation of wood fibers, water the content, the type of test …). From the?results, we evaluate the mechanical characteristics of Pericopsis elata (Assamela)?according to the three directions of Orthotropy. Then from the tests of load-discharge we measured the evolution of the damage using the variation of the Young modulus, which enabled us to note the reduction in the modulus of elasticity because of the damage following the three directions. Finally we noted a progressive and irreversible degradation of mechanical properties induced by the development of the microscopic cracks within material.

Bone dysmorphia-Induced Blindness Following a Secondary Hyperparathyroidism: A Case Report

Introduction: Conjunctival-corneal or choroidal calcifications are frequent in SHPT, blindness is however exceptional. We report a case of blindness secondary to compressive ischemic optic neuropathy. Case Report: Mr. B.E.K., 49 years old, has a chronic renal failure secondary to unlabeled glomerular nephropathy for 17 years. He has been on chronic hemodialysis for 12 years and has had SHPT for nine years. He secondarily developed disabling segmental osteoarticular deformities associated with kyphoscoliosis, “drumstick” fingers and facial dysmorphism. Five months before admission he developed eye pain and reduced visual acuity progressing within one month to blindness. Biology noted: serum creatinine at 726 umol/l (60 - 120 umol/L), azotemia at 14.3 mmol/l (2.5 - 7.5 mmol/L), serum calcium at 2.25 (2.25 - 2.55 mmol/L), phosphatemia at 1.13 (0.8 - 1.35 mmol/L), alkaline phosphatases at 2196 (5 - 270 IU/L) and parathyroid hormone level at 2257 (10 - 60 pg/mL). Retinal angiography revealed lesions suggestive of ischemic neuropathy. The orbit CT scan with 3d coronal reconstruction revealed narrowing of the caliber of the optical channels with dystrophic thickening of the skull base and cranial vault. Cranioencephalic and orbital MRI revealed diffuse brown tumors and pre-chiasmatic optic atrophy. discussion: The most frequent ocular complications of SHPT are conjunctival-corneal or sclero-choroidal calcifications, asymptomatic, associated with hypercalcemia. Compressive manifestations are rarer, represented mainly by an amputation of the visual field, diplopia, ptosis or blindness, as described in our patient. The main cause is osteodystrophy and brown tumors of the skull base (1% - 2%). Conclusion: This case report underlines the importance of early detection of SHPT, in order to avoid its major complications, such as blindness, especially since current preventive and curative measures have proven their

Systemic Scleroderma at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) of Cocody (Abidjan—Cote d’Ivoire): A 19 Cases Report

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic features of systemic scleroderma at Cocody UTH. Methodology: We conducted a retrospective and descriptive study over a period of 10 years (September 15, 2008 to April 15, 2019) on the files of patients hospitalized for systemic scleroderma in the rheumatology unit of the UTH of Cocody. We used the classification criteria of the American Society of Rheumatology (1980) to retain the diagnosis. Results: Nineteen patients’ files had been collected, representing a hospital frequency of 0.32%. The average age was 37.25 ± 13.82 years old. There were 15 women and 4 men. The average consultation time was 26.44 months. The mode of revelation of the disease was mostly cutaneous and articular. All patients had cutaneous sclerosis (average Rodnan score = 27.63/11.61 (min = 4, max = 49).) Scleroderma was diffuse in 70.59% of cases;a Raynaud’s phenomenon was seen in 47.37%. The main clinical manifestations were: cutaneous (100%), articular (89.47%), pulmonary (57.89%) and digestive (63.16%). No renal damage was found. Pulmonary fibrosis (5 cases), pulmonary arterial hypertension (3 cases) and pericardial effusion (2 cases) were sometimes founded in explorations. The positivity of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) was seen in 72% of patients and anti scl70 antibodies in 42.85%. The treatment included corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, respectively used in 84.2% and 63.16% of cases. The outcome was marked by 5 cases of death attributed to respiratory distress. Conclusion: Systemic scleroderma seems to be a very rare condition in Ivorian rheumatology milieu. The main systemic manifestations were digestive and pulmonary. Treatment was very often symptomatic sometimes associated with d-penicillamine.

One of the most devastating diseases of rice worldwide is bacterial blight (BLB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae (Xoo). In Benin, Xoo was first described in 2013 on wild rice Oryzae longistaminata. So far, no study has been done on Beninese Xoo strains. We do not know whether the pathogen has already passed into the rice varieties grown, or if they are exposed to other bacteria. Whereas the use of resistant varieties, carrying resistance genes, is the only highly effective and environmentally friendly way to control this disease, no information is available on these Xoo resistance genes in rice varieties grown in Benin apart from the one we recently. This study aims to identify Beninese Xoo strains, causing BLB and screen rice varieties grown in Benin for the main resistance genes. diseased rice leaves showing typical symptoms of fire blight collected from different rice fields in the three phytogeographic areas of Benin were analyzed by PCR for Xoo-specific sequence identification. Furthermore, seventy-five collected rice accessions were screened to identify xa5, Xa7, xa13, and Xa21 resistance genes to Xoo. The results reveal that Xanthomonas oryzae was identified in two fields in Banikouara and one in Malanville. On the other hand, Sphingomonas sp. has been identified in several other rice fields in Benin. Forty-seven of seventy-five rice accessions examined (62.66%) carried Xoo resistance genes with 3 (4%) and 40 (53.33%) of xa5 and Xa21 respectively. None of the accessions had either Xa7 or xa13 resistance genes. Three accessions possess both xa5 and Xa21 genes. Isogenic lines IRBB60 and IRBB21, supposed to be a positive control, presented a Xoo sensitivity allele. These results indicate that Xoo has moved from the wild rice variety to the cultivated variety in northern Benin and varietal improvement programs must be implemented with varieties having several resistance genes for the efficient response against a possible BLB pandemic in Benin.

目的总结4例顽固性室性心动过速患者在静脉-动脉体外肺膜氧合(VA-ECMO)辅助下行心包穿刺心外膜射频消融术的术中护理经验。方法4例患者在心血管内科、ICU、麻醉科、介入手术室、护理等多学科团队协作下,术前制定周密的手术方案、应急预案和具体分工,由多学科团队联合提供手术全程监护,术中护理重点包括:注重术中的低体温、出血、溶血及灌注量变化、管道的管理、并发症的预防等问题,严密观察病情和配合手术,加强生命体征监测和出凝血监测,进行管道和穿刺口安全管理。结果4例患者手术成功,术中未发生严重并发症,住院时间为(12.50±2.06)d。1例在术后当天出现心源性休克,及时以CRRT配合治疗后好转出院。结论VA-ECMO能在术中提供血流动力学支持,提高手术成功率。术中护士与团队紧密配合,加强术中体温、出血/溶血、灌注量的监护,实施并发症的预见护理,可为手术提供安全保障。
