dear Editor,The development of reversible photochromic materials combining efficient writing/erasing properties, low-cost and environmentally friendly compositions is a breakthrough challenge and a subject of many research works in the last decades. In this perspective, transparent oxide glasses are promising since their production is ensured by a simple melt-quenching technique and a proper laser writing setup is able to give rise to a localized photochromic effect, opening opportunities for 3d optical data storage.

Structural colors have drawn wide attention for their potential as a future printing technology for various applications,ranging from biomimetic tissues to adaptive camouflage ***,an efficient approach to realize robust colors with a scalable fabrication technique is still lacking,hampering the realization of practical applications with this ***,we develop a new approach based on large-scale network metamaterials that combine dealloyed subwavelength structures at the nanoscale with lossless,ultra-thin dielectric *** using theory and experiments,we show how subwavelength dielectric coatings control a mechanism of resonant light coupling with epsilon-near-zero regions generated in the metallic network,generating the formation of saturated structural colors that cover a wide portion of the *** measurements support the efficient observation of these colors,even at angles of 70°.The network-like architecture of these nanomaterials allows for high mechanical resistance,which is quantified in a series of nano-scratch *** such remarkable properties,these metastructures represent a robust design technology for real-world,large-scale commercial applications.

We here report the de novo transcriptome assembly and functional annotation of Eusirus *** clade g3,providing the first database of expressed sequences from this giant Antarctic ***-sequencing,carried out on the whole body of a single juvenile individual likely undergoing molting,revealed the dominant expression of *** mRNAs encoding these oxygen-binding proteins cumulatively accounted for about 40%of the total transcriptional effort,highlighting the key biological importance of high hemocyanin production in this Antarctic amphipod *** speculate that this observation may mirror a strategy previously described in Antarctic cephalopods,which compensates for the decreased ability to release oxygen to peripheral tissues at sub-zero temperatures by massively increasing total blood hemocyanin content compared with temperate *** preliminary results will undoubtedly require confirmation through proteomic and biochemical analyses aimed at characterizing the oxygen-binding properties of *** clade g3 hemocyanins and at investigating whether other Antarctic arthropod species exploit similar adaptations to cope with the challenges posed by the extreme conditions of the polar environment.

TiO2‐mediated photocatalysis is widely used in a variety of applications and products in the envi‐ronmental and energy fields, including photoelectrochemical conversion, self‐cleaning surfaces, and especially water purification systems. The dimensionality of the structure of a TiO2 material can affect its properties, functions, and more specifically, its photocatalytic performance. In this work, the photocatalytic inactivation of Gram‐negative Escherichia coli using three photocatalysts, differ‐ing in their structure and other characteristics, was studied in a batch reactor under UVA light. The aim was to establish the disinfection efficiency of solid TiO2 compared with that of suspended cata‐lysts, widely considered as reference cases for photocatalytic water disinfection. The bacterial inac‐tivation profiles obtained showed that: (1) the photoinactivation was exclusively related to the quantity of photons retained per unit of treated volume, irrespective of the characteristics of the photocatalyst and the emitted light flux densities;(2) across the whole UV light range studied, each of the photocatalytic solids was able to achieve more than 2 log bacterial inactivation with less than 2 h UV irradiation;(3) none of the used catalysts achieved a total bacterial disinfection during the treatment time. For each of the catalysts the quantum yield has been assessed in terms of disinfec‐tion efficiency, the 2d material showed almost the same performance as those of suspended cata‐lysts. This catalyst is promising for supported photocatalysis applications.

BACKGROUNd Liver cancer is the fifth most common cancer and the second cause of cancerrelated deaths *** chemoembolization(TACE)is the best treatment of intermediate hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).doxorubicin is the most commonly used drug despite a low level of *** To compare the objective response rate of idarubicin-based TACE(Ida-TACE)against doxorubicin-based TACE(dox-TACE)in intermediate stage *** Between January 2012 and december 2014,all patients treated with TACE at our academic hospital were *** criteria were patients with Child-Pugh score A or B,a performance status below or equal to 1,and no prior *** lipiodol TACE or drug-eluting beads TACE could be performed with 10 mg of idarubicin or 50 mg of *** patient treated with idarubicin was matched with two doxorubicin-treated *** TACE response was assessed by independent radiologists according to the mRECIST *** Sixty patients were treated with doxorubicin and thirty with *** were 93%and 87%of cirrhotic patients and 87%and 70%of Child-Pugh A in the doxorubicin and idarubicin groups,*** median number of HCC per patient was two in both groups with 31%and 26%of single nodules in doxorubicin and idarubicin groups,*** response rate after first TACE was 76.7%and 73.3%(P=0.797)with 41.7%and 40.0%complete response in doxorubicin and idarubicin groups,***-free survival was 7.7 mo in both groups,and liver transplant-free survival was 24.9 mo and 21.9 mo in doxorubicin and idarubicin groups,*** profiles were similar in both groups,with grade 3-4 adverse events in 35%of dox-TACE and 43%of *** Ida-TACE and dox-TACE showed comparable results in terms of efficacy and ***-TACE may represent an interesting alternative to dox-TACE in the management of patients with intermediate stage HCC.

This work concerns an experimental and numerical study of energy losses in a typical oven usually used in the agro-food craft sector in Burkina Faso. The experimental results were obtained by infrared thermography of the oven and by monitoring the evolution of the wall temperatures using thermocouples connected to a data acquisition system. These results indicate that the energy losses are mainly through the walls of the oven. The numerical study based on the energy balance and corroborated by the experimental study made it possible to quantify these losses of energy which represents almost half of the fuel used. These results will allow us to work on a new, more efficient oven model for the grilling sector in Burkina Faso.
