Updates on larynx cancer epidemiology

Objective: Laryngeal cancer is an important oncologic entity, whose prognosis depends on establishing appropriate preventive and diagnostic measures, especially in populations at higher ***: Epidemiologic information including worldwide incidence, prevalence, burden of health loss(disability-adjusted life year;DALYs) and mortality of larynx cancer was obtained from the Global Health Data Exchange(GHDx) ***: The current incidence, prevalence and mortality of laryngeal cancer are estimated at 2.76 cases/year per 100,000 inhabitants, 14.33 cases/year per 100,000 inhabitants and 1.66 deaths/year per 100,000 inhabitants,respectively, averaging 3.28 million DALYs each year. Incidence and prevalence have increased by 12% and 24%,respectively during the past 3 decades, whilst mortality has declined by around 5%. The epidemiologic burden of this malignancy is approximately 5-fold higher in males and increases in parallel with ageing, peaking after 65 years of age. Both incidence and mortality rates are higher in Europe and lower in Africa, but the ratio between deaths and incidence is the highest in Africa. Incidence has gradually declined in Europe during the past 3 decades, whilst it has increased in South-East Asia and Western Pacific. Cigarette smoking and alcohol abuse contribute for about 90% of overall worldwide mortality for laryngeal ***: Laryngeal cancer still poses a high clinical and societal burden, with an escalating temporal trend not expected to reverse soon.

Treatment of discontinuities inside Earth models:Effects on computed coseismic deformations

In this paper,we study how coseismic deformations calculated in 1066 Earth models are affected by how the models treat Earth *** the results of applying models 1066A(continuous)and 1066B(discontinuous),we find that the difference in Love numbers of strike-slip and horizontal tensile sources are bigger than dip-slip and vertical tensile *** collectively,discontinuities have major effects on Green’s functions of four independent *** the near-field coseismic deformations of the 2013 Okhotsk earthquake(Mw 8.3),the overall differences between theoretical calculations in vertical displacement,geoid,and gravity changes caused by discontinuities are 10.52 percent,9.07 percent and 6.19 percent,with RMS errors of 0.624 mm,0.029 mm,and 0.063μGal,*** difference in far-field displacements is small,compared with GPS data,and we can neglect this *** the shallow earthquake,2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake(Mw 9.0),the differences in near-field displacements are 0.030 m(N-S),0.093 m(E-W),and 0.025 m(up-down)in our study area with the ARIA slip model,which gives results closer to GPS data than those from the USGS *** difference in vertical displacements and gravity changes on the Earth’s surface caused by discontinuities are larger than 10 *** difference in the theoretical gravity changes at spatially fixed points truncated to degrees 60,as required by GRACE data,is 0.0016μGal and the discrepancy is 11 percent,with the theoretical spatial gravity changes from 1066B closer to observations than from *** results show that an Earth model with discontinuities in the medium has a large effect on the calculated coseismic deformations.

Cloud-based robotics systems leverage a wide range of Information Technologies(IT)to offer tangible benefits like cost reduction,powerful computational capabilities,data offloading,***,the centralized nature of cloud computing is not well-suited for a multitude of Operational Technologies(OT)nowadays used in robotics systems that require strict real-time guarantees and *** computing and fog computing are complementary approaches that aim at mitigating some of these challenges by providing computing capabilities closer to the *** goal of this work is hence threefold:i)to analyze the current edge computing and fog computing landscape in the context of robotics systems,ii)to experimentally evaluate an end-to-end robotics system based on solutions proposed in the literature,and iii)to experimentally identify current benefits and open challenges of edge computing and fog *** show that,in the case of an exemplary delivery application comprising two mobile robots,the robot coordination and range can be improved by consuming real-time radio information available at the ***,our evaluation highlights that the existing software,wireless and virtualization technologies still require substantial evolution to fully support edge-based robotics systems.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a late-onset neurodegenerative disease selectively affecting motor neurons, leading to pro-gressive paralysis. Although most cases are sporadic,-10% are familial. Similar proteins are found in aggregates in sporadicand familial ALS, and over the last decade, research has been focused on the underlying nature of this common ***, TDP-43 inclusions are found in almost all ALS patients, while Fus inclusions have been reported in some familial ALSpatients. Both TDP-43 and FUS possess ‘low-complexity domains' (LCDs) and are considered as ‘intrinsically disordered proteins',which form liquid droplets in vitro due to the weak interactions caused by the LCDs. Dysfunctional ‘liquid-lquid phase separa-tion'(LLPS) emerged as a new mechanism linking AlS-related proteins to pathogenesis. Here, we review the current state ofknowledge on ALS-related gene products associated with a proteinopathy and discuss their status as lLPS proteins. n addition,we highlight the therapeutic potential of targeting LLPS for treating ALS.

The efficiency of photo-electrocatalytic（PECa） devices for the production of solar fuels depends on several limiting factors such as light harvesting, charge recombination and mass transport diffusion. We analyse here how they influence the performances in PECa cells having a photo-anode based on Au-modified TiOnanotube（TNT） arrays, with the aim of developing design criteria to optimize the photo-anode and the PECa cell configuration for water photo-electrolysis（splitting） and ethanol photo-reforming *** TNT samples were prepared by controlled anodic oxidation of Ti foils and then decorated with gold nanoparticles using different techniques to enhance the visible light response through heterojunction and plasmonic effects. The activity tests were made in a gas-phase reactor, as well as in a PECa cell without applied bias. Results were analysed in terms of photo-generated current, Hproduction rate and photoconversion efficiency. Particularly, a solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of 0.83% and a Faradaic efficiency of 91%were obtained without adding sacrificial reagents.

Enhanced performance in the direct electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia from N2 and H2O by an in-situ electrochemical activation of CNT-supported iron oxide nanoparticles

The direct electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia from N2 and H2O by using renewable energy sources and ambient pressure/temperature operations is a breakthrough technology,which can reduce by over 90%the greenhouse gas emissions of this chemical and energy storage *** report here an in-situ electrochemical activation method to prepare Fe2O3-CNT(iron oxide on carbon nanotubes)electrocatalysts for the direct ammonia synthesis from N2 and *** in-situ electrochemical activation leads to a large increase of the ammonia formation rate and Faradaic efficiency which reach the surprising high values of 41.6μg mgcat^−1 h^−1 and 17%,respectively,for an in-situ activation of 3 h,among the highest values reported so far for non-precious metal catalysts that use a continuous-flow polymer-electrolytemembrane cell and gas-phase operations for the ammonia synthesis *** electrocatalyst was stable at least 12 h at the working *** by switching N2 to Ar evidence that ammonia was formed from the gas-phase *** analysis of the changes of reactivity and of the electrocatalyst characteristics as a function of the time of activation indicates a linear relationship between the ammonia formation rate and a specific XPS(X-ray-photoelectron spectroscopy)oxygen signal related to O2−in iron-oxide *** results together with characterization data by TEM and XRD suggest that the iron species active in the direct and selective synthesis of ammonia is a maghemite-type iron oxide,and this transformation from the initial hematite is responsible for the in-situ enhancement of 3-4 times of the TOF(turnover frequency)and NH3 Faradaic *** transformation is likely related to the stabilization of the maghemite species at CNT defect sites,although for longer times of preactivation a sintering occurs with a loss of performances.

Dietary supplementation of Rosmarinus officinalis *** in sheep affects the abundance of rumen methanogens and other microbial populations

Background： Rumen microbiome has a great influence on ruminant health and productivity. Different plant extracts have been tested for their ability to modulate the rumen microbiome to improve feed digestion and fermentation. Among the evaluated plant extracts, essential oils, tannins, and saponins appeared to have positive effects on rumen protein metabolism, volatile fatty acids production, and methane and ammonia production. Methods： The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of rosemary （Rosmarinus officinalis L.） leaves and essential oils on rumen microbial populations. Four ruminally cannulated sheep were used in a 4x4 Latin square design fed （21 d/period）： 1） a control diet composed of alfalfa hay and concentrate pellet （CTR）, 2） CTR supplemented with 7 g/d/sheep of rosemary essential oil adsorbed on an inert support （EO）, 3） CTR with 10 g/d/sheep of dried and ground rosemary leaves （RL）, and 4） CTR with 10 g/d of dried and ground rosemary leaves pelleted into concentrate （RL pellet）. Abundance of total bacteria, archaea, protozoa, and some select bacterial species or groups was quantified using qPCR, while the community of bacteria and archaea was profiled using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. Results： No difference in abundance was noted for total bacteria, protozoa, or Rurninococcus flavefaciens between the control and the treatments, but the rosemary leaves, either in loose form or in pellet, decreased the abundance of archaea and the genus Prevotello （P 〈 0.001）. The rosemary leaves in loose form also decreased （P 〈 0.001） the abundance of Ruminococcus albus and Clostridium aminophilum, while the EO increased （P 〈 0.001） the abundance of Fibrobocter sucdnogenes. The community of bacteria and archaea was not affected by any of the supplements.
