Caffeine is present in products marketed for weight loss, with the purpose of increasing thermogenesis and lipid metabolism. The dosage declared by the product manufacturer, or even its presence, is not always correctly described on the label. This work aimed to investigate the undeclared synthetic caffeine in weight loss formulations by a high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection(HPLC-DAD) method. From one hundred products purchased through Brazilian e-commerce, seventeen contained caffeine, either naturally or synthetically added to formulation. The caffeine-containing samples were confirmed by an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(UHPLC-mS/mS) method, and adulteration was clearly proven in five products. The content highest caffeine contained 448.8 mg per dose. Other irregularities were also found; nevertheless, the most serious was the addition of synthetic drugs without asking the consumers. Additional drugs expose the consumer to more possible side-effects as well as deleterious drug interactions. Intentional adulteration with any unlabeled substance is typically motivated by a desire to increase or alter the claimed effect of the marketed product to gain a commercial advantage.

This review focuses on individual effects of major global change factors, such as elevated CO2, O3, UV light and temperature, on plant secondary chemistry. These secondary metabolites are well-known for their role in plant defense against insect herbivory. Global change effects on secondary chemicals appear to be plant species-specifc and dependent on the chemical type. Even though plant chemical responses induced by these factors are highly variable, there seems to be some specificity in the response to different environmental stressors. For example, even though the production of phenolic compounds is enhanced by both elevated CO2 and UV light levels, the latter appears to primarily increase the concentrations of flavonoids. Likewise, specific phenolic metabolites seem to be induced by O3 but not by other factors, and an increase in volatile organic compounds has been particularly detected under elevated temperature. more information is needed regarding how global change factors influence inducibility of plant chemical defenses as well as how their indirect and direct effects impact insect performance and behavior, herbivory rates and pathogen attack. This knowledge is crucial to better understand how plants and their associated natural enemies will be affected in future changing environments.

In this paper we give a survey about the Roper-Suffridge extension operator and the developments in the theory of univalent mappings in several variables to which it has led. We begin with the basic geometric properties (most of which now have a number of different proofs)and discuss relations with the theory of Loewner chains and generalizations and modifications of the operator, some of which are very recent.

The combined effects of pH and temperature on red pigment production and fungal morphology were evaluated in a submerged culture of Penicillium purpurogenum GH2, using Czapek-Dox media with D-xylose as a carbon source. An experimental design with a factorial fix was used: three pH values (5, 7, and 9) and two temperature levels (24 and 34 °C) were evaluated. The highest production of red pigment (2.46 g/L) was reached with a pH value of 5 and a temperature of 24 °C. Biomass and red pigment production were not directly associated. This study demon- strates that P. purpurogenum GH2 produces a pigment of potential interest to the food industry. It also shows the feasibility of producing and obtaining natural water-soluble pigments for potential use in food industries. A strong combined effect (pmperature was associated with maximal red pigment production (2.46 g/L).

In this paper we consider a proper subclass nA of the full class of spirallike mappings on the Euclidean unit ball Bn in Cn with respect to a given linear operator A. We use the method of subordination chains to obtain an upper growth result for nA , and we obtain various examples of mappings in the same class of normalized biholomorphic mappings on the unit ball Bn in Cn . We also prove that the class nA is compact, while the full class of spirallike mappings with respect to a linear operator need not be compact in dimension n≥2, even when the operator is diagonal. This is one of the motivations for considering the class nA . Finally we prove that if f is a quasiregular strongly spirallike mapping on Bn such that ||[Df(z)]-1 Af(z)|| is uniformly bounded on Bn , then f extends to a homeomorphism of R2n onto itself. In addition, if A + A* = 2aI n for some a >0, this extension is also quasiconformal on R2n .

Yam hairiness is a complex concept, which generally cannot be completely defined by a single figure. Hairiness can be considered as the fiber ends and loops standing out from the main compact yarn body. Uster hairiness system characterizes the hairiness by H value, i.e. the mean value of the total length of all hairs within one centimeter of yarn. The raw data HI are in fact realization of spatial process （hairiness spatial process -- HSP） and can be used for more complex evaluation of hairiness characteristics in the space and frequency domain. The main aim of this contribution is description of some tools for spatial characterization of yarn hairiness. The simple methods for complex characterization of lISP statistical behavior （stationarity, independence, linearity etc. ） are presented. The techniques based on the embedding dimension and correlation integral or long-range dependences evaluation are discussed. The selected methods are core of HYARN program in mATLAB. Application of this program for deeper characterization of artificial data and cotton type yam are shown.

The studied hypothesis is that the herbicide glyphosate(GLY)can affect the oxidative balance in the hydrophobic intracellular medium in non-target Chlorella vulgaris *** GLY and RoundUp(RUP)supplementation,affected the growth profile.A significant 42%decrease in the cellular biomass in stationary(St)phase was observed in cultures supplemented with either 5μm of GLY or RUP,as compared to control *** treatment with 0.3μm of GLY generated non-significant effects on the oxidation rate of 2’,7’dichlorofluorescein diacetate(DCFH-DA),neither in exponential(Exp)nor in St phase of development,as compared to control ***,the treatment with either 5μm GLY or 0.3 and 5μm RUP lead to a significant decrease in the DCFH-DA oxidation rate,as compared to control *** lipid radical(LR●)generation rate,detected by Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy(EPR),was significantly increased in the presence of RUP,in Lag and Exp phase of *** non-enzymatic antioxidants,α-Tocopherol(α-T)andβ-Carotene(β-C),are aimed to protect membranes against the damage produced by the radical *** content ofβ-C was not significantly affected,as compared to control cultures,by any of the treatments,in both growth phases of cellular *** content ofα-T was significantly decreased by the supplementation with either 0.3 or 5μm of RUP or 5μm *** LR●/α-T ratio,used as indicator of the oxidative balance in the hydrophobic cellular media,was significantly different between samples obtained from control and RUP-exposed microalgae in both,Exp and St phase of development,with either 0.3 or 5μm *** data presented here showed evidence that suggested that oxidative balance in the hydrophobic environment was affected by either GLY or RUP.

Given a vertex v of a graph G the second order degree of v denoted as d2（v） is defined as the number of vertices at distance 2 from v. In this paper we address the following question： What axe the sufficient conditions for a graph to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）, where d（v） denotes the degree of v？ Among other results, every graph of minimum degree exactly 2, except four graphs, is shown to have a vertex of second order degree as large as its own degree. moreover, every K4^--free graph or every maximal planar graph is shown to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）. Other sufficient conditions on graphs for guaranteeing this property axe also proved.

The present study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of bioactive compounds from chloroform extract of the leaves of Hylocereus undatus in the formation of advanced glycation end products(AGEs) in vitro. Bioactivity-guided fractionation of chloroform extract from Hylocereus undatus afforded two novel 12-ursen-type triterpenes, 3β, 16α, 23-trihydroxy-urs-12-en-28-oic acid(1) and 3β, 6β, 19α, 22α-tetrahydroxy-urs-12-en-28-oic acid(2), as well as four known triterpenes 2α, 3β, 23-tetrahydroxy-urs-11-en-28-oic acid(3), 3β-acetoxy-28-hydroxyolean-12-ene(4), 3β, 16α-dihidroxyolean-12-ene(5) and 3β-acetoxy-olean-12-ene(6). Our results revealed that triterpenes 1–3 were able to inhibit the formation of AGEs in all tested assays. The data indicated that the triterpenes had inhibitory activity at the múltiple stages of glycation and that there might be a high potential for decreasing protein oxidation and protein glycation that can enhance glycative stress in diabetic complications.
