germanene nanostrips(geNSs)have garnered significant attention in modern semiconductor technology due to their exceptional physical characteristics,positioning them as promising candidates for a wide range of *** exhibit a two-dimensional(buckled)honeycomb-like lattice,which is similar to germanene but with controllable *** modeling of geNSs is essential for developing appropriate synthesis methods as it enables understanding and controlling the growth process of these ***,one can adjust the strip width,which in turn can tune the bandgap and plasmonic response of the material to meet specific device *** this study,the objective is to investigate the electronic behav-ior and THz plasmon features of geNSs(≥100 nm wide).A semi-analytical model based on the charge-carrier velocity of free-standing germanene is utilized for this *** charge-carrier velocity of freestanding germanene is determined through the gW approximation(V_(F)=0.702×10^(6)m·s^(−1)).Within the width range of 100 to 500 nm,geNSs exhibit narrow bandgaps,typi-cally measuring only a few ***,upon analysis,it was found that the bandgaps of the investigated geNSs ranged between 29 and 6 *** well,these nanostrips exhibit√q-like plasmon dispersions,with their connected plasmonic fre-quency(≤30 THz)capable of being manipulated by varying parameters such as strip width,excitation plasmon angle,and sam-ple *** manipulations can lead to frequency variations,either increasing or decreasing,as well as shifts towards larger momentum *** outcomes of our study serve as a foundational motivation for future experiments,and further con-firmation is needed to validate the reported results.

Background:Although guidelines recommend systemic therapy even in patients with limited extrahepatic metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),a few recent studies suggested a potential benefit for resection of extrahepatic ***,the benefit of adrenal resection(AR)for adrenal-only metastases(AOM)from HCC was not proved *** is the first study to compare long-term outcomes of AR to those of sorafenib in patients with AOM from ***:The patients with adrenal metastases(AM)from HCC were identified from the electronic records of the institution between January 2002 and December *** who presented AM and other sites of extrahepatic disease were ***,the patients with AOM who received other therapies than AR or sorafenib were ***:A total of 34 patients with AM from HCC were *** of these,22 patients had AOM,6 receiving other treatment than AR or ***,8 patients with AOM underwent AR(AR group),while 8 patients were treated with sorafenib(SOR group).The baseline characteristics of the two groups were not significantly different in terms of age,sex,number and size of the primary tumor,timing of AM diagnosis,Child-Pugh and ECOg *** a median follow-up of 15.5 months,in the AR group,the 1-,3-,and 5-year overall survival rates(85.7%,42.9%,and 0%,respectively)were significantly higher than those achieved in the SOR group(62.5%,0%and 0%at 1-,3-and 5-year,respectively)(P=0.009).The median progression-free survival after AR(14 months)was significantly longer than that after sorafenib therapy(6 months,P=0.002).Conclusions:In patients with AOM from HCC,AR was associated with significantly higher overall and progression-free survival rates than systemic therapy with *** results could represent a starting-point for future phase II/III clinical trials.

Recent developments allowed establishing virtual-reality (VR) setups to study multiple aspects of visual learning in honey bees under controlled experimental conditions. Here, we adopted a VR environment to investigate the visual learning in the buff-tailed bumble bee Bombus terrestris. Based on responses to appetitive and aversive reinforcements used for conditioning, we show that bumble bees had the proper appetitive motivation to engage in the VR experiments and that they learned efficiently elemental color discriminations. In doing so, they reduced the latency to make a choice, increased the proportion of direct paths toward the virtual stimuli and walked faster toward them. Performance in a short-term retention test showed that bumble bees chose and fixated longer on the correct stimulus in the absence of reinforcement. Body size and weight, although variable across individuals, did not affect cognitive performances and had a mild impact on motor performances. Overall, we show that bumble bees are suitable experimental subjects for experiments on visual learning under VR conditions, which opens important perspectives for invasive studies on the neural and molecular bases of such learning given the robustness of these insects and the accessibility of their brain.

Objective To examine the relationship between Tpeak- Tend interval （Tpe） and Tpe/QT ratio with occurrence of ventricular premature beats （VPBs） and left ventricular remodeling in hypertension. Methods A total of 52 patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension were included, undergoing echocardiography and 24-hours Holter monitoring. Ventricular remodeling was assessed by left ventricular mass index （LVMI） using the Devereux formula and diastolic fimction by transmitral E and A wave velocities and E/A ratio. Tpe was measured in the precordial leads. The end of the T wave was set by the method of the tangent to the steepest descending slope of the T wave. Results Tpe and Tpe/QT in leads V2 （r = 0.33, P = 0.01; r = 0.27, P = 0.04 respectively） and V3 （r = 0.40, P = 0.002; r = 0.40, P = 0.003, respectively） correlated significantly with LVMI. A significant inverse relationship was observed between E/A ratio and QT （r = -0.33, P = 0.01）, Tpe in V3 （r = -0.39, P = 0.003） and Tpe/QT in V3 （r = -0.31, P = 0.02）. Tpe in V3, V5, mean Tpe and maximum Tpe with cut-offvalues of 60 ms, 59 ms, 62 ms and 71 ms, respectively, associated with the occurrence of ventricular premature beats. Conclusions The repolarization parameters Tpe interval and Tpe/QT ratio correlate with LVMI and indices of left ventricular diastolic function and show better predictive values than traditional parameters such as QT interval and QT dispersion. Lead V3 is the best lead for measuring Tpe and Tpe/QT. These ECg indices can therefore be used in clinical practice to monitor LV remodeling and predict occurrence of VPBs.
