Solution chemistry back‐contact FTO/hematite interface engineering for efficient photocatalytic water oxidation

This work describes a simple yet powerful scalable solution chemistry strategy to create back‐contact rich interfaces between substrates such as commercial transparent conducting fluorine‐doped tin oxide coated glass(FTO)and photoactive thin films such as hematite for low‐cost water oxidation ***‐resolution electron microscopy(SEM,TEM,STEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),elemental chemical mapping(EELS,EDS)and photoelectrochemical(PEC)investigations reveal that the mechanical stress,lattice mismatch,electron energy barrier,and voids between FTO and hematite at the back‐contact interface as well as short‐circuit and detrimental reaction between FTO and the electrolyte can be alleviated by engineering the chemical composition of the precursor solutions,thus increasing the overall efficiency of these low‐cost photoanodes for water oxidation reaction for a clean and sustainable generation of hydrogen from PEC water‐*** findings are of significant importance to improve the charge collection efficiency by minimizing electron‐hole recombination observed at back‐contact interfaces and grain boundaries in mesoporous electrodes,thus improving the overall efficiency and scalability of low‐cost PEC water splitting devices.

Pancreatic cancer(PC)is characterized by its extremely aggressive nature and ranks 14th in the number of new cancer cases ***,due to its complexity,it ranks 7th in the list of the most lethal cancers *** pathogenesis of PC involves several complex processes,including familial genetic factors associated with risk factors such as obesity,diabetes mellitus,chronic pancreatitis,and *** in genes such as KRAS,TP53,and SMAD4 are linked to the appearance of malignant cells that generate pancreatic lesions and,consequently,*** this context,some therapies are used for PC,one of which is immunotherapy,which is extremely promising in various other types of cancer but has shown little response in the treatment of PC due to various resistance mechanisms that contribute to a drop in immunotherapy *** is therefore clear that the tumor microenvironment(TME)has a huge impact on the resistance process,since cellular and non-cellular elements create an immunosuppressive environment,characterized by a dense desmoplastic stroma with cancerassociated fibroblasts,pancreatic stellate cells,extracellular matrix,and immunosuppressive *** to this are genetic mutations in TP53 and immunosuppressive factors that act on T cells,resulting in a shortage of CD8+T cells and limited expression of activation markers such as *** this way,finding new strategies that make it possible to manipulate resistance mechanisms is ***,techniques such as the use of TME modulators that block receptors and stromal molecules that generate resistance,the use of genetic manipulation in specific regions,such as microRNAs,the modulation of extrinsic and intrinsic factors associated with T cells,and,above all,therapeutic models that combine these modulation techniques constitute the promising future of PC ***,this study aims to elucidate the main mechanisms of resistance to immunotherapy in PC and new ways of manipulating thi

Background: We currently have international and national guidelines regarding the assessment and monitoring of clinical signs and humane endpoints in animals used in teaching and research, which make the performance of these activities mandatory for any experiment and professional working in this area. Assigning the severity of a research experiment is the result of an analysis of records of observations of the animal’s behavior, and clinical signs. The aim of this study was to describe the importance of carrying out a severity assessment associated with clinical and behavioral monitoring of rodents and rabbits during experimentation to maintain the welfare of these animals undergoing scientific research. Methods: The literature search was carried out using the following terms: “Monitoring”;“Humane endpoints”;“Animal welfare”, “Rodents”;“Rabbits”, and as connectors “and”;“or”, in the following databases: PubMed;LILACS/BIREME and SciELO. Results: A total of 987 articles were identified in the databases, and 20 of these studies were included in this review. Conclusions: Humane endpoint protocols and procedure severity tables are of the utmost importance, both from an ethical point and to refine the results of research conducted on laboratory animals. They should be drawn up jointly by the teams responsible for the project and the maintenance of the animals during the research period, and the data obtained should be published so that the scientific community can have access to it, helping to disseminate these practices, as well as helping to draw up new procedures. Monitoring and evaluating the welfare and clinical condition of animals undergoing scientific research procedures is the responsibility of the professors, researchers, veterinarians, and animal facility coordinators. Phenotypical Aspects of a Familial Syndromic Retinitis Pigmentosa

Aim: To report a familial case of syndromic retinitis pigmentosa identified at Aristide Le Dantec Hospital in Dakar and to describe their clinical characteristics ophthalmic. Observation: We report a sibling group of nine children, four died at a young age from unknown causes. Three children were affected by retinitis pigmentosa, two cases were syndromic. A history of nyctalopia was found in all three affected children. The mean age of onset of decreased visual acuity was 6.6 years. Patient 1 affected by syndromic retinitis pigmentosa had an extraocular sign of cystic dilation of the main bile duct. Patient 2 had myoclonic epilepsy, psychomotor retardation, and the molar tooth sign on cerebral MRI (highly suggestive of Joubert syndrome). The third child had isolated retinitis pigmentosa. Ophthalmological examinations (fundus examination, electroretinogram, and visual evoked potentials) and pediatric examinations in the remaining two children were normal. Discussion and Conclusion: Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare degenerative disease that can be associated with several other malformations, highlighting the importance of screening for associated conditions. It presents a grim functional prognosis and a life prognosis dependent on extraocular manifestations. Molecular biology (karyotyping, next-generation sequencing) could have identified the implicated genes and allowed for a formal diagnosis and genetic counseling.

The application of High‐Temperature Superconductor(HTS)coils made of coated conductors has been investigated for many years.A possible configuration for such coils is the jointless loop,also known as the ring *** double crossed loop coil(DCLC)has been successfully applied in superconducting magnetic bearings(SMBs).The design of SMBs with DCLCs requires flexible modelling to allow all parts of the device to be *** work proposes the T‐A formulation with a thin‐film approximation for modelling SMB with DCLCs in the finite element analysis framework.A 2D representation of the system is coupled with an external electric circuit to model the continuity of the lines that represent the parts of each jointless *** couple the T‐A formulation and the circuit,an average of the total electric field,with both resistive and inductive components,is applied to the *** total current computed by the circuit is applied to the T‐A *** proposed methodology was validated by comparison with levitation force experimental *** types of tests were simulated:five levitation force tests and three guidance force *** is shown that there is a limit to the behaviour of the levitation force related to the high‐loss *** this limit,the stack of DCLCs behaves as an equivalent *** this limit,a high‐loss state appears as a linear growth of the levitation *** is also shown that this high‐loss state in vertical displacement influences the lateral force.

BACKGROUND Hepatic infarctions(HI)are ischemic events of the liver in which a disruption in the blood flow to the hepatocytes leads to focal ischemia and *** HI are due to occlusive events in the liver’s blood vessels,but non-occlusive HI may *** are associated with disruption of microvasculature,such as in diabetic *** HI usually presents as peripheral lesions with clear borders,irregular nodular lesions may occur,indistinguishable from liver neoplasms and presenting a diagnostic *** SUMMARY We report a case of multiple extensive HI in a patient with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus,who first presented to the emergency room with diabetic *** then developed jaundice,thrombocytopenia,and a marked elevation of serum *** ultrasound of the liver showed the presence of multiple irregular *** investigation with a computerized tomography scan confirmed the presence of multiple hypoattenuating nodules with irregular borders and heterogeneous *** lesions were considered highly suggestive of a primary neoplasm of the *** the patient was clinically stable,his bilirubin levels remained persistently elevated,and he underwent an ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy of the largest *** results revealed extensive ischemic necrosis of hepatocytes,with no signs of associated *** months after the symptoms,the patient showed great improvement in all clinical and laboratory parameters and extensive regression of the lesions on imaging *** This case highlights that diabetic ketoacidosis can cause non-occlusive HI,possibly presenting as nodular lesions indistinguishable from neoplasms.

A review of superconducting fault current limiters compared with other proven technologies
