This study aims at investigating the effects of foliar application of aqueous solutions of La3+and Ce3+nitrates on soybean plants(Glycine max).First,we observe that Triton HW 1000 surfactant at 0.01 vol%reduces droplets contact angle and increases their drying *** greenhouse conditions,the foliar treatments do not affect chlorophyll content,plant height,number of leaves,number of pods,number of seeds per pod,and average seed ***,the treatments induce phytotoxicity since foliar injuries appear after the *** X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy combined to scanning electron microscopy shows that the leaf lesions are positively correlated to accumulation of Ce and La on the leaf surface and also promote structural alteration to the epidermal cells.X-ray absorption near edge structure shows that the La and Ce nitrates are partially bio transformed into oxides by the leaves which might explain the harmful effects.

Bends are widely used in pipelines carrying single-and two-phase fluids in both ground and space *** particular,they play more important role in space applications due to the extreme spatial *** the present study,a set of experimental data of two-phase flow patterns and their transitions in a 90°bend with inner diameter of 12.7 mm and curvature radius of 76.5 mm at microgravity conditions are *** and liquid superficial velocities are found to range from (1.0～23.6)m/s for gas and(0.09～0.5)m/s for liquid,*** major flow patterns, namely slug,slug-annular transitional,and annular flows,are observed in this *** on the differences between flow patterns in bends and their counterparts in straight pipes,detailed analyses of their characteristics are *** transitions between adjoining flow patterns are found to be more or less the same as those in straight pipes,and can be predicted using Weber number models satisfactorily. The reasons for such agreement are carefully examined.

Copper production is an essential component of the Chilean economy. During the extraction process of copper, large quantities of waste materials（tailings） are produced, which are typically stored in large tailing ponds. Thickened Tailings Disposal（TTD） is an alternative to conventional tailings ponds. In TTD, a considerable amount of water is extracted from the tailings before their deposition. Once a thickened tailings layer is deposited, it loses water and it shrinks, forming a relatively regular structure of tailings blocks with vertical cracks in between, which are then filled up with ＂fresh＂ tailings once the new upper layer is deposited. The dynamic response of a representative column of this complex structure made out of tailings blocks with softer material in between was analyzed using a periodic half-space finite element model. The tailings＇ behavior was modeled using an elasto-plastic multi-yielding constitutive model, and Chilean earthquake records were used for the seismic analyses. special attention was given to the liquefaction potential evaluation of TTD.

One of the most common critical areas of longwall mining in terms of ground stability are the gateroad and bleeder *** critical entries provide much-needed safe access for miners and allow for adequate ventilation required for dilution of hazardous airborne contaminants and must remain open during mining of a multi-panel *** paper is focused on the stability of the longwall entries subjected to a single abutment load such as bleeders,first tailgate,and last *** tailgate and last headgate are also referred to as blind headgate and tailgate.A study of a longwall district through conditions mapping,support evaluations,and numerical modeling was conducted and evaluated by researchers from the National Institute for Occupational safety and Health(NIOsH).The condition mapping and support evaluations were performed on entries that spanned the previous five years of mining and relied on a diverse selection of supports to maintain the functionality of the *** modeling was also conducted to evaluate various support types with further investigation and comparison to the condition *** study demonstrated the importance of the abutment load decay versus distance from the gob edge,the potential for a reduction in material handling related injuries,as well as optimal usage of secondary and standing support.

Roof bolting has long been used in underground mines across the world to provide ground *** roof bolts are cheap and easy to install with the use of specialized machines as a part of the production cycle. Lhoist North America’s Crab Orchard Mine is an underground room and pillar limestone mine that uses mechanically anchored roof bolts for ground support. The mine currently employs two different roof bolting patterns: a standard 1.5 × 1.5 m pattern, and another 0.8 × 0.8 m pattern for use in areas with particularly hazardous roof conditions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relative effectiveness of each bolting pattern. A series of numerical models were created using Roc science’s Rs2. The models were based on a symmetrical section of the mine at its deepest point, and were modeled using generalized Hoek-Brown failure criterion along with a discrete fracture network. A series of sensitivity analyses were performed on the models by varying parameters such as joint friction angle, crack persistence, joint randomization, and tensile strength of the limestone. Based on the results of the original models and sensitivity analyses, it appeared that the standard bolting pattern provided sufficient roof support capacity under almost all the expected conditions at the mine, since safety factors below the design value of 1.5 were only found for individual bolts in a few of the worst test cases *** results can help improve the mine’s productivity and reduce operating costs without compromising safety.

Buildings represent a large part in terms of fossil energy consumption,which depends on the great need for *** if the solar absorption heat storage system is possible,the performance of this system is affected by the cycle limits and the climatic *** goal of the present study is to control the thermal performance of the system cycle according to the imposed climatic conditions of Bucharest city,Romania,and therefore a numerical model was developed for this *** scheme and the thermodynamic cycle,the energy and mass balance equations,and the computational algorithm were *** results show that the cycle temperature increases at the end of desorption when the heating power supplied to the desorber is increased,which is also proportional to the drop in temperature at the beginning of the *** temperature at the end of absorption and the mass flow rates of the solution have a significant effect on the thermal power released from the absorber and used to heat the *** an average daily heat power of 1.35 kW/m^(2) and 10 hours per day of heating the building,the system with a solar collector area of 3 m^(2) has the capacity of heat supply for all the cold ***,an economic strategy remains necessary.

spalling of pillar ribs has been a major hazard in the mining industry for *** the absence of rib support guidelines,accidents have continued to occur in recent *** effective support guidelines requires a complete understanding of complex pillar damage *** models represent a convenient tool for analyzing this problem,but the behavior of such models is dependent of the choice of the constitutive *** this study,a recently proposed constitutive model was used to simulate the rib fracturing process in a longwall chain pillar at West Cliff *** calibration,the model was able to capture the rib displacement profiles for multiple locations of the longwall face and the stress evolution 4 m into the *** rib bolts in the model were found to be yielding over 60% of their length under the headgate loading *** model also predicted a steady damage accumulation in the rib for certain face locations,which is consistent with the description of the rib at the *** was localized along the upper part of the pillar and underscored the role that the dirt band played in controlling rib deterioration at the *** ability of the numerical model to replicate field measurements provides confidence in the capabilities of the new constitutive ***,the need of using multi-point calibration is highlighted by comparing the results of the calibrated model to an alternative model calibrated to a smaller amount of data.
