Climatological Hydric Balance and the Trends Analysis Climatic in the Region of Machado in Minas Gerais State,Brazil

Lately the planet’s climate has been constantly changing, caused mainly by global warming which has exposed a great deal of concern to the population over the years. In order to understand the possible impacts that such changes may have on the environment and society in general, the importance of the analysis of climate and hydrological events trends and their performance in a region is j.stified. The obj.ctive of the present work was to perform the climatic classification and to evaluate the behavior of the Climatological Hydric Balance—CHB, from the region of Machado state of Minas Gerais—MG, taking into account a historical series of 55 years of climatic season data of the National Institute of Meteorology—INMET;to verify the occurrence of climatic changes by the temporal trends of precipitation and the average temperature, using the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt method;and the influence of these possible climate changes on CHB behavior and on the region’s climate classification. Based on the results found it verified the increase in the water deficit between the months of j.ne to September and a reduction in the water surplus from November to February. By means of the trend analysis, there was a positive trend of increase in the average temperature of 1.6°C until the year 2100. The continuity and occurrence of these trends may have impacts on the economy, agriculture, the hydrological cycle, and consequently on the fauna, the flora and the population.

Introduction: Paraquat (1,1’-dimethyl-4,4’-bipyridine-dichloride) is a herbicide used to combat weeds and improve crop productivity. Its acute toxicity can cause fatal poisoning in humans and animals and several studies have shown a strong correlation between paraquat and Parkinson’s disease. Obj.ctive: To determine the concentration of paraquat in different types of rice in Brazil. Method: Paraquat quantification is based on a complexation reaction with sodium dithionite, which generates a blueish color compound, whose absorbance was read in a spectrophotometer at the 600 nm wavelength. Results: Five samples were found to be above the maximum allowed limit, while one sample had a concentration in the upper allowed limit. The method employed did not allow quantification of black rice. Conclusion: There is a need for identification of the type of pesticide used in each examined crop as well as their respective dates of remission in order to improve the safety of agricultural practices.

Background:To evaluate the association between corneal central endothelial cell count(CECC)with reactivity for hepatitis B virus(HBV),hepatitis C virus(HCV),human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),human T-lymphotropic virus-1(HTLV1),and syphilis from an eye bank ***:Eye bank data included 19,159 donors and 38,318 corneas screened for HBV,HCV,HIV,HTLV1,and syphilis from j.ly 2007-May *** and binary mixed effects models were used to determine the adj.sted marginal effect a positive viral screening test had on CECC and morphology,*** models were adj.sted for age,race,gender,lens status,and death to *** with missing data were excluded from the *** significance was defined as P values<***:A total of 18,097 donors and 35,136 corneas were included in the final *** CECC for eyes with negative viral screening was 2,597±436 while the average CECC for eyes screening positive for syphilis,HBV,HCV,HIV,and HTLV1 were 2,638±392(P=0.073),2,569±419(P=0.815),2,603±363(P=0.207),2,615±360(P=0.733),and 2,625±436(P=0.362)***:The presence of HBV,HCV,HIV,HTLV1,and syphilis display no association with a statistically significant difference in CECC when compared to normal non-diseased donors.

Partial Characterization of Chitinolytic Extract from Endophytic Streptomyces sp. and Its Effects on the Boll Weevil

The present study achieves the biochemistry partial characterization of the chitinolytic extract produced by an endophytic Streptomyces sp. strain （A8）. This extract was also tested against Anthonomus grandis, the cotton boll weevil aiming its control. The chitinase crude extract from the A8 strain was cultured for five days in a minimum liquid media supplemented with chitin. The extract was partially characterized by standard methods. The chitinolytic extract had an optimum temperature of 66 ＂C and an optimum pH between 4 to 9 （around 80% of relative activity）. We also characterized the temperature and pH stability and measured the effects of enzyme inhibitors. The filtered chitinolytic extract was added to an artificial boll weevil diet. Boll weevil development from the egg stage to the adult stage was prolonged, and the percentage of adults that emerged was approximately 66% less than on control diet. This study showed that *** development of A. grandis was inhibited by the presence of characterized chitinolytic extract in artificial diet. This work provides an experimental basis for using the chitinase from an endophytic bacterium Streptomyces sp. as a biocontrol alternativeto controlling the plant pest A. grandis.

This review provides an update on the epidemiology,pathophysiology,symptoms,diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine neoplasms(NENs)of the small bowel(SB).These NENs are defined as a group of neoplasms deriving from neuroendocrine *** are currently the most common primary tumors of the SB,mainly involving the ileum,making the SB the most frequently affected part of the gastrointestinal *** NENs by definition are located between the ligament of Treitz and the ileocecal *** are characterized by small size and induce an extensive fibrotic reaction in the small intestine including the mesentery,resulting in narrowing or twisting of the *** manifestations of bowel functionality are related to the precise location of the primary *** maj.rity of them are non-functional NENs and generally asymptomatic;in an advanced stage,NENs present symptoms of mass effect by non-specific abdominal pain or carcinoid syndrome which appears in patients with liver metastasis(around 10%).The main manifestations of the carcinoid syndrome are facial flushing(94%),diarrhea(78%),abdominal cramps(50%),heart valve disease(50%),telangiectasia(25%),wheezing(15%)and edema(19%).Diagnosis is made by imaging or biochemical tests,and the order of request will depend on the initial diagnostic hypothesis,while confirmation will always be *** patients with a localized SB NEN with or without near metastasis in the mesentery are recommended for curative *** and distant spread may be susceptible to several therapeutic strategies,such as chemotherapy,somatostatin analogs and palliative resection.

Indirect determination of shear wave velocity in slow formations using full-wave sonic logging technique

This article presents a case study concerning a seismic characterization ***-wave sonic logging was used to characterize the shallow compressional wave and shear wave velocity profiles in the *** values of the Poisson’s ratio derived from the velocity profiles suggested that the boreholes might have traversed slow formations(*** shear wave velocity smaller than the borehole fluid compressional wave velocity or“mud-wave speed”)and that conventional processing of the sonic logs might have misinterpreted the direct arrivals of fluid acoustic waves as arrivals caused by shear wave propagation in the ***,the shear wave velocity profiles provided by the contractor were considered to be unreliable by the proj.ct *** address these problems,a non-conventional determination of the shear wave velocity was implemented,based on the relationship between the Poisson’s ratio of the rock formation and the shape of the first train of sonic waves which arrived to the receivers in the sonic *** relationship was determined based on several hundreds of finite element simulations of the acoustic wave propagation in boreholes with the same diameter as used in the *** present article describes how this non-conventional approach was developed and implemented to obtain the shear wave velocity profiles from the raw sonic *** approach allows an extension of the range of applicability of full-wave sonic logging to determination of shear wave velocity profiles in formations with low compressional wave *** method could be used to obtain shear wave velocity profiles where compressional wave velocity is as low as slightly larger than the mud-wave speed.A sample sonic log in Log ASCII Standard(LAS)format is provided as supplementary material to this paper via Mendeley Data,together with the FORTRAN source code used to process the log following the approach described in this study.
