Thermomagnetic effect with microtemperature in a semiconducting photothermal excitation medium

The main goal of this paper is to focus on the investigation of interaction between a magnetic field and elastic materials with microstructure, whose microelements possess microtemperatures with photothermal excitation. The elastic-photothermal prob- lem in one-dimension is solved by introducing photothermal excitation at the free surface of a semi-infinite semiconducting medium （semiconductor rod）. The integral transform technique is used to solve the governing equations of the problem under the effect of the microtemperature field. The analytical expressions for some physical quantities in the physical domain are obtained with the heating boundary surface and free traction. The numerical inversion technique is used to obtain the resulting quantities in the physical domain. The obtained numerical results with some comparisons are discussed and shown graphically.

Structural and Tectonic Evolution of el-Faiyum Depression,North Western Desert,Egypt Based on Analysis of Landsat ETM+,and SRTM Data

False color Landsat ETM＋（bands 7, 4, 2 in RGB） and SRTM images of the EI-Faiyum depression, Egypt, highlights major NE-SW faults and other lineaments trending NW-SE and N-S. Airborne magnetic data reveal some E-W subsurface faults which are not recognized on Landsat ETM＋ and SRTM images. Ratio images （5/7, 3/1, 4/3） and （5/7, 5/1, 4） were used for lithological discrimination of different rock types. The EI-Faiyum area is occupied by sedimentary rocks of Middle Eocene, Upper Eocene, Oligocene, Lower Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and Holocene. Understanding the structural regime of EI-Faiyum depression in the Western Desert of Egypt is significant in relation to the neotectonics of the Nile Delta and to the development of new communities west of the delta. The area is covered by Late Cretaceous, Middle to Late Eocene deposits, Oligocene deposits （comprising fluviatile sediments and basalt sheets） and Pliocene and Quaternary alluvium and sand deposits. New geological and structural maps were prepared at a scale of 1 ： 100 000 using Landsat ETM＋ and SRTM images coupled with extensive field work. The major structural trends are E-W, ENE, NS and NW--the same trends observed elsewhere in North Africa from NW Sudan to NE Egypt including north and central Sinai. EI-Faiyum depression is a structurally-controlled tectonic basin, marked by northeast-striking faults along its northern margin. These faults are parallel to similar faults of the Syrian arc fold belt, which includes a group of related faults, folds, push-up structures, and basins. Qarun Lake is located in the northern part of EI-Faiyum depression, at a right-step between two strands of the NE striking fault system. We have suggested elsewhere that EI-Faiyum depression is a pull-apart basin related to extension between these mismatched strands of strike-slip faults. Dissolution of Manganese from Polymetallic Material Using Sulfuric-Oxalic Acid Medium

Sedimentary rocks have been found to host several Mn minerals in addition to some economic metal values. Besides recoverable Al occurring as gibbsite mineral, the latter include Cu, Zn, Co, Ni, U as well as rare earth elements. In this work, the ore material was subjected to sulfuric acid leaching in the presence of oxalic acid as a reductant to maximize the extraction of Mn. The optimum leaching conditions to achieve almost complete leaching efficiency of Mn with Fe dissolution not exceeding 13% involved 0.5 M sulfuric acid and 0.25 M oxalic acid in a solid/liquid ratio of 1/15 at 85°C for 105 min using an ore size of -150 μm. The leaching behavior of the associated interesting metal values (Al, Cu and Zn) has also been investigated.

Resilient modulus prediction of soft low-plasticity Piedmont residual soil using dynamic cone penetrometer

Dynamic cone penetrometer（DCP） has been used for decades to estimate the shear strength and stiffness properties of the subgrade soils. There are several empirical correlations in the literature to predict the resilient modulus values at only a specific stress state from DCP data, corresponding to the predefined thicknesses of pavement layers（a 50 mm asphalt wearing course, a 100 mm asphalt binder course and a200 mm aggregate base course）. In this study, field-measured DCP data were utilized to estimate the resilient modulus of low-plasticity subgrade Piedmont residual soil. Piedmont residual soils are in-place weathered soils from igneous and metamorphic rocks, as opposed to transported or compacted *** the existing empirical correlations might not be applicable for these soils. An experimental program was conducted incorporating field DCP and laboratory resilient modulus tests on "undisturbed" soil specimens. The DCP tests were carried out at various locations in four test sections to evaluate subgrade stiffness variation laterally and with depth. Laboratory resilient modulus test results were analyzed in the context of the mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide（MEPDG） recommended universal constitutive model. A new approach for predicting the resilient modulus from DCP by estimating MEPDG constitutive model coefficients（k;,k;and k;） was developed through statistical analyses. The new model is capable of not only taking into account the in situ soil condition on the basis of field measurements,but also representing the resilient modulus at any stress state which addresses a limitation with existing empirical DCP models and its applicability for a specific case. Validation of the model is demonstrated by using data that were not used for model development, as well as data reported in the literature.

Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma co-occurring with hepatitis C virus infection: A mathematical model

AIM: To develop a mathematical model for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a panel of serum proteins in combination with α-fetoprotein (AFP).METHODS: Serum levels of interleukin (IL)-8, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor II (sTNF-RII), proteasome, and β-catenin were measured in 479 subjects categorized into four groups: (1) HCC concurrent with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (n = 192); (2) HCV related liver cirrhosis (LC) (n = 96); (3) Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) (n = 96); and (4) Healthy controls (n = 95). The R package and different modules for binary and multi-class classifiers based on generalized linear models were used to model the data. Predictive power was used to evaluate the performance of the model. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis over pairs of groups was used to identify the best cutoffs differentiating the different ***: We revealed mathematical models, based on a binary classifier, made up of a unique panel of serum proteins that improved the individual performance of AFP in discriminating HCC patients from patients with chronic liver disease either with or without cirrhosis. We discriminated the HCC group from the cirrhotic liver group using a mathematical model (-11.3 + 7.38 × Prot + 0.00108 × sICAM + 0.2574 × β-catenin + 0.01597 × AFP) with a cutoff of 0.6552, which achieved 98.8% specificity and 89.1% sensitivity. For the discrimination of the HCC group from the CHC group, we used a mathematical model [-10.40 + 1.416 × proteasome + 0.002024 × IL + 0.004096 × sICAM-1 + (4.251 × 10-4) × sTNF + 0.02567 × β-catenin + 0.02442 × AFP] with a cutoff 0.744 and achieved 96.8% specificity and 89.7% sensitivity. Study of Lowlands Drainage Problems, Case Study Kamal el-Den Hessen Reclaimed Area, North Sinai, Egypt

This paper deals mainly to study and solve field drainage problems in Kamal el-Den Hessen new reclaimed area (1650 hectares), North Sinai Egypt, where many farmers complain about the formation of water ponds in their lands, bad soil drainage, soil salinity, and low yields rate. Intensive field investigations were carried out regarding, topographic survey, digging 22 boreholes, instilling observation wells, measuring groundwater salinity and assessing the existing drainage network. The results showed that ground surface levels were ranging from 1.5 m to 4.28 m above mean sea level, predominated soil was sandy with a permeability coefficient ranged from 0.82 to 2.68 m/day, an impervious clay layer lies at 6.0 to 7.0 m below ground surface, and the groundwater salinity ranges from 4 to 12 dS/m high salinity for water ponds were observed at the observation wells that lay in the lift side of Kamal el-Den Hessen Canal. Lands surrounding Kamal el-Den Hessen Canal have high levels. The measured groundwater depths of the western observation wells were 0.50 m below ground surface and in the eastern wells ranging from 1.0 to 1.50 m. The analysis of results showed that field drainage problems that increased groundwater levels were: 1) infiltration water coming from the high-cultivated areas at the lift bank of Kamal el-Den Hessen Canal, 2) the impervious clay layers increasing the horizontal infiltration towards low lands and increase ponds areas. 3) Main Gelbana Drain cross-section needs dredging. It is recommended to dredge the Main Gelbana Drain and modified its cross-section to collect water from water ponds, filling the lowland areas utilizing sandy soil in the high lands, adopting types of crops grown to match with crop salt tolerant levels and soil and water salinity levels and constructing subsurface drainage network to decrease groundwater levels.
