Peeling off the surface: Pt-decoration of WSe 2 nanoflakes results in exceptional photoelectrochemical HER activity

Photoelectrochemical(PEC)hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)was studied on exfoliated,pristine and Pt-decorated tungsten diselenide(p-WSe_(2))nanoflake samples,using a previously developed microdroplet PEC microscopy *** WSe 2 nanoflakes had well-defined thicknesses as measured by atomic force microscopy,and the Pt nanoparticles(NPs)were deposited by a variable num-ber of atomic layer deposition(ALD)*** exceptionally high photocurrent density of 49.6 mA cm^(−2)(under 220 mW cm^(−2) irradiation)and internal-photon-to-electron-conversion efficiency(∼90%at 550 nm)were demonstrated on these Pt-decorated WSe_(2)(WSe_(2)-Pt)*** Pt NP loading and thickness of WSe_(2) nanoflakes(in the 24–235 nm range)were used to fine-tune their PEC activity for *** found similar charge transfer and surface recombination kinetics of pristine and WSe_(2)-Pt specimens(as assessed by intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy),which indicated significant differences in their bulk properties.X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies were performed to identify defect states and quantify the density of states around the valence band of WSe_(2).The elevated temperature of the ALD process and the evolving Pt NP phase conspired to passivate the sub-surface(i.e.,bulk)defects in the WSe_(2) nanoflakes,resulting in their vastly improved PEC performance.

The cytoplasmic nucleotide oligomerization domain 2 （NOD2） receptor recognizes the bacterial cell wall component muramyl dipeptide （MDP）. NOD2 ligation initiates the nuclear factor kappa B and the mitogen-activated protein kinase cascades. However, administering MDP alone is insufficient to elicit strong cytokine responses in various immune cells, including dendritic cells （DCs）. Because the simultaneous presence of various microbial products and cytokines in inflamed tissues modulates DC function, we initiated this study to examine how interferon gamma （IFNy）, a central modulator of inflammation, affects the NOD2-mediated signaling pathway in human conventional DCs （cDCs）. Synergistic stimulation of DCs with MDP and IFNy increased the expression of CD40, CD80, CD83, CD86, and human leukocyte antigen DQ proteins and significantly elevated the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL- 1β, IL-6, IL-12, and tumour necrosis factor （TNF）, as well as anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. Furthermore, the simultaneous presence of MDP and I FNy was necessary to decrease IkBe protein levels. By investigating various mechanisms implicated in MDP- and IFNγ-mediated signaling pathways, we revealed that the increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines is highly dependent on the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein （XIAP） but not on cellular lAP1 and lAP2. We also found that the NOD2 signaling pathway is regulated by the mammalian target of rapamycin （mTOR） but is not affected by phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase or signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 inhibition. Our results demonstrate, for the first time, that IFNy positively affects NOD2-mediated signaling in human cDCs, in a manner considerably dependent on XIAP and partially dependent on mTOR.

New adso rbent material was obtained by modification of commercial Amberlite XAD7 with thiourea that represents a non-toxic,cheap and environmentally friendly *** adsorbent was used for removal of neodymium ions from aqueous *** modified Amberlite involved in this study shows good adsorption capacities(74.3 mg/g) and excellent efficiency during Nd removal *** order to elucidate the mechanism of the Nd adsorption process kinetic,thermodynamic and equilibrium studies were performed,establishing this way which kinetic model better describes the Nd adsorption *** the thermodynamic studies prove that the Nd adsorption on thiourea modified Amberlite XAD7 is an endothermic and spontaneous process.

Runoff Simulation of Three Gorges Area in the Upper Yangtze River during 1998 Flood Season

The contribution of areal precipitation of the catchment from Cuntan toYichang (Three Gorges area) to eight flood peaks of the Upper Yangtze River (the upper reaches ofthe Yangtze River) is diagnosed for 1998 flood season. A rainfall-runoff model is employed tosimulate runoffs of this catchment. Comparison of observed and simulated runoffs shows that therainfall-runoff model has a good capability to simulate the runoff over a large-scale river and theresults describe the eight flood peaks very well. Forecast results are closely associated with thesensitivity of the model to rainfall and the calibration processes. Other reasons leading tosimulation errors are further discussed.

The prediction of chatter vibration is influencedby many known complex phenomena and is uncertain. Wepresent a new effect that can significantly change the sta-bility properties of cutting processes. It is shown that themicroscopic environment of chip formation can have alarge effect on its macroscopic properties. In this work, acombined model of the surface regeneration effect and chipformation is used to predict the stability of turning pro-cesses. In a chip segmentation sub-model, the primaryshear zone is described with a corresponding materialmodel along layers together with the thermodynamicbehavior. The surface regeneration is modeled by the time-delayed differential equation. Numerical simulations showthat the time scale of a chip segmentation model is sig-nificantly smaller than the time scale of the turning process;therefore, averaging methods can be used. Chip segmen-tation can decrease the average shear force leading todecreased cutting coefficients because of the non-lineareffects. A proper linearization of the equation of motionleads to an improved description of the cutting *** is shown that chip segmentation may significantlyincrease the stable domains in the stability charts; fur-thermore, by selecting proper parameters, unbounded sta-bility domains can be reached.

OBJECTIVES： To explore the distribution of TCM patterns in ketamine users and the inter-rater reli- ability of TCM diagnosis among TCM practitioners. METHODS： Eighty-four subjects recruited from sub- stance abuse clinics and non-governmental coun- seling services catering for ketamine abusers were examined by one or two TCM practitioners. The dis- tribution and inter-rater reliability of the TCM diag- noses between the two TCM practitioners were de- scribed and measured. RESULTS： Seven TCM patterns were differentiated. The four most common patterns were the Heart Yin deficiency （29.8%）, Kidney Yang deficiency （26.2%）, Kidney Yin deficiency （19.0%）, and Spleen Yang defi-ciency （14.3%）. The agreement between the two TCM practitioners was 59%, the kappa for the three most common patterns was 0.472 （P=O.O03）. The proportion of men was lower in the Kidney Yin defi- ciency group （18.8%）, in comparison to the Heart Yin deficiency （60.0%, P=0.009） and Kidney Yang de- ficiency group （59.1%, P=0.013）. CONCLUSION： The differences between the TCM groups in terms of the source of referral and num- ber of drug uses other than ketamine were of bor- derline significance. Further research should focus on validating diagnostic tools and improving in- ter-rater reliability in TCM to enhance the quality of clinical trials of TCM treatments for ketamine abuse.

Benefits of Fixed Dose Combination of Ramipril/Amlodipine in Hypertensive Diabetic Patients： A Subgroup Analysis of RAMONA Trial

Background： Combination of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and calcium channel blockers has been successfully used in the ant±hypertensive therapy for many years. Fixed dose combinations of ramipril/amlodipine have a benefit effect for patients to achieve target blood pressure （BP）. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of fixed dose combinations oframipril and amlodipine （Egiramlon） in hypertensive diabetic patients. Methods： Hypertensive diabetic patients who were enrolled into the RAMONA trial were included in this open, prospective, Phase Ⅳ observational clinical study. Patients had mild-to-moderate hypertension and failed to reach target BP levels through their previous therapy. During the four months of observation, patients took part in three visits （1 st day - visit 1, 1 st month = visit 2, and 4th month = visit 3） where they received a fixed dose combination of 5/5, 5/10, 10/5, or 10/10 nag ramipril/amlodipine, respectively, with the possibly required dose titrations, based on the decision of their attending physician. Target BP for diabetic patients was 〈 140/85 mmHg. BP levels were measured in all visits, by taking two readings at 2-min interval. Laboratory tests including full blood count, renal function test, electrolytes, blood glucose, serum cholesterol, uric acid, triglycerides, liver function test, creatinine kinase, and midstream urinalysis were performed at visit 1 and visit 3. Results： The 6423 patients completed the study. Among these patients, 1276 （19.9%） patients suffered from type 2 diabetes mellitus. The mean age of these diabetic patients was 64.2 ±10.0 years; 707 （55.4%） patients were males. Target BP was achieved by 891 （69.8%） of diabetic patients at visit 3 （primary endpoint）. BP decreased from 157.5/91.3 ±9.6/7.6 mmHg （visit 1） to 130.9/79.6 ± 7.4/5.8 mmHg （visit 3）. As for the secondary endpoint of the study, total cholesterol decreased from 5.50 ±1.13 mmol/L （visit 1 ） to 5.20 ±0.95 mmol/L （P = 0.000）, low-dens
