Visual cognition,as one of the fundamental aspects of cognitive neuroscience,is generally associated with high-order brain functions in animals and ***,as a model organism,shares certain features of visual cognition in common with mammals at the genetic,molecular,cellular,and even higher behavioral *** learning and memory to decision making,Drosophila covers a broad spectrum of higher cognitive behaviors beyond what we had *** with powerful tools of genetic manipulation in Drosophila,an increasing number of studies have been conducted in order to elucidate the neural circuit mechanisms underlying these cognitive behaviors from a genes-brain-behavior *** goal of this review is to integrate the most important studies on visual cognition in Drosophila carried out in china's Mainland during the last decade into a body of knowledge encompassing both the basic neural operations and circuitry of higher brain function in ***,we consider a series of the higher cognitive behaviors beyond learning and memory,such as visual pattern recognition,feature and context generalization,different feature memory traces,salience-based decision,attention-like behavior,and cross-modal leaning and *** discuss the possible general gain-gating mechanism implementing by dopamine-mushroom body circuit in fly's visual *** hope that our brief review on this aspect will inspire further study on visual cognition in flies,or even beyond.

Finally,this experience-dependent feature extraction is absent in flies with defective mushroom bodies,one of the central brain structures in *** results indicate that prior experience can enhance visual feature extraction in Drosophila, and that mushroom bodies are required for this experience-dependent visual cognition.

＜正＞The mushroom bodies（MBs） are involved in the visual cognitive behavior of Drosophila,such as context generalization and decision-making facing conflicting *** we report that MBs mediate the sahence-based orientation behavior in object fixation-tracking paradigms in the flight simulator that resemble attention behavior in *** found that the fixationtracking ability of flies without MBs was significantly reduced not only at low contrast levels but also in certain noise backgrounds. In the fixation-tracking selection among multiple objects,only wild type flies discriminated the strong contrast stimulus to track, while MB-deficient flies could ***,we also found that the MBs not only inhibit visual background noise,but also inhibit olfactory background noise in salience-based fixation-tracking ***,all flies including the MB mutants showed improved fixation-tracking performance when the visual/olfactory signal was synchronous presented with an olfactory/ visual hint,which suggest that MBs are not involved in crossmodal synergetic integration between olfactory and visual signals in fixation-tracking *** findings suggest that the MBs are the brain center implementing a gating mechanism that pass and amplify the salient signals and filter out background noise or unrelated signals.

Tibetans are welt adapted to high-altitude hypoxia. Previous genome-wide scans have reported many candidate genes for this adaptation, but only a few have been studied. Here we report on a hypoxia gene （GCH1, GTP-cyclohydrolase I）, involved in maintaining nitric oxide synthetase （NOS） function and normal blood pressure, that harbors many potentially adaptive variants in Tibetans. We resequenced an 80.8 kb fragment covering the entire gene region of GCH1 in 50 unrelated Tibetans Combined with previously published data, we demonstrated many GCHI variants showing deep divergence between highlander Tibetans and lowlander Han chinese. Neutrality tests confirmed a signal of positive Darwinian selection on GCH1 in Tibetans. Moreover, association analysis indicated that the Tibetan version of GCH1 was significantly associated with multiple physiological traits in Tibetans, including blood nitric oxide concentration, blood oxygen saturation and hemoglobin concentration. Taken together, we propose that GCH1 plays a role in the genetic adaptation of Tibetans to high altitude hypoxia.

＜正＞Objective This study investigated the effects of tetramethylpyrazine（TMP）,an active element of tradional chinese medicine Ligusticum Chuanxiong,on proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells（NSCs） from rat brain in hypoxia condition and the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases（MAPKs） signaling pathway during the processes. Methods we use the rat NSCs culture to investigate the effects of TMP on cell proliferation and differentiation with MTT and immunocytochemistry and western blotting analysis,and the the phosphorylation of ERK,JNK and p38 in MAPK signaling pathway was examined after TMP *** The results showed that TMP increased the proliferation and promoted the differentiation of the NSCs into *** increased the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and decreased the phosphorylation of p38 at different *** inhibitor（U0126） in part blocked the defferetiation of the NSCs into neurons induced by *** Our findings demonstrated that TMP enhanced the proliferation and differentiation of NSCs of rat after hypoxia in vitro,in which the alteration of phosphorylation of ERK and p38 is involved.

Aging biomarkers are a combination of biological parameters to(i)assess age-related changes,(ii)track the physiological aging process,and(iii)predict the transition into a pathological *** a broad spectrum of aging biomarkers has been developed,their potential uses and limitations remain poorly *** immediate goal of biomarkers is to help us answer the following three fundamental questions in aging research:How old are we?Why do we get old?And how can we age slower?This review aims to address this ***,we summarize our current knowledge of biomarkers developed for cellular,organ,and organismal levels of aging,comprising six pillars:physiological characteristics,medical imaging,histological features,cellular alterations,molecular changes,and secretory *** fulfill all these requisites,we propose that aging biomarkers should qualify for being specific,systemic,and clinically relevant.

Tibetans are well adapted to high-altitude *** genome-wide scans have reported many candidate genes for this adaptation,but only a few have been *** we report on a hypoxia gene (GCH1,GTP-cyclohydrolase I),involved in maintaining nitric oxide synthetase (NOS) function and normal blood pressure,that harbors many potentially adaptive variants in *** resequenced an 80.8 kb fragment covering the entire gene region of GCH1 in 50 unrelated *** with previously published data,we demonstrated many GCH1 variants showing deep divergence between highlander Tibetans and lowlander Han *** tests confirmed a signal of positive Darwinian selection on GCH1 in ***,association analysis indicated that the Tibetan version of GCH1 was significantly associated with multiple physiological traits in Tibetans,including blood nitric oxide concentration,blood oxygen saturation,and hemoglobin *** together,we propose that GCH1 plays a role in the genetic adaptation of Tibetans to high altitude hypoxia.
