Quantum key distribution(QKD) provides a physical-based way to conciliate keys between remote users securely. Simulation is an essential method for designing and optimizing QKD systems. We develop a universal simulation framework based on quantum operator descriptions of photon signals and optical devices. The optical devices can be freely combined and driven by the photon excitation events,which make it appropriate for arbitrary QKD systems in principle. Our framework focuses on realistic characters of optical devices and system structures. The imperfections of the devices and the non-local properties of a quantum system are taken into account when modeling. We simulate the single-photon and Hong-Ou-Mandel(HOM) interference optical units, which are fundamental of QKD systems. The results using this event-driven framework agree well with the theoretical results, which indicate its feasibility for QKD.

Deactivation Effect Caused by Catalyst-Cocatalyst Pre-contact in Propylene Polymerization with MgCl2-supported Ziegler-Natta Catalyst

Propylene slurry polymerization with a MgCl2-supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst containing internal electron donor was conducted after different durations of pre-contact of the catalyst with triethylaluminum cocatalyst. The number of active centers([C*]/[Ti])was determined by quenching the polymerization with 2-thiophenecarbonyl chloride and measuring sulfur content in the polymer. The pre-contact treatment caused selective deactivation of a part of active centers with low stereoselectivity and much lower activity in the initial stage of polymerization as compared with the polymerization run without the pre-contact stage. The active center concentration and polymerization activity decreased with prolonging of the pre-contact stage. The proportion of stereoselective active centers was increased by prolonging the pre-contact stage, so the isotacticity of produced polypropylene was enhanced. Release of active centers through catalyst particle fragmentation was significantly retarded, and the polymerization rate curve changed from decay type to induction type by the precontact treatment. In the induction period both non-stereoselective and stereoselective active centers were released and activated, resulting in gradual reduction of the polymer’s isotacticity in the first 5-10 min of polymerization. Selective deactivation of non-stereoselective active centers also took place in propylene polymerization using the catalyst without pre-contacting with the cocatalyst. In this case, the polymerization rate decayed with time after a short induction period of 2-5 min. Over reduction of the active center precursors with low stereoselectivity by triethylaluminum was considered as the reason for their deactivation during the pre-contact or the polymerization processes.

The title compound GdMg（BO2）s crystallizes in monoclinic, space group P21/n with a = 8.6230（17）, b = 7.5860（15）, c = 9.3777（19） A, β= 93.19（3）°, V = 612.5（2） A3, Z = 4, Mr = 395.61, De= 4.290 g/cm^3,μ = 10.987 mm^-1, F（000） = 724, the final R = 0.0135 and wR= 0.0355 for 1373 observed reflections with I 〉 2σ（I）. The structure consists of BO3 triangles, BO4 tetrahedra, MgO6 distortion octahedra and GdO10 polyhedra. furthermore, BO3 triangles and BO4 tetrahedra have been verified by infrared spectra. The Gd atoms form infinite zigzag chains along the b axis with the shortest distance of Gd--Gd being 3.958 A. The shorter Gd--Gd will result in a strong interaction between active ions and a large fluorescence concentration quenching effect.

AIM To evaluate the efficacy of main portal vein stents combined with iodine-125(^(125)Ⅰ) to treat main portal vein tumor *** From January 1, 2010 to January 1, 2015, 111 patients were diagnosed with liver cancer combined with main portal vein tumor thrombus. They were non-randomly assigned to undergo treatment with transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)/transarterial embolization(TAE) + portal vein stents combined with ^(125)Ⅰ implantation(Group A) and TACE/TAE + portal vein stents only(Group B). After the operation, scheduled follow-up was performed at 6, 12 and 24 mo. The recorded information included clinical manifestations, survival rate, and stent restenosis rate. Kaplan–Meier curves, log-rank test and Cox regression were used for data analyses. RESULTS From January 1, 2010 to January 1, 2015, 54 and 57 patients were allocated to Groups A and B, respectively. The survival rates at 6, 12 and 24 mo were 85.2%, 42.6% and 22.2% in Group A and 50.9%, 10.5% and 0% in Group B. The differences were significant [log rank P cant(log rank P can significantly improve survival rate and reduce the rate of stent restenosis.

This paper proposes an additive nanomanufacturing approach to fabricate a personalized lab-on-a-chip fluorescent peptide nanoparticles （f-PNPs） array for simultaneous multi-biomarker detection that can be used in Alzheimer＇s disease （AD） diagnosis. We will discuss optimization techniques for the additive nanomanufacturing process in terms of reliability, yield and manufacturing efficiency. One contribution of this paper lies in utilization of additive nanomanufacturing techniques to fabricate a patient-specific customize-designed lab-on-a-chip device for personalized AD diagnosis, which remains a major challenge for biomedical engineering. Through the integrated bio-design and bio-manufacturing process, doctor＇s check- up and computer-aided customized design are integrated into the lab-on-a-chip array for patient-specific AD diagnosis. In addition, f-PNPs with targeting moieties for personalized AD biomarkers will be self-assembled onto the customized lab-on-a- chip through the additive nanomanufacturing process, which has not been done before. Another contribution of this research is the personalized lab-on-a-chip f-PNPs array for AD diagnosis utilizing limited human blood. Blood-based AD assessment has been described as ＂the holy grail＂ of early AD detection. This research created the computer-aided design, fabrication through additive nanomanufacturing, and validation of the f-PNPs array for AD diagnosis. This is a highly interdisciplinary research contributing to nanotechnology, biomaterials, and biomedical engineering for neurodegenerative disease. The conceptual work is preliminary with intent to introduce novel techniques to the application. Large-scale manufacturing based on the proposed framework requires extensive validation and optimization.

It has been found that the peak current in KRPB solution is of good linear dependence on the concentration of glucose. According to this relation, the standard curve is plotted and the results of determination of glucose concentration have been presented in the urine of diabetes mellitus. The interference from endogenous oxidizable substances such as uric acid, urea, as well as the effect of chloride on,glucose response are also studied.

BACKGROUND Portal pressure is of great significance in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),but direct measurement is complicated and costly;thus,noninvasive measurement methods are urgently *** To investigate whether ultrasonography(US)-based portal pressure assessment could replace invasive transjugular *** A cohort of 102 patients with HCC was selected(mean age:54±13 years,male/female:65/37).Pre-operative US parameters were assessed by two independent investigators,and multivariate logistic analysis and linear regression analysis were conducted to develop a predictive formula for the portal pressure gradient(PPG).The estimated PPG predictors were compared with the transjugular PPG *** was conducted on another cohort of 20 non-surgical *** The mean PPG was 17.32±1.97 *** analysis identified the association of the following four parameters with PPG:Spleen volume,portal vein diameter,portal vein velocity(PVV),and portal blood flow(PBF).Multiple linear regression analysis was performed,and the predictive formula using the PVV and PBF was as follows:PPG score=19.336-0.312×PVV(cm/s)+0.001×PBF(mL/min).The PPG score was confirmed to have good accuracy with an area under the curve(AUC)of 0.75(0.68-0.81)in training *** formula was also accurate in the validation patients with an AUC of 0.820(0.53-0.83).CONCLUSION The formula based on ultrasonographic Doppler flow parameters shows a significant correlation with invasive PPG and,if further confirmed by prospective validation,may replace the invasive transjugular assessment.

BACKGROUND Main portal vein tumor thrombus(MPVTT), which has a high incidence, is the major complication of terminal liver cancer. The occurrence of MPVTT is always a negative prognostic factor for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Therefore, attention should be paid to the treatment of MPVTT and its *** To evaluate the efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization/transarterial embolization(TACE/TAE)+^(125)I seeds implantation with transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) in treating MPVTT and its *** From January 2007 to March 2015, 85 consecutive patients with MPVTT were nonrandomly assigned to undergo treatment with TACE/TAE + TIPS and ^(125)I implantation(TIPS-^(125)I group) or TACE/TAE + TIPS only(TIPS only group) in Beijing Shijitan Hospital, and all clinical data were collected. During 24 mo follow-up, the incidence of overall survival, stent stenosis and symptom recurrence was analyzed to evaluate the efficacy of TIPS-^(125)*** During 24 mo follow-up of all patients, we collected data at 6, 12 and 24 mo. The rates of survival were 80%, 45%, and 20%, respectively, in the TIPS-^(125)I group,whereas those in the TIPS only group were 64.4%, 24.4%, and 4.4%, respectively(P cantly favorable in treating MPVTT and its complications in patients with *** TACE/TAE+^(125)I combined with TIPS is effective in treating MPVTT and its complications, improving quality of life of patients and reducing mortality.

Customized prostheses are normally employed to reconstruct the biomechanics of the pelvis after resection due to tumors or *** objective of this study is to evaluate the biomechanics of the pelvis under different daily activities and to establish a functional evaluation methodology for the customized *** this purposes,finite element model of a healthy pelvis as well as a reconstructed pelvic model after type II+III resection were built for biomechanical *** biomechanical perfonnance of the healthy and reconstructed pelvic model was studied under routine activities including standing,knee bending,sitting down,standing up,walking,stair descent and stair ***,the strength and stability of the prosthesis were evaluated under these *** showed that,for the heathy pelvic model,the stresses were mainly concentrated around the upper part of the sacrum and the sacroiliac joint undergoing different activities,and the maximum stress occurred during stair *** for the reconstructed pelvis,the stress distribution and the tendency of the maximum stress variation predicted for the bone part during all the activities were similar to those of the natural pelvic model,which indicated that the load transferring function of the reconstructed pelvis could be restored by the ***,the predicted maximum von Mises stress of the screws and prosthesis was below the fatigue strength of the 3D printed Ti-6A1-4V,which indicated the prosthesis can provide a reliable mechanical performance after implantation.
