Response to chemoradiotherapy and lymph node involvement in locally advanced rectal cancer

AIM: To establish the association between lymph node involvement and the response to neoadjuvant therapy in locally advanced rectal ***: Data of 130 patients with mid and low locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation followed by radical surgery over a 5-year period were reviewed. Tumor staging was done by endorectal ultrasound and/or magnetic resonance imaging. Tumor response to neoadjuvant therapy was determined by T-downstaging and tumor regression grading(TRG). pathologic complete response(p CR) is defined as the absence of tumor cells in the surgical specimen(yp T0N0). The varying degrees TRG were classified according to Mandard's scoring system. The evaluation of the response is based on the comparison between previous clinico-radiological staging and the results of pathological evaluation. χ2 and Spearman's correlation tests were used for the comparison of variables. RESULTS: pathologic complete response(p CR, yp T0N0, TRG1) was observed in 19 cases(14.6%), and other 18(13.8%) had only very few residual malignant cells in the rectal wall(TRG2). T-downstaging was found in 63(48.5%). Mean lymph node retrieval was 9.4(range0-38). In 37 cases(28.5%) more than 12 nodes were identified in the surgical specimen. preoperative lymph node involvement was seen in 77 patients(59.2%), 71 N1 and 6 N2. postoperative lymph node involvement was observed in 41 patients(31.5%), 29 N1 and 12 N2, while the remaining 89 were N0(68.5%). In relation to yp T stage, we found nodal involvement of 9.4% in yp T0-1, 22.2% in yp T2 and 43.7% in yp T3-4. Of the 37 patients considered "responders" to neoadjuvant therapy(TRG1 and 2), there were only 4 N+(10.8%) and the remainder N0(89.2%). In the "non responders" group(TRG 3, 4 and 5), 37 cases were N+(39.8%) and 56(60.2%) were N0(p ponse to neoadjuvant chemoradiation in rectal cancer is associated with lymph node involvement.

This study presents an analysis of sediments in an Andean river impacted by both natural conditions and anthropogenic activities. Fifty samples were collected from selected sites throughout the Moquegua River drainage basin, and Tambo River headwaters at pasto Grande, in peru, and analysed with X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Si, Ca, Al, Fe, and O, common constituents of soils, were dominant, along with K, N, and p. The latter originating as primary macronutrients or chemical residuals from fertilizers used in agriculture. Higher concentrations of macronutrients and organic components were found in agricultural and urban areas, respectively. Arsenic minerals were also detected, which occur naturally, but possibly at levels augmented by anthropogenic activity. The application of cluster analysis revealed clustering between arsenic, arsenolite, and potassium but no significant geospatial correlation between sample sites in the drainage basin.

The aim for this research is to determine the association between the risk factors and prevalence of overweight and obesity in students in the health field in the Autonomous University of San Luis potosí (UASLp in Spanish). A quantitative, correlational, and cross-sectional study was conducted from May to November 2012. By stratified random sampling, 290 students in the health field were selected. Questionnaire was used to identify factors associated with obesity. The obesity and overweight prevalence was determined, calculating body mass index through anthropometric measurement. The strength of the association between variables was measured using Chi squared and odds ratio tests. The proportion of students with overweight or obesity was 28.3% and was higher in men (36.8%) than in women (24.6%), with statistical significance (p psychology students (p ported an average appetite (79.3%) (p physical activity upon joining the university, which was a factor significantly associated with obesity and overweight (p pment of obesity and overweight in students. Implementation of a program is recommended to prevent and control such problems.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of the technological level in small-scale dual-purpose cow-calf Bos indicus female operations on the resumption of the ovarian activity post-partum. A total of 13 small scale dual-purpose Bos indicus × Bos taurus operations were included in this experiment and they were classified according to their technological status as: high technological status (HT), medium technological status (MT) and low technological status (LT). Ninety-three mature cows were treated with either a CIDR (controlled internal drug release device) with estradiol benzoate (CIDR+EB) or alone (CIDR). At day 9 all animals received intravaginally a CIDR for nine days. At day 0, the CIDR was withdrawn and 24 hours later one dose of estradiol benzoate was administered to 51 cows (17 in HT, 17 in MT and 17 in LT), the remaining animals (n = 42) did not receive the estradiol benzoate administration (14 in HT, 13 in MT and 15 in LT). Comparisons were performed on serum progesterone concentrations after CIDR treatment. By day 7 after implant withdrawal, the proportion of cows that resume ovarian activity detected by progesterone concentration increased in all technological level farms, no statistical main effect was observed within technological level. By day 17 there was a significant main effect of technological level (p = 0.05) on the proportion of animal that resumed the estrous cycles, but neither a main effect of treatment (p = 0.97) nor an interaction between technological level and treatment (p = 0.98). Furthermore, technological level of the farm showed a tendency (p = 0.07) to affect that resume the estrous activity, and a significant effect of treatment was observed (p = 0.005) but no interaction between technological level and treatment. The leaf-response to three-soil applied treatments of paclobutrazol (pBZ;1000, 2000 and 0 ppm-control) was studied in a high-density plantation of eight guava (psidium guajava) genotypes trees. All materials were prunned in vase form, with two to three major branches, yearly prunning for triggering the annual production cycle, and average height of 2.0 m. The dataset comprises fourth radiometric indices highly related to plant physiological activities. The dataset model took into account data collection dates, guava genotypes, and the positional effect of sun radiation on leaves based on their proximity to the canopy level and downward to the base of the woody seasonal-branch. Unexpectedly, there were no significant differences (NS) in pBZ treatments for genotypes, leaf position and radiometric indices. Analysis of the radiometric indices data revealed that anthocyanin (ARI index) and chlorophyll (pRI index) have a strong inverse relationship. Significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) were found between guava genotypes, and anthocyanin content;these results show that guava genotypes have varied responses, which could derive in their classification based-on drought resistance or low water requirements, however, it is important to note that additional research is required to determine the scope of these indications.

The exchange of oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) within an incubator has a significant impact on embryonic development (ED) and hatching processes. This study examines the influence of non-ventilation (NV) conditions during the first ten days of incubation at high altitudes on Leghorn hens hatching eggs. Five hundred four hatching eggs were equally divided into three treatment groups and placed in twelve incubators (R = 4). The first group was subjected to standard ventilated conditions (V) during the setting phase. The ventilation inlet holes of the remaining incubators in the NV treatments were closed with either micropore (M) or polypropylene (p) tape, referred to as NVM and NVp groups, respectively. These two different airtight settings were intended to allow for a gradual rise in CO2 naturally generated by the embryos. Results indicate that carbon dioxide concentration gradually increased during the first half of incubation, reaching 1.42% in the NVM group and 1.20% in the NVp group, while the V condition group remained at 0.15%. From 10 days of incubation onwards, normal V conditions were restored in all incubators. The highest hatchability of fertile eggs (HFE) was shown by the NVp group (55.7%), followed by the V (52.6%) and NVM (38.6%) groups. The NVp group showed a greater yolk-free body mass (YFBM) from 10 days of incubation until the hatch basket transfer. NV conditions during the first 10 days of incubation at high altitude produced higher YFBM with gradually decreasing yolk sac mass. In comparison to the NVM and V conditions, the particular NVp condition showed a beneficial impact on the quality of hatched chicks. Sustaining NVp condition (1.2% of CO2) throughout the first half of incubation at high altitude generated the optimal environment in the incubator ensuring the best hatchability results. This pilot study reports the vertical transmission and reverse thermosensitivity of the MS-H vaccine strain of Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) by RApD in commercial breeders and their progeny. At two weeks of age, breeders were vaccinated with the tsp>+p> MS-H strain. At 9 weeks of age, an outbreak of infectious synovitis (IS) was detected in the progeny. Tracheal swab samples were collected from breeders at 24, 39, 48, and 70 weeks of age. At 9 weeks, pullets swab from the elbow joints were collected. RApD was performed on the isolates at 39.5°C, and the same tsp>-p> MS-H strains were identified in the breeder hens and their progeny. Tracheal swabs from breeder hens were negative to MS isolation at 37°C and 39.5°C at 24- and 39-weeks. MS isolation was recovered from tracheal swabs from 9/10 and 10/10 breeders at 48- and 70- week. At 9 weeks of age in the progeny, MS was isolated from tracheal swabs of 10/10 from non-IS pullets. MS was isolated from 9/10 joints samples. The isolates from breeder hens and their progeny showed non-significant differences in five antimycoplasmic MIC100 values;otherwise, enrofloxacin presented a significant difference in MIC100 value (p pathogenicity, and vertical transmission of the MS-H strain. Consequently, it is crucial to contemplate the danger of reversing pathogenicity and transmission to progeny when applying the MS-H vaccine strain.

pseudopemphigoid can cause a chronic cicatricial conjunctivitis that is clinically identical to the manifestations seen in mucous membrane pemphigoid, a disorder with a common clinical phenotype and multiple autoimmune links. For the purpose of this review, we will describe pseudopemphigoid as caused by topical drugs, the most common etiology with ocular manifestations, and as caused by the pemphigus disease, a more rare etiology. Specifically, we will discuss the ophthalmological features of drug-induced cicatricial conjunctivitis, pemphigus vulgaris, and paraneoplastic pemphigus. Other etiologies of pseudopemphigoid exist that will not be described in this review including autoimmune or inflammatory conditions such as lichen planus, sarcoidosis, granulomatosis with polyangiitis(Wegener's granulomatosis), erythema multiforme(minor, major, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome), bullous pemphigoid, skin-dominated linear IgA bullous dermatosis, and skin-dominated epidermolysis bullosa acquisita. prompt diagnosis of the underlying etiology in pseudopemphigoid is paramount to the patient's outcome as certain diseases are associated with a more severe clinical course, increased ocular involvement, and differential response to treatment. A completehistory and ocular examination may find early cicatricial changes in the conjunctiva that are important to note and evaluate to avoid progression to more severe disease manifestations. When such cicatricial changes are noted, proper diagnostic techniques are needed to help elucidate a diagnosis. Lastly, collaboration between ophthalmologists and subspecialists such as dermatologists, pathologists, immunologists, and others involved in the care of the patient is needed to ensure optimal management of disease.
