Background:Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is recognized as the most lethal and most highly invasive tumor.The high likelihood of treatment failure arises fromthe presence of the blood-brain barrier(BBB)and stemcells around GBM,which avert the entry of chemotherapeutic drugs into the tumormass.Objective:Recently,several researchers have designed novel nanocarrier systems like liposomes,dendrimers,metallic nanoparticles,nanodiamonds,and nanorobot approaches,allowing drugs to infiltrate the BBB more efficiently,opening up innovative avenues to prevail over therapy problems and radiation therapy.Methods:Relevant literature for this manuscript has been collected from a comprehensive and systematic search of databases,for example,PubMed,Science Direct,Google Scholar,and others,using specific keyword combinations,including“glioblastoma,”“brain tumor,”“nanocarriers,”and several others.Conclusion:This review also provides deep insights into recent advancements in nanocarrier-based formulations and technologies for GBM management.Elucidation of various scientific advances in conjunction with encouraging findings concerning the future perspectives and challenges of nanocarriers for effective brain tumor management has also been discussed.

The persistent global pandemic,COVID-19,stems from the pathogenic influence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),yielding an unprecedented worldwide crisis.With reference to a WHO report,the count of COVID-19 cases had exceeded 754 million by February 03,2023.Intriguingly,emerging research has spotlighted the intricate interplay of gut microbiota and mitochondrial entities,acting as potent immunomodulatory factors at the cellular and molecular levels.This interconnection operates through a series of dynamic mechanisms.SARS-CoV-2 infection perturbs the delicate equilibrium of gut microbiota,leading to dysbiosis—a signature biomarker.This imbalance is intrinsically linked to exacerbated COVID-19 progression.Mechanistically,this microbial dysbiosis triggers aberrant immune responses,marked by cytokine storms,while also inducing mitochondrial dysfunction.Mitochondrial activities crucial to energy production and immunoregulation are compromised.This dual perturbation of microbiota and mitochondria contributes to disease severity.This review provides a comprehensive overview of these interconnected mechanisms,illuminating how microbiota-mitochondria interplay serves as both a diagnostic biomarker and a promising therapeutic target in the realm of COVID-19.

Assessment of the carbon emissions reduction potential in Thailand’s power sector with high penetration of variable renewable energy sources and electric vehicles in the year 2030

The power sector has substantial carbon emissions reduction potential that could achieve the new nationally determined contribution target in 2030 by increasing low-carbon technologies,e.***.variable renewable energy sources and electric vehicles(EVs).Therefore,two approaches were suggested in this work.In the first approach,Thailand’s power sector was modelled by using PLEXOS software to find the impact of the high penetration of variable renewable energy(RE)and EV charging load for the projected year 2030.The second approach proposed a demand-response and energy storage system solution with carbon pricing in the model to assess the targets.As a result,the electricity demand from charging EVs will cause a new peak demand at night,while the high variable RE penetration will cause curtailment in the power system due to excess supply at noon.Therefore,Thailand’s power sector has the potential for carbon emissions reduction by 45%with clean energy technologies,which could increase to 68%with carbon pricing,easily achievable by the nationally determined contribution target in 2030.However,these benefits could only be derived if various entities involved in the energy regulatory,transport and power sectors coordinate to implement the required technological and financial policies.

Who to screen and how to screen for celiac disease

Celiac disease(CeD)is a chronic gluten-induced enteropathy with plethoric manifestations.The typical manifestations of CeD such as chronic diarrhea and malabsorption are widely recognized,however,many patients have atypical manifestations like iron deficiency anemia,idiopathic short stature,hypertransaminesemia or infertility,etc.These patients often present to the primary care physicians and/or non-gastrointestinal specialties.However,due to a lack of awareness among the healthcare professionals about the various atypical manifestations,many patients are not screened for CeD.In this review,we have summarized the available literature about the prevalence of CeD in various gastrointestinal(chronic diarrhea)and non-gastrointestinal conditions(iron deficiency anemia,short stature,cryptogenic hypertransaminesemia,cryptogenic cirrhosis or idiopathic ataxia etc.)where the diagnosis of CeD should be considered.In addition,we also discuss special scenarios where screening for CeD should be considered even in absence of symptoms such as patients with type 1 diabetes,Down’s syndrome,and first-degree relatives of patients with CeD.Further,we discuss the diagnostic performance and limitations of various screening tests for CeD such as IgA anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies,antiendomysial antibodies and anti-deamidated gliadin antibodies.Based on the current recommendations,we propose a diagnostic algorithm for patients with suspected CeD.

Factors affecting electric vehicle acceptance,energy demand and CO_(2)emissions in Pakistan

This work aims to investigate the factors accelerating electric vehicle(EV)acceptance at the consumer end in Pakistan and analyzes the implications for policymakers for a fast-track EV transition.The study further in-vestigates the high EV penetration scenario resulting from the technology acceptance model(TAM's 80%EV)and its impact on energy demand and CO_(2)emissions.The study design used a quantitative analysis method with the survey as an instrument for data collection regarding EV acceptance.The model under investigation was adapted from the famous Technology-Acceptance Models(TAMs)and modified with other significant predictors evidenced in the literature.Correlation and stepwise regression were performed with a multicollinearity check for model hypothesis testing.Out of six predictors,only four factors were significant in accelerating the EV transition.Financial policies were found to be highly significant,followed by environmental concern,facilitating conditions and perceived ease of use.The research then used exponential smoothing forecasts for transport demand and developed an EV penetration scenario based on modified TAM results.The results highlight the significant in-crease in transport demand and the opportunity for Pakistan to limit passenger transport emissions to 36.6 MT instead of 61.6 MT by 2040.

A novel inertia emulator to reduce the rate of change of frequency for power systems with solar PV and battery energy storage

Energy access,climate change and public health issues are some major drivers for the need for renewable sources.However,most renewable sources,excluding large hydro,have zero or negligible rotational inertia,which is critical to stabilizing the power system after contingency.Therefore,this paper proposes a droop-based inertia emulator to reduce the rate of change of frequency and frequency deviations.The robustness of the controller is analysed by applying various uncertainties and disturbances of power system components that were carried out using DIgSILENT PowerFactory simulations.The obtained results are compared with existing literature and the desired performance shows an improvement in the rate of change of frequency of 34.78%for an IEEE 6-bus system,24.32%for a 12-bus system and 18%for a 39-bus system.

Impact of interconnections and renewable energy integration on the Philippine-Sabah Power Grid systems

This study presents a comprehensive impact analysis of the rotor angle stability of a proposed international connection between the Philippines and Sabah,Malaysia,as part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)Power Grid.This study focuses on modeling and evaluating the dynamic performance of the interconnected system,considering the high penetration of renewable sources.Power flow,small signal stability,and transient stability analyses were conducted to assess the ability of the proposed linked power system models to withstand small and large disturbances,utilizing the Power Systems Analysis Toolbox(PSAT)software in MATLAB.All components used in the model are documented in the PSAT library.Currently,there is a lack of publicly available studies regarding the implementation of this specific system.Additionally,the study investigates the behavior of a system with a high penetration of renewable energy sources.Based on the findings,this study concludes that a system is generally stable when interconnection is realized,given its appropriate location and dynamic component parameters.Furthermore,the critical eigenvalues of the system also exhibited improvement as the renewable energy sources were augmented.

Discovering hidden patterns:Association rules for cardiovascular diseases in type 2 diabetes mellitus

BACKGROUND It is increasingly common to find patients affected by a combination of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and coronary artery disease(CAD),and studies are able to correlate their relationships with available biological and clinical evidence.The aim of the current study was to apply association rule mining(ARM)to discover whether there are consistent patterns of clinical features relevant to these diseases.ARM leverages clinical and laboratory data to the meaningful patterns for diabetic CAD by harnessing the power help of data-driven algorithms to optimise the decision-making in patient care.AIM To reinforce the evidence of the T2DM-CAD interplay and demonstrate the ability of ARM to provide new insights into multivariate pattern discovery.METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Biochemistry in a specialized tertiary care centre in Delhi,involving a total of 300 consented subjects categorized into three groups:CAD with diabetes,CAD without diabetes,and healthy controls,with 100 subjects in each group.The participants were enrolled from the Cardiology IPD&OPD for the sample collection.The study employed ARM technique to extract the meaningful patterns and relationships from the clinical data with its original value.RESULTS The clinical dataset comprised 35 attributes from enrolled subjects.The analysis produced rules with a maximum branching factor of 4 and a rule length of 5,necessitating a 1%probability increase for enhancement.Prominent patterns emerged,highlighting strong links between health indicators and diabetes likelihood,particularly elevated HbA1C and random blood sugar levels.The ARM technique identified individuals with a random blood sugar level>175 and HbA1C>6.6 are likely in the“CAD-with-diabetes”group,offering valuable insights into health indicators and influencing factors on disease outcomes.CONCLUSION The application of this method holds promise for healthcare practitioners to offer valuable insights for enhancing patient treatment targeting specific subtype

Electrospun CNT embedded ZnO nanofiber based biosensor for electrochemical detection of Atrazine: a step closure to single molecule detection

In this study we have reported the design and development of a facile,sensitive,selective,and label-free electrochemical sensing platform for the detection of atrazine based on MWCNT-embedded ZnO nanofibers.Electrospun nanofibers were characterized using scanning electron microscope(SEM),transmission electron microscope(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscope(XPS),UV-Visible spectroscope(UV-VIS),and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscope(FTIR).Electrochemical properties of MWCNT-ZnO nanofiber-modified electrodes were assessed using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and cyclic voltammetry(CV).Binding event of atrazine to anti-atrazine antibody,which immobilized on nanofiber-modified electrode via EDC and NHS chemistry,was transduced with EIS.Due to high conductivity,surface area,and low bandgap of MWCNT-ZnO nanofibers,we have achieved the sensitivity and limit of detection(LoD)of sensor as 21.61(KΩμg^(−1) mL^(−1))cm^(−2) and 5.368zM for a wide detection range of 10 zM–1µM.The proposed immunosensing platform has good stability,selectivity,repeatability,and reproducibility,and are less prone to interference.

In this paper,we proposed an innovation diffusion model with three compartments to investigate the diffusion of an innovation(product)in a particular region.The model exhibits two equilibria,namely,the adopter-free and an interior equilibrium.The existence and local stability of the adopter-free and interior equilibria are explored in terms of the effective Basic Influence Number(BIN)R_(A).It is investigated that the adopter free steady-state is stable if R_(A)<1.By consideringτ(the adoption experience of the adopters)as the bifurcation parameter,we have been able to obtain the critical value ofτresponsible for the periodic solutions due to Hopf bifurcation.The direction and stability analysis of bifurcating periodic solutions has been performed by using the arguments of normal form theory and the center manifold theorem.Exhaustive numerical simulations in the support of analytical results have been presented.
