The coastal deposits along the eastern part of the Indian Peninsula are known for the high abundance of heavy minerals. The present study, as discussed here, has been undertaken along the southwestern coastal part of Odisha, India, adjoining the charnockite-migmatite zone of the Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt(EGMB). The composition of the placers along the study area is primarily controlled by the detritus from the proximal hinterland rock type(s). The weathering index has been established based on the grain morphology, major element concentration and radioelement ratios. Petrological characteristics and grain morphology of monazite, zircon, ilmenite and rutile have been presented respectively, and their implications are discussed. The provenance study of these coastal placers is based on the abundance of rare earth elements(REE) and radioactive elements in the placer sands and the rock types in the study area. The tectonic implications are based on the major element abundance of the beach sands.

Three-degree-of-freedom Parallel Manipulator to Track the Sun for Concentrated Solar Power Systems

In concentrated solar power（CSP） generating stations, incident solar energy is reflected from a large number of mirrors or heliostats to a faraway receiver. In typical CSP installations, the mirror needs to be moved about two axes independently using two actuators in series with the mirror effectively mounted at a single point. A three degree-of-freedom parallel manipulator, namely the 3-RPS parallel manipulator, is proposed to track the sun. The proposed 3-RPS parallel manipulator supports the load of the mirror, structure and wind loading at three points resulting in less deflection, and thus a much larger mirror can be moved with the required tracking accuracy and without increasing the weight of the support structure. The kinematics equations to determine motion of the actuated prismatic joints in the 3-RPS parallel manipulator such that the sun＇s rays are reflected on to a stationary receiver are developed. Using finite element analysis, it is shown that for same sized mirror, wind loading and maximum deflection requirement, the weight of the support structure is between 15% and 60% less with the 3-RPS parallel manipulator when compared to azimuth-elevation or the target-aligned configurations.

Oxygen free high conductivity(OFHC) copper was subjected to 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 cycles of repetitive upsetting and extrusion(RUE) process at room temperature. Microstructure and microhardness in the RUE processed material were evaluated at specific locations and correlated with the equivalent plastic strain. The microhardness of the material was found to be independent of strain or number of RUE cycles at certain locations whereas it exhibited strain softening behaviour at certain locations even though significant grain refinement was achieved. This difference in behaviour is attributed to the varied strength contribution from different types of boundaries present in the material after deformation.

The microstructure determines the photovoltaic performance of a thin film organic semiconductor *** relationship between microstructure and performance is usually highly non-linear and expensive to evaluate,thus making microstructure optimization ***,we show a data-driven approach for mapping the microstructure to photovoltaic performance using deep convolutional neural *** characterize this approach in terms of two critical metrics,its generalizability(has it learnt a reasonable map?),and its intepretability(can it produce meaningful microstructure characteristics that influence its prediction?).A surrogate model that exhibits these two features of generalizability and intepretability is particularly useful for subsequent design *** illustrate this by using the surrogate model for both manual exploration(that verifies known domain insight)as well as automated microstructure *** envision such approaches to be widely applicable to a wide variety of microstructure-sensitive design problems.

Producer gas through gasification of biomass can be used as an alternate fuel in rural areas due to high potential of biomass resources in *** were conducted to study the performance of a diesel engine(four stroke,single cylinder,5.25 kW) with respect to its thermal efficiency,specific fuel consumption and diesel substitution by use of diesel alone and producer gas-cum-diesel(dual fuel mode).Three types of biomass,*** chips,pigeon pea stalks and corn cobs were used for generation of producer gas.A producer gas system consisting of a downdraft gasifier,a cooling cum cleaning unit,a filtering unit and a gas air mixing device was designed,fabricated and used to power a 5.25 kW diesel engine on dual fuel *** of the engine was reported by keeping biomass moisture contents as 8%,12%,16%,and 21%,engine speed as 1 600 r/min and with variable engine *** average value of thermal efficiency on dual fuel mode was found slightly lower than that of diesel *** specific diesel consumption was found to be 60%-64% less in dual fuel mode than that in diesel mode for the same amount of energy *** average diesel substitution of 74% was observed with wood chips followed by corn cobs(78%) and pigeon pea stalks(82%).Based on the performance studied,the producer gas may be used as a substitute or as supplementary fuel for diesel conservation,particularly for stationary engines in agricultural operations in the farm.

Development of New Submergence Tolerant Rice Variety for Bangladesh Using Marker-Assisted Backcrossing

Submergence tolerant high yielding rice variety was developed using BR11 as a recipient parent applying foreground, phenotypic and background selection approaches. Recombinant selection was found essential to minimize linkage drag by BC2F2 generation. Without recombinant selection, the introgression size in the backcross recombinant lines （BRLs） was approximately 15 Mb on the carrier chromosome. The BRLs were found submergence tolerance compared to the check varieties under complete submergence for two weeks at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, and produced higher yield compared to the isogenic Subl-line under controlled submerged condition. The BRL IR85260-66-654-Gaz2 was released as BRRI dhan52 in 2010, which was the first high yielding submergence tolerant variety in Bangladesh. BRRI dhan52 produced grain yield ranging from 4.2 to 5.2 t/hm2 under different flash flood prone areas of Bangladesh in three consecutive seasons. The study demonstrated the efficiency of recombinant selection and better adaptability of the newly released submergence tolerant high yielding variety in flash flood prone different areas of the country with respect to submergence tolerance and yield potential.

Strain improvement, optimization and purification studies for enhanced production of streptokinase from Streptococcus uberis TNA-M1

BACKGROUND： Screening of isolates for their potency to produce streptokinase was an important criterion of this research. The current study emphasizes the strain improvement, optimization and purification studies for enhanced production of streptokinase from Streptococcus uberis TNA-M1 isolated from bovine milk. METHODS： The study was carried out on samples collected from milk sample. Primary screening and characterization is used as an excellent source for the isolation of 13-hemolytic organisms. Strain improvement was done by both physical ＆ chemical mutagenesis. The enzyme activity was checked by clot lysis assay and confirmed by fibrin plate method. The partially purified and crude enzyme were analysed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Molecular weight ＆ enzyme purity was checked by SDS -PAGE, further confirmed by fibrin zymography. RESULTS： Out of the 3 isolated strains, only one isolate expressed 13-haemolysis with streptokinase （SK） activity. Based on the results of radial caseinolytic assay and blood clot dissolving assay, isolate TNA-M1 demonstrated the highest streptokinase activity. Based on morphological, biochemical and molecular characterization, it was identified as Streptococcus uberis and the strain was named as Streptococcus uberis TNA-M1. The results indicated that ultra-violet （UV） and ethyl methane sulfonate （EMS） were effective mutagenic agents for strain improvement of Streptococcus uberis TNA-M1 and enhanced SK productivity. HPLC analysis was performed in order to confirm the presence of streptokinase with the similar retention time （0.875 min） with its standard （0.854） min. SDS-PAGE of the enzyme showed protein band of approximately 47 kDa and confirmed by fibrin zymography. It exhibited fibrinolytic activity, which was more potent than other fibrinolytic enzymes. Background. There is an increasing trend to represent domain knowledge in structured graphs, which provide efficient knowledgerepresentations for many downstream tasks. Knowledge graphs are widely used to model prior knowledge in the form of nodesand edges to represent semantically connected knowledge entities, which several works have adopted into different medicalimaging applications. Methods. We systematically searched over five databases to find relevant articles that applied knowledgegraphs to medical imaging analysis. After screening, evaluating, and reviewing the selected articles, we performed a systematicanalysis. Results. We looked at four applications in medical imaging analysis, including disease classification, diseaselocalization and segmentation, report generation, and image retrieval. We also identified limitations of current work, such asthe limited amount of available annotated data and weak generalizability to other tasks. We further identified the potentialfuture directions according to the identified limitations, including employing semisupervised frameworks to alleviate the needfor annotated data and exploring task-agnostic models to provide better generalizability. Conclusions. We hope that our articlewill provide the readers with aggregated documentation of the state-of-the-art knowledge graph applications for medicalimaging to encourage future research.
