Nanomagnetic Organogel Based on Dodecyl Methacrylate for Absorption and Removal of Organic Solvents

A novel nanomagnetic organogel was synthesized by in situ emulsion polymerization-crosslinking method using dodecyl methacrylate(DDMA) and styrene(St) as monomers, divinylbenzene(DVB) as a crosslinking agent, azobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN) as an initiator, and Fe_3O_4 as a nanomagnetic particle. Modification of the network was carried out by inclusion of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNT) into the organogel matrix. The structure of the nanocomposite was characterized using FTIR spectroscopy, SEM,TEM, TGA/DTG, VSM, and BET analysis. The effects of various parameters such as the amount of crosslinker, initiator, Fe_3O_4, and reaction time as well as monomer ratio on the oil absorption of the organogel were studied. The synthesized organogel can absorb about35.5, 22.1, 29.86, 14.58, 17.6, 15.3, and 13.7 g·g^(-1) of CHCl_3, toluene, CH_2Cl_2, hexane, crude oil, gasoline, and diesel oil, under the optimized polymerization conditions, respectively. The nanocomposite organogels can be easily separated by a magnetic field after absorption of organic solvents.

Galen’s place in Avicenna’s The Canon of Medicine: Respect,confirmation and criticism

Galen(129–199 A.D.), an ancient Greek scholar, is one of the most influential and recognized physicians and surgeons in the history of medicine. He is one of the most influential Greek scholar in Persian medicine, who has been repeatedly cited by Iranian scholars. The purpose of this article is to describe the exact position of Galen in Avicenna’s The Canon of Medicine, the most important work of Persian medicine. In The Canon of Medicine, Galen is cited about 300 times, and Avicenna always admired and praised Galen repeatedly. Galen’s ideas were important to Avicenna, but there are also many elements of Galen’s views that Avicenna challenged or criticized. For example, Avicenna diverged from Galen’s philosophical view in medicine and rejected some of Galen’s pharmaceutical opinions and Galen’s views on the physiology of pain, the physiology of pulse, the same nature of the tendons and nerves and separation of the mind and body. Although the views of Greek scholars, especially Galen, in The Canon of Medicine have been quoted abundantly, Avicenna revised the knowledge of the ancient scholars through critical thinking and relying on observation and testing, systematized the science of medicine and introduced many ideas and innovations. As such, Europeans considered Avicenna as the most prominent physician of the Islamic Golden Age.

We report herein the use of p-dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid（DBSA） as a catalyst for a one-pot Biginelli reaction to afford 3,4- dihydropyrimidinone derivatives in good to excellent *** reaction proceeds efficiently in water and under solvent free *** of results indicate that although the yields are high and comparable for both methods,the reaction times are considerably shorter under solvent free conditions.

The Iranian concept of home goes far beyond physicat aspects, and its essence is interwoven with the spiritual nature of humankind. This concept has gained new meanings with the modernization and industrialization of societies. In Iranian architecture, every need is realized in socio-physical systems as wetl as in design issues. Therefore, spatial retationships are centrat to architecture, especially residential architecture that addresses a great proportion of an individuat＇s dairy rife. Space syntax seeks to exptain how spatial configurations express social or cuttural meanings. One such meaning is confidentiatity, which was mainly introduced into Iranian architecture as a resutt of retigious betiefs. In Iranian architecture, confidentiality is viewed from the aspect of privacy. This study is a case study that makes use of description, anatysis, and logica[ reasoning. The objective is to analyze behavioral patterns in the spatiat configurations of traditional and modern houses in Hamedan. In so doing, library research, software simutation with the UCL Depthmap package, and comparison techniques are utilized. The findings indicate that the spatial configurations of houses have changed in the course of time. In terms of the indices of spatial configurations, however, the striking difference between traditionat and modern houses in Hamedan revolves around the integration and equivalence of aU spaces in a house. In other words, the hierarchy of access to spaces and the recognition of territories are limited in modern houses. Hence, privacy in modern houses fades.

In this simulation study,the flow and thermal characteristics of a novel rotarypiston engine,which is a kind of internal combustion engines,were investigated by computational fluid dynamics and the finite volume *** structure of this engine is different to others,mainly for having 24 cylinders during the motoring *** a novel engine,creation of numerical models based on Reynolds average Navier Stokes(RANS)simulation and analysis of various speed engines on the flow and thermal fields during intake and compression strokes are the focus of this *** results were illustrated in term of the streamline patterns,in-cylinder temperature and pressure profile,swirl ratio(SR),wall heat flux,and turbulent velocity *** present study indicates that,the mean pressure,temperature trace,and heat loss from the wall increase when switching to a higher engine *** temperature distribution reveals that the maximum temperature is restricted in the center of the combustion chamber near top dead center(TDC).Also,the maximum amount of turbulent velocity and swirl ratio are achieved at the beginning of the intake stroke and near *** is observed that the obtained numerical results are in general agreement with the available experimental data.

Towards a self-adaptive service-oriented methodology based on extended SOMA

We propose a self-adaptive process （SAP） that maintains the software architecture quality using the MAPE-K standard model. The proposed process can be plugged into various software development processes and service-oriented meth- odologies due to its explicitly defined inputs and outputs. To this aim, the proposed SAP is integrated with the service-oriented modeling and application （SOMA） methodology in a two-layered structure to create a novel methodology, named self-adaptive service-oriented architecture methodology （SASOAM）, which provides a semi-automatic self-aware method by the composition of architectural tactics. Moreover, the maintenance activity of SOMA is improved using architectural and adaptive patterns, which results in controlling the software architecture quality. The improvement in the maintainability of SOMA is demonstrated by an analytic hierarchy process （AHP） based evaluation method. Furthermore, the proposed method is applied to a case study to represent the feasibility and practicality of SASOAM.

A newly prepared catalyst consisting of acidic ionic liquid 1-(4-sulfonic acid)butylpyridinium hydrogen sulfate supported on silica was used to catalyze the cross-aldol condensation of ketones with aromatic aldehydes under solvent-free conditions. The highly active and selective catalyst gave good to excellent yields of the desired cross-aldol products without the occurrence of any self-condensation reactions. Reaction times were short, the procedure and work-up were simple, and no volatile or hazardous organic solvents were necessary. Moreover, the catalyst could be reused at least four times with only a slight reduction in activity.

BACKGROUND： Xerostomia is one of the most common side effects of radiation therapy among patients with head and neck cancers （HNC）. However, conventional medicine lacks an effective treatment for radiation-induced xerostomia. OBJECTIVE： Synthesizing the traditional use ofAIcea digitata and Malva sylvestris with their known beneficial effects from recent studies, we evaluated the efficacy of the herbs in the quality of life （QOL） of HNC patients with radiation-induced xerostomia. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： This study is a randomized, double-arm, open-label active-controlled clinical trial. We evaluated the effect ofA. digitata and M. sy/vestris on QOL of HNC patients with radiation-induced xerostomia compared with Hypozalix （artificial saliva）. Patients were enrolled from the Imam Hossein Hospital＇s oncology clinic in Shahid Beheshti University of Medica Sciences. Tehran, Iran. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Primary outcome measures in this trial were changes in patients＇ QOL assessed by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, Head and Neck Module （EORTC QLQ-H＆N 35）. RESULTS： Between-group analysis showed that the intervention group patients obtained significantly lower （better） total EORTC QLQ-H＆N 35 scores as compared to the control group at the end of the intervention period （P = 0.007）. Mean scores of dry mouth of EORTC QLQ-H＆N 35 was also significantly lower （better） in the intervention group as compared to the control group （P = 0.017）.

Theoretical analysis of the conical premixed flame response to upstream velocity disturbances considering flame speed development effects

The effect of upstream velocity pertuibations on the response of a premixed flame was investigated in terms of the flame transfer function dependency on excitation *** this study,the assumption of constant flame speed was extended and the effect of flame speed development was considered;i.e.,the flame speed would grow with the time after ignition or with the distance from a *** the present study,the kinematics of a conical flame was investigated by linearization of the front tracking equation of flame to uniform and convected fluctuations of the flow velocity and the response was compared with that of a V-shaped flame and the experimental data in the previous *** results show that the effect of flame speed development could influence a decreasing gain and increase the phase of the flame response to the uniform velocity oscillations in low and moderate *** the variations in the gain of flame response upon normalized frequency,show that a conical flame has lower values than the *** other woods,these flames might be less susceptible to combustion instabilities than the ***,the variations in phase of the V-flames responses,which show a quasi-linear behavior with normalized frequency,have higher values than the saturated behavior in phase of the conical flame ***,considering that the flame speed development induces an increase in the gain and phase of the conical flame response to the convected velocity oscillations in certain frequencies;because the developed flame front has longer length in comparison to the flame front in constant flame speed ***,the flame length may be longer than convective wavelength and the heat release would be generated in different points of the flame;consequently the flow oscillations might exert a stronger impact on the unsteady heat release fluctuations.
