Efficacy of scleral buckling for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment using a novel foldable capsular buckle

●AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of scleral buckling for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)using a novel foldable capsular buckle(FCB).●METHODS:This was a series of case observation *** patients(18 eyes)who visited our ophthalmology department between August 2020 and August 2022 and were treated for RRD with scleral buckling using FCB were *** procedure was similar to conventional scleral buckling,while a balloon-like FCB was placed onto the retinal break with balanced salt solution filling for a broad,external indentation instead of the silicone *** retinal reattachment rate,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),refractive dioptre and astigmatism degree,and complications were evaluated and recorded.●RESULTS:There were 7 males and 11 females aged *** average time course of RRD was 12d,ranging from *** retinal break was located in the superior quadrants in 8 eyes and in the inferior quadrants in 10 eyes,with macula-off detachments in 12 *** patients were followed-up for at least *** final retinal reattachment rate was 100%.The BCVA was significantly improved compared with the baseline(Pge in refractive dioptre or astigmatism degree at each follow-up(all P>0.05).Three patients had transiently high IOPs within one week after *** diplopia occurred in 5 patients after surgery and then disappeared after the balloon fluid was removed.●CONCLUSION:The success rate of FCB scleral buckling for RRD is *** procedure can be expected to be applied in new,uncomplicated cases of RRD.

Piezoresistive Characteristic of Conductive Rubber for Flexible Tactile Sensor

In the research of 2D flexible tactile sensor matrix,pressure-sensitive conductive rubber was developed and tested in which carbon black was used as its conductive phase and silicon rubber as its matrix *** were undertaken and the resultant data were used for its piezoresistive characteristics investigation for two kinds of electrode connection configurations,the surface directive connection and embedded *** is found that due to the rather strong nonlinearity of the piezoresistive characteristic curves obtained,a higher correlation relationship can be obtained by means of quadratic polynomial *** also showed that the embedded electrode assembling has higher fitting accuracy while the surface directive connection has better mechanical sensitivity.

A deep learning interatomic potential suitable for simulating radiation damage in bulk tungsten

So far, it has been a challenge for existing interatomic potentials to accurately describe a wide range of physical properties and maintain reasonable efficiency. In this work, we develop an interatomic potential for simulating radiation damage in body-centered cubic tungsten by employing deep potential, a neural network-based deep learning model for representing the potential energy surface. The resulting potential predicts a variety of physical properties consistent with first-principles calculations, including phonon spectrum, thermal expansion, generalized stacking fault energies, energetics of free surfaces, point defects, vacancy clusters, and prismatic dislocation loops. Specifically, we investigated the elasticity-related properties of prismatic dislocation loops, i.e., their dipole tensors, relaxation volumes, and elastic interaction energies. This potential is found to predict the maximal elastic interaction energy between two 1/2 loops better than previous potentials, with a relative error of only 7.6%. The predicted threshold displacement energies are in reasonable agreement with experimental results, with an average of 128 eV. The efficiency of the present potential is also comparable to the tabulated gaussian approximation potentials and modified embedded atom method potentials, meanwhile, can be further accelerated by graphical processing units. Extensive benchmark tests indicate that this potential has a relatively good balance between accuracy, transferability, and efficiency.

Fructose aggravating colon barrier dysfunction by decreasing gut bacteria metabolites indole-3-carboxaldehyde and inhibiting activation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor in vivo and in vitro

Background: Fructose may induce non-alcoholic fatty acids (NAFLD) due to the gut-liver axis interactions. The mechanism of fructose impairing colon barrier is unrevealed. Methods: Normal and DSS-induced Sprague-Dawley rats fed by 35% fructose diets were used to evaluate colon barrier functions. Microbiome and metabolome were applied to screen potential biomarker bacteria and metabolites induced by fructose. HT-29 cells were applied to validate metabolite biomarker indoleacrylic acid (IAA) and indole-3-carboxaldehyde (I3A) function in colon barrier which impaired by fructose. Results: Fructose induced colon barrier dysfunction， aggravated colon impairment in DSS-induced rats. With fructose intake， the colon length shortened， goblet numbers declined， inflammation infiltration induced， inflammatory cytokines increased， and apoptosis signals upregulated in colon tissue. Moreover， fructose induced dysbiosis of microbiota and their metabolites. Adlercreutzia， Holdemania were screened out as potential bacteria biomarkers， IAA and I3A as tryptophan metabolites were selected as metabolite biomarkers inhibited by fructose. IAA and I3A treatment alleviated the impairment induced by fructose by increasing trans epithelial electric resistance (TEER) value， tight junction proteins (TJPs)， and AhR activity in HT-29 cell. Conclusion: Fructose stimulated inflammation， apoptosis， gut bacteria alteration， and induced the reduction of IAA and I3A. Since fructose inhibited production of IAA and I3A， AhR remained inactivated and consequently induced colon barrier dysfunction.

＜正＞The new anisotropic continuum traffic flow model proposed by Jiang et al. is developed based on an improved car-following model, in which the speed gradient replaces the density gradient in the equation of motion. It overcomes the wrong-way travel which exists in many high-order continuum models. Based on the continuum version of car-following model, the condition for stable traffic flow is derived. Nonlinear analysis shows that the density fluctuation in traffic flow induces density waves. Near the onset of instability, a small disturbance could lead to solitons determined by the Korteweg-de-Vries （KdV） equation, and the soliton solution are derived.
