This paper deals with the application of Acousto-ultrasonics,in con- junction with Pattern Recognition and Classification techniques,to the identification of residual impact properties of a class of polymeric material,namely,Polyvinylchlo- ride(PVC).PVC specimens of different low-energy repeated impact damage states are processed by Acousto-ultrasonics(AU)to retrieve AU signals in the form of dig- italized *** AU signals are grouped as distinct classes,each pertaining to a known level of repeated impact *** features of these AU signals are used to build Pattern Recognition(PR)*** classifiers are used to identify unknown damage states in other PVC specimens by classifying the re- trieved AU signals as belonging to one of the *** obtained results indicate that Acousto-ultrasonics in combination with Pattern Recognition and Classification techniques can be used for the quantitative non-destructive identification of damage states in PVC specimens of unknown low-energy repeated impact conditions.

The present study evaluates ground-based downward surface shortwave radiation (Rs) over the coastal region of Alicante (Southeastern Spain).Hourly measurements collected over the eleven-year period 2010-2020 are *** weather stations located over the region capital,Alicante,have been selected as representative of urban and suburban *** additional weather stations far from the city have been selected representing rural *** is significantly reduced over the urban station during the morning hours within the winter season compared to the observations recorded over the suburban and rural stations,with a global mean difference of-81 and-120 W/m^(2)at 10 LT,***,no significant differences are obtained during the midday sun,with a global mean difference of-20 W/m^(2)between the urban and rural *** the aim of explaining these differences,the current paper investigates the relationship between Rsand different air pollutants:NOx,SO_(2),and fine particulate matter (PM_(2.5)and PM_(10)) as well as the wind field measured at the urban and suburban *** results found in this work point towards a close relationship between Rsand NOxconcentrations annual cycles,which are also influenced by the prevailing wind circulations observed over the study area.A global mean NOxconcentration of 107μg/m^(3)is observed over the urban station at 10 LT during the winter *** contrast,these high concentrations are significantly reduced over the suburban station,with global mean value of 40μg/m^(3)at 10 LT,for this period of the year.

This work assessed the impact of fuelling an automotive engine with palm biodiesel(pure,and two blends of 10%and 20%with diesel,B100,B10 and B20,respectively)operating under representative urban driving conditions on 17 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)compounds,oxidative potential of ascorbic acid(OP^(AA)),and ecotoxicity through D aphnia pulex mortality *** diluted with filtered fresh air(WD)gathered in a minitunel,and particulate matter(PM)collected directly from the exhaust gas stream(W/oD)were used for *** showed that PM collecting method significantly impact PAH *** all PAH appeared in both,WD and W/oD,higher concentrations were obtained in the last *** biodiesel concentration in the fuel blend decreased all PAH compounds,and those with 3 and 5 aromatic rings were the most *** biodiesel affected both OP^(AA)and *** B10 and B20 exhibited the same rate of ascorbic acid(AA)depletion,B100 showed significant faster oxidation rate during the first four minutes and oxidized 10%more AA at the end of the test.B100 and B20 were significantly more ecotoxic than *** lethal concentration LC50 for B10 was 6.13 mg/*** was concluded that palm biodiesel decreased PAH compounds,but increased the oxidative potential and ecotoxicity.

Insect herbivory can seriously hinder plant performance and reduce crop yield. Thrips are minute cell-content-feeding insects that are important vectors of viral plant pathogens, and are serious crop pests. We investigated the role of a sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum) lipoxygenase gene, CaLOX2, in the defense of pepper plants against Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis). This was done through a combination of in-silico, transcrip-tional, behavioral *** datashowthat CaLOX2 is involved in jasmonic acid (jA) biosynthesis and mediates plant resistance. Expression of the jA-related marker genes, CaLOX2 and CaPIN II, was induced by thrips feeding. Silencing of CaLOX2 in pepper plants through virus-induced gene silencing (VIgS) resulted in low levels of CaLOX2 transcripts, as well as significant reduction in the accumulation of jA, and its derivatives, upon thrips feeding compared to control plants. CaLOX2-silenced pepper plants exhibited enhanced susceptibility to thrips. This indicates that CaLOX2 mediates jA-dependent signaling, resulting in defenseagainstthrips. Furthermore,exogenous application of jA to pepper plants increased plant resistance to thrips, constrained thrips population development and made plants less attractive to thrips. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach shows that an intact lipoxygenase pathway mediates various components of sweet pepper defense against F. occidentalis.

We examine in detail a recent work（D. gülmez, U. g. Mei？ner and j. A. Oller, Eur. Phys. j. C,77： 460（2017））, where improvements to make ρρ scattering relativistically covariant are made. The paper has the remarkable conclusion that the j =2 state disappears with a potential which is much more attractive than for j =0,where a bound state is found. We trace this abnormal conclusion to the fact that an ＂on-shell＂ factorization of the potential is done in a region where this potential is singular and develops a large discontinuous and unphysical imaginary part. A method is developed, evaluating the loops with full ρ propagators, and we show that they do not develop singularities and do not have an imaginary part below threshold. With this result for the loops we define an effective potential, which when used with the Bethe-Salpeter equation provides a state with j =2 around the energy of the f2（1270）. In addition, the coupling of the state to ρρ is evaluated and we find that this coupling and the T matrix around the energy of the bound state are remarkably similar to those obtained with a drastic approximation used previously, in which the q2 terms of the propagators of the exchanged ρ mesons are dropped, once the cut-off in the ρρ loop function is tuned to reproduce the bound state at the same energy.

Male hypogonadism associated with obesity is a very prevalent condition and is increasing in parallel with the epidemic prevalence of obesity. Low testosterone levels promote higher fat mass with reduced lean mass. Male hypogonadism is related to an increase in associated cardiometabolic complications, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, the metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. Its influence as a comorbidity of obesity is becoming more evident and should be evaluated and treated in at-risk patients. Mechanisms involved in this relationship include body composition changes, the presence of adipokines, insulin resistance, and other factors, some of which are still unknown. Weight loss and treatment to replace testosterone levels improve the metabolic profile and quality of life in patients with obesity and hypogonadism; these beneficial effects depend on treatment modality and duration of therapy. The use of testosterone replacement therapy may be indicated, as it has not been shown to increase cardiovascular risk, and retrospective studies suggest a reduction in events in men with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

Background:One of the pathological hallmarks distinguishing Alzheimer’s disease from other dementias is the accumulation of amyloid beta(Aβ).Higher physical activity is associated with decreased dementia risk,and one potential path could be through Aβlevels *** aimed to explore the relationship between physical activity and Aβin middle-aged and older ***:A systematic search of PubMed,Web of Science,PsycINFO,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,and SPORTDiscus was performed from inception to April 28,*** were eligible if they included physical activity and Aβdata in adults aged 45 years or ***-level metaanalyses of intervention and observational studies were performed to examine the role of physical activity in modulating Aβ***:In total,37 articles were included(8 randomized controlled trials,3 non-randomized controlled trials,4 prospective longitudinal studies,and 22 cross-sectional studies).The overall effect size of physical activity interventions on changes in blood Aβwas medium(pooled standardized mean difference=-0.69,95%confidence interval(95%CI):-1.41 to 0.03;I^(2)=74.6%).However,these results were not statistically significant,and there were not enough studies to explore the effects of physical activity on cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)and brain Aβ.Data from observational studies were examined based on measurements of Aβin the brain using positron emission tomography scans,CSF,and *** physical activity was positively associated with Aβonly in the CSF(Estimate r=0.12;95%CI:0.05-0.18;I^(2)=38.00%).Conclusion:Physical activity might moderately reduce blood Aβin middle-aged and older ***,results were only near statistical significance and might be interpreted with caution given the methodological limitations observed in some of the included *** observational studies,higher levels of physical activity were positively associated with Aβonly in ***,further research is needed t
