The oscillating natural convection in the presence of transverse magnetic field with time depending pressure gradient is studied. The analysis of the problem is carried out by assuming that the fluid is flowing in a parallel plate configuration. The emphasis is on low frequency oscillating convective flows induced by g-jitter associated with micro gravity because of their importance to the space processing materials. A general solution for an oscillating flow in the presence of transverse magnetic field is carried out. Some special cases of the oscillating flow and its response to an applied magnetic field are performed. It was observed that the behavior of oscillating free convective flows depends on frequency, amplitude of the driving buoyancy forces, temperature gradient,magnetic field and the electric conditions of the channel walls. In the absence of magnetic field, buoyancy force plays a predominant role in driving the oscillatory flow pattern, and velocity magnitude is also affected by temperature gradients. To suppress the oscillating flow external magnetic field can be used. It is also found that the reduction of the velocity is inversely proportional to the square of the applied magnetic field with conducting wall but directly proportional to the inverse of the magnetic field with insulating wall. Detailed calculations and computational results are also carried out to depict the real situation.

Two different non_Newtonian models for blood flow are considered,first a simple power law model displaying shear thinning viscosity,and second a generalized Maxwell model displaying both shear thinning viscosity and oscillating flow viscous_*** models are used along with a Newtonian model to study sinusoidal flow of blood in rigid and elastic straight arteries in the presence of magnetic *** elasticity of blood does not appear to influence its flow behavior under physiological conditions in the large arteries,purely viscous shear thinning model should be quite realistic for simulating blood flow under these *** using the power law model with high shear rate for sinusoidal flow simulation in elastic arteries,the mean and amplitude of the flow rate were found to be lower for a power law fluid compared to Newtonian fluid for the same pressure *** governing equations have been solved by crank_Niclson *** results are interpreted in the context of blood in the elastic arteries keeping the magnetic effects in *** physiological flow simulation in the aorta,an increase in mean wall shear stress,but a reduction in peak wall shear stress were observed for power law model compared to a Newtonian fluid model for matched flow rate wave *** flow in the presence of transverse magnetic field in an elastic artery is investigated and the influence of factors such as morphology and surface irregularity is evaluated.

cOMPUTATIONAL TEcHNIQUE FOR FLOW IN BLOODVESSELS WITH POROUS EFFEcTS

A finite element solution for the Navier-Stokes equations for steady flow under the porosity effects through a double branched two-dimensional section of a three-dimensional model of a canine aorta was obtained. The numerical solution involves transforming a physical coordinates to a curvilinear boundary fitted coordinate *** steady flow,branch flow and shear stress under the porous effects were discussed in detail. The shear stress at the wall was calculated for Reynolds number of 1 000 with branch to main aortic flow rate ratio as a parameter. The results are compared with earlier works involving experimental data and it has been observed that our results are very close to the exact *** work is in fact an improvement of the work of sharma et al. (2001) in the sense that computational technique is economic and (Reynolds) number is large.

Development of Palmprint Verification System Using Biometrics

Palmprint verification system using Biometrics is one of the emerging technologies, which recognizes a person based on the principle lines, wrinkles and ridges on the surface of the palm. These line structures are stable and remain unchanged throughout the life of an individual. More importantly, no two palmprints from different individuals are the same, and normally people do not feel uneasy to have their palmprint images taken for testing. Therefore palmprint recognition offers a promising future for medium-security access control systems. In this paper, a new approach for personal authentication using hand images is discussed. gray-Scale palm images are captured using a digital camera at a resolution of 640×480. Each of these gray-scale images is aligned and then used to extract palmprint and hand geometry features. These features are then used for authenticating users. The image acquisition setup used here is inherently simple and it does not employ any special illumination nor does it use any pegs that might cause any inconvenience to users. Experimental results show that the designed system achieves an acceptable level of performance.

Structural features of substituted triazole-linked chalcone derivatives as antimalarial activities against D_(10) strains of Plasmodium falciparum: A QSAR approach

A quantitative structure–activity relationship(QSAR) was performed to analyze antimalarial activities against the D10 strains of Plasmodium falciparum of triazole-linked chalcone and dienone hybrid derivatives using partial least squares regression coupled with stepwise forward–backward variable selection method. QSAR analyses were performed on the available Ic50 D10 strains of Plasmodium falciparum data based on theoretical molecular descriptors. The QSAR model developed gave good predictive correlation coefficient(r2) of 0.8994, significant cross validated correlation coefficient(q2) of 0.7689, r2 for external test set)(2predr of 0.8256, coefficient of correlation of predicted data set)(2sepred,r of 0.3276. The model shows that antimalarial activity is greatly affected by donor and electron-withdrawing substituents. The study implicates that chalcone and dienone rings should have strong donor and electron-withdrawing substituents as they increase the activity of chalcone. Results show that the predictive ability of the model is satisfactory, and it can be used for designing similar group of antimalarial compounds. The findings derived from this analysis along with other molecular modeling studies will be helpful in designing of the new potent antimalarial activity of clinical utility.

Assessment of land use change and its effect on soil carbon stock using multitemporal satellite data in semiarid region of Rajasthan, India

Background:Land use change plays a vital role in global carbon *** land use change impact on soil carbon stock is crucial for implementing land use management to increase carbon stock and reducing carbon ***,the objective of our study was to determine land use change and to assess its effect on soil carbon stock in semi-arid part of Rajasthan,*** temporal satellite data of Pushkar valley region of Rajasthan acquired on 1993,2003,and 2014 were analyzed to assess land use *** trading of land use was depicted *** organic carbon(SOc)stock was calculated for soil to a depth of 30 cm in each land use type in 2014 using field data *** SOc stock for previous years was estimated using stock change *** effect of land use change on SOc stock was determined by calculating change in SOc stock(t/ha)by deducting the base-year SOc stock from the final year stock of a particular land use ***:The total area under agricultural lands was increased by 32.14%while that under forest was decreased by 23.14%during the time period of 1993–*** land use change shows that in both the periods(1993–2003 and 2003–2014),7%of forest area was converted to agricultural land and about 15%changes occurred among agricultural *** 1993–2003,changes among agricultural land led to maximum loss of soil carbon,i.e.,4.88 Mt c and during 2003–2014,conversion of forest to agricultural land led to loss in 3.16 Mt ***:There was a continuous decrease in forest area and increase in cultivated area in each time *** use change led to alteration in carbon equity in soil due to change or loss in ***,we can conclude that the internal trading of land use area during the 10-year period(1993–2003)led to net loss of SOc stock by 8.29 Mt ***,land use change during 11-year period(2003–2014)caused net loss of SOc by 2.76 Mt *** should be made to implement proper land

Assessment of Man-made and Natural Hazards in the Surroundings of Hydropower Projects under construction in the Beas Valley of Northwestern Himalaya

Mountain ecosystem, on the earth, has plenty of natural resources. In Himachal Pradesh all the rivers are snowfed and therefore rich in water resources. These resources have been supporting enough for the generation of electricity through introducing hydropower projects since the last decade However, every developmental activity has its own negative impacts on the surrounding environment. Due to the fragile nature of topography and delicacy of ecology of the Himalaya, it results in lot of disturbances because of high degree of human interferences like construction of major hydropower projects. The increased extent of geological hazards, such as landslides, rock fall and soil erosion, have mainly due to alike developmental interventions in the natural ecosystem. So understanding and analysing such impacts of the hydropower projects have mainly been on the environment in various forms but natural hazards have been frequent ones. The present study, therefore, focuses mainly on the Parbati Stage II （800 MW） and the Parbati Stage III （520 MW） hydropower projects; both of which fall within the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Based on the perception survey of the local communities, the existing land use pattern, status of total acquired land of the residents by hydropower projects, frequent natural hazards and resultant loss to the local communities due to upcoming construction of hydropower projects surrounding to the Parbati Stage II and III have been analysed in the paper. Also, the preventive measures to mitigate these adverse impacts have been suggested to strengthen these projects in eco-friendly manner in the mountain context.

BAcKgROUND Transfusion transmissible infections(TTIs)are illnesses spread through contaminated blood or blood *** India,screening for TTIs such as hepatitis B virus(HBV),hepatitis c virus(HcV),human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-I/II,malaria,and syphilis is mandatory before blood ***,HcV,HBV,and HIV are the leading viruses causing mortality,affecting millions of people globally,including those with co-infections of HIV/HcV and HIV/*** highlight the impact of TTIs on life expectancy and health risks,such as liver cirrhosis,cancer,and other diseases in individuals with chronic ***,millions of blood donations take place annually,emphasizing the importance of maintaining blood *** To study the prevalence of TTIs,viz.,HBV,HcV,HIV I/II,syphilis,and malaria parasite(MP),among different blood donor *** The study assessed the prevalence of TTIs among different blood donor groups in Delhi,*** included total donors,in-house donors,total camp donors,institutional camp donors,and community camp *** for HIV,HBV,and HcV were done using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,while syphilis was tested with rapid plasma reagins and MP rapid card *** prevalence of HBV,HcV,HIV,and syphilis,expressed as *** in infection rates between the groups were analyzed usingχ²tests and P-values(less than 0.05).RESULTS The study evaluated TTIs among 42158 blood donors in *** overall cumulative frequency of TTIs in total blood donors was 2.071%,and the frequencies of HBV,HcV,HIV-I/II,venereal disease research laboratory,and MP were 1.048%,0.425%,0.221%,0.377%,and 0.0024%,***-house donors,representing 37656 donors,had the highest transfusion transmissible infection(TTI)prevalence at 2.167%.Among total camp donors(4502 donors),TTIs were identified in 1.266%of donors,while community camp donors(2439 donors)exhibited a prevalence of 1.558%.Institutional camp donors(2063 donors)had the l
