Mechanical behavior of advanced nano-laminates embedded with carbon nanotubes-a review

Embedding carbon nanotubes(CNTs)in load-bearing composite laminate hosts to turn them into nano-laminates is a rapidly emerging field and has tremendous potential in enhancing the mechanical performance of the host *** state-of-the-art review intends to provide a physical insight into the understanding of the enhancing mechanisms of the processed and controlled CNTs in the *** focuses on four aspects:(1)physical characteristics of CNTs,including CNT length,diameter,weight percentage and surface functionalization;(2)processing and control techniques of CNTs in the fabrication of nano-laminates,including distribution,dispersion and orientation controls of CNTs;(3)mechanical properties along with their testing methods,including tension,in-plane compression,in-plane and interlaminar shear(ILS),flexure,mode I and mode II fracture toughness as well as compression-after-impact(CAI),ballistic protection and fatigue;and(4)CNT-matrix load transfer and enhancing mechanisms along with a few major governing *** selective and uniform production of CNTs with specific dimensions and physical properties has yet to be achieved on a consistent ***,the processing details of CNTs vary very significantly among different researchers so that the processed CNTs share little common *** is little control over the CNT orientations in most fabrication processes of the nano-laminates except for some cases associated with chemical vapor deposition(CVD).There are only two reports on in-plane compression and there is only one on in-plane *** reinforcement-dominated mechanical properties such as longitudinal tension and flexure,there was little enhancement ***,the substantial enhancement in in-plane compression strength was also *** matrix-dominated mechanical properties,such as transverse tension,in-plane shear,ILS strength and mode I and mode II fracture toughness,a significant enhancement,albeit with substan

Zinc is generally considered to be one of the most promising materials to be used in biodegradable implants,and many zinc alloys have been optimized to improve implant biocompatibility,degradation,and mechanical ***,long-term degradation leads to the prolonged presence of degradation products,which risks foreign body ***,we investigated the in vivo biocompatibility and degradation of a biodegradable Zn-Mg-Fe alloy osteosynthesis system in the frontal bone,mandible,and femur in beagles for 1 *** of the routine blood,biochemical,trace element,and histological analyses of multiple organs,peripheral blood CD4/CD8a levels,and serum interleukin 2 and 4 levels showed good biocompatibility of the Zn-Mg-Fe *** content analysis revealed zinc accumulation in adjacent bone tissue,but not in the liver,kidney,and spleen,which was related to the degradation of the Zn-Mg-Fe *** alloy demonstrated a uniform slowing degradation rate in *** degradation differences in the frontal bone,mandible,and femur were *** degradation products included zinc oxide[ZnO],zinc hydroxide[Zn(OH)_(2)],hydrozincite[Zn_(5)(OH)_(6)(CO_(3))_(2)],and hopeite[Zn_(3)(PO_(4))_(2)⋅4H_(2)O].The good biocompatibility and degradation properties of the Zn-Mg-Fe alloy render it a very attractive osteosynthesis system for clinical applications.

The angular momentum dependencies parity bands of heavy nuclei have been analyzed of parity splitting and electric dipole transitions in the alternating It is shown that these dependencies can be treated in a universal manner with a single critical angular momentum parameter, which characterizes phase transition from octupole vibrations to the stable octupole deformation. Using the simple but useful model of axially-symmetric reflection- asymmetric mode, the analytical expressions for parity splitting and electric dipole transitional moment have been obtained. The findings are in good agreement with the experimental data for various isotopes of Ra, Th, U, and Pu.

High-pressure/low-temperature Metamorphism in Northern Hubei Province,Central China

The Qinling-Dabie accretionary fold belt in east-central China represents the E-W trending suture zone between the Sino-Korean and Yangtze cratons. A portion of the accretionary complex exposed in northern Hubei Province contains a high-pressure / low-temperature metamorphic sequence progressively metamorphosed from the blueschist through greenschist to epidote-amphibolite / eclogite facies. The Hongan metamorphic belt can be divided into three metamorphic zones,based on progressive changes in mineral assemblages: Zone Ⅰ,in the south,is characterized by transitional blueschist-greenschist facies; ZoneⅡis characterized by greenschist facies; ZoneⅢ,in the northern most portion of the belt,is characterized by eclogite and epidote-amphibolite facies sequences. Changes in amphibole compositions from south to north as well as the appearance of increasingly higher pressure mineral assemblages toward the north document differences in metamorphic P-T conditions during formation of this belt. Preliminary P-T estimates for Zone I metamorphism are 5 ~ 7 kbar,350 ~ 450℃; estimates for Zone III eclogites are 10 ~ 22 kbar,500 ±50℃. The petrographic,chemical and structural characteristics of this metamorphic belt indicate its evolutionin a northward-dipping subduction zone and subsequent uplift prior to and during the final collisionbetween the Sino-Korean and Yangtze cratons.

Carbon dioxide photocatalytic reduction (CO2-PR) is an efficient method for controlling CO2emissions and generating cleaner energy while mitigating global warming. Tungsten oxides (WxOy) have attracted considerable attention for CO2-PR due to their excellent spectral absorbance. However, comprehensive reviews are lacking on the use of WxOyfor CO2-PR. Therefore, this review provides a detailed summary of t research progress made with WxOy-based catalysts in CO2-PR. It also explains the fundamental principles of CO2-PR and evaluates key performance indicators that affect the activity of WxOy-based photocatalysts,including yield, selectivity, stability, and apparent quantum yield. Additionally, this review explores opportunities for synthesizing high-performance WxOy-based photocatalysts and highlights their potential for the green preparation of C1/C2 products through CO2-PR. These innovative strategies aim to address the challenges and pressures associated with energy and environmental issues, particularly by enhancing artificial photosynthesis efficiency.

Dear Editor,This letter studies the bipartite consensus tracking problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems with actuator faults and a leader's unknown time-varying control input. To handle such a problem, the continuous fault-tolerant control protocol via observer design is developed. In addition, it is strictly proved that the multi-agent system driven by the designed controllers can still achieve bipartite consensus tracking after faults occur.

Identifiability and sloppiness of structured systems with a matrix fraction description using finite frequency responses

This paper investigates the identifiability of structured systems with a matrix fraction description and attacks practical difficulties in estimating parameters under finite frequency responses. The numerator and denominator polynomial matrices depend affinely on system parameters, which can represent a broad range of systems, especially circuits and mechanical systems. Except for assuming that the denominator matrix is invertible, no further assumptions are adopted. A criterion is provided for validating this assumption utilizing graph theories and matroids. A sufficient and necessary criterion for global identifiability based on the rank of a numerical matrix is given and can be recursively verified with each frequency point,which is computationally attractive for large-scale systems. For an identifiable system, an ellipsoid approximation is obtained for the set of parameters whose corresponding system frequency responses deviate within a specific range from those of the system at a specific parameter value. Using this approximation, explicit expressions for absolute and relative sloppiness have been derived, which can be used to quantify the difficulty of identifying system parameters. Comparisons with the well-known Fisher information matrix have also been performed through a mechanical system, revealing significant differences in quantifying parameter estimation hardness.

Construction of eco-friendly dual carbon dots ratiometric fluorescence probe for highly selective and efficient sensing mercury ion

In present work,blue carbon dots(b-CDs)were derived from ammonium citrate and guanidine hydrochloride,and red carbon dots(r-CDs)were stemmed from malonate,ethylenediamine and meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphin based on facile hydrothermal ***-friendly ratiometric fluorescence probe was innovatively constructed to effectively measure Hg2+utilizing b-CDs and *** developed probe displayed two typical emission peaks at 450 nm from b-CDs and 650 nm from r-CDs under the excitation at 360 *** ion has strong quenching effect on the fluorescence intensity at 450 nm due to the electron transfer process and the fluorescence change at 450 nm was used as the response signal,whereas the fluorescence intensity at 650 nm kept unchangeable which resulted from the chemical inertness between Hg^(2+)and r-CDs,serving as the reference signal in the sensing *** optimal circumstances,this probe exhibited an excellent linearity between the fluorescence response values of F450/F650 and Hg^(2+)concentrations over range of 0.01-10μmol/L,and the limit of detectionwas down to 5.3 nmol/***,this probe was successfully employed for sensing Hg^(2+)in practical environmental water samples with satisfied recoveries of 98.5%-105.0%.The constructed ratiometric fluorescent probe provided a rapid,environmental-friendly,reliable,and efficient platform for measuring trace Hg^(2+)in environmental field.
