Potassium alleviated high nitrogen-induced apple growth inhibition by regulating photosynthetic nitrogen allocation and enhancing nitrogen utilization capacity

There is a close relationship between potassium(K)and nitrogen(N).However,the roles of K under high N conditions remain *** a hydroponics approach,we monitored the morphological,physiological,and molecular changes in M9T337 apple(Malus domestica)rootstocks under different nitrate(10 and 30 mmol·L^(-1)NO_(3)^(-))and K supply(0.5,6,10,and 20 mmol·L_(-1)K^(+))*** revealed that high nitrate inhibited the root growth of M9T337 rootstocks,downregulated the expressions of K transporter genes(MdPT5,MdHKT1,and MdATK1),and reduced the net NO3-and K+influx at the surface of roots,thereby resulting in an N/K imbalance in *** investigation showed that 10 mmol·L^(-1)K increased the activity of N metabolic enzymes(NR,gS,NiR,and gOgAT),upregulated the expressions of genes related to nitrate uptake and transport(MdNRT1.1,MdNRT1.2,MdNRT1.5,and MdNRT2.4),promoted15N transport from the roots to the shoots,optimized leaf N distribution,and improved photosynthetic N utilization efficiency under high nitrate *** results suggest that the negative effects of high nitrate may be related to the N/K imbalance and that reducing N/K in plants by increasing K supply level can effectively alleviate the inhibition of N assimilation by high nitrate stress.

Formation behaviors of rod-like reactive shaped charge penetrator and their effects on damage capability

Formation behaviors of rod-like reactive shaped charge penetrator(RRSCP)and their effects on damage capability are investigated by experiments and numerical *** pulsed X-ray technology and a spaced aluminum/steel plate with the thicknesses of 5 mm/100 mm are *** types of sphericalsegment aluminum-polytetrafluoroethylene-copper(Al-PTFE-Cu)reactive liners with Cu contents of 0%,46.6%,and 66%are fabricated and *** experimental results show that the reactive liners can form excellent rod-shaped penetrators with tail skirts under the shaped charge effect,but the tail skirts disappear over ***,rupturing damage to the aluminum plate and penetration to the steel plate are caused by the RRSCP *** simulation analysis,the RRSCP is formed by a mechanically and chemically coupled response with the reactive liner activated by shock in its outer walls and bottom and then backward overturning,forming a leading reactive penetrator and a following chemical energy *** unique formation structure determines the damage modes of the aluminum plate and the steel *** analysis indicates that the formation behaviors and damage capability of Al-PTFE-Cu RRSCP strongly depend on Cu *** increasing Cu content,the velocity,activation extent,and reaction extent of Al-PTFE-Cu RRSCP decrease,which contribute to elongation and alleviate the negative effects of chemical reactions on elongation,significantly increasing the length-diameter ratio and thus enhancing the capability of steel plate ***,the lower activation extent and energetic density will weaken the RRSCP's capability of causing rupturing damage to the aluminum plate.

Study of interfacial transition zones between magnesium phosphate cement and Portland cement concrete pavement

The Portland cement concrete pavement(PCCP)often suffers from different environmental distresses and vehicle load failure,resulting in slab corner fractures,potholes,and other *** repair has become one of the effective ways to open traffic *** this study,a novel type of rapid repair material,basalt fiber reinforced polymer modified magnesium phosphate cement(BFPMPC),is used to rapidly repair ***,the mechanical properties and characteristics of the repair interfaces which are named interfacial transition zones(ITZs)formed by BFPMPC and cement concrete are focused on as a decisive factor for the performance of the rapid *** changing trend of the elastic moduli was studied by nanoindentation experiments in the ITZs with the deconvolution analysis that the elastic moduli of certain kinds of substances can be *** experimental results show that the elastic modulus of ITZ-1 with a width of about20μm can be regarded as 0.098 times of the aggregate,and 0.51 times of the ordinary Portland cement(OPC)*** BFPMPC-OPC mortar ITZ has roughly the same mechanical properties as the ITZ between aggregate and BFPMPC.A multi-scale representative two-dimensional model was established by random aggregate and a two-dimensional extended finite element method(XFEM)to study the mechanical properties of the repair *** simulation results show that the ITZ formed by the interface of BFPMPC and OPC mortar and basalt aggregate is the most vulnerable to failure,which is consistent with the nano-indentation experimental results.

Knockout of a rice K5.2 gene increases Ca accumulation in the grain

Rice is a staple food for half of the world’s population,but it is a poor dietary source of calcium(Ca)due to the low *** is an important issue to boost Ca concentration in this grain to improve Ca deficiency risk,but the mechanisms underlying Ca accumulation are poorly ***,we obtained a rice(Oryza sativa)mutant with high shoot Ca *** mutant exhibited 26%-53% higher Ca in shoots than did wild-type rice(WT)at different Ca *** concentration in the xylem sap was 36% higher in the mutant than in the *** was no difference in agronomic traits between the WT and mutant,but the mutant showed 25% higher Ca in the polished grain compared with the ***-based cloning combined with a complementation test revealed that the mutant phenotype was caused by an 18-bp deletion of a gene,OsK5.2,belonging to the Shaker-like K+channel ***5.2 was highly expressed in the mature region of the roots and its expression in the roots was not affected by Ca levels,but upregulated by low *** showed that OsK5.2 was mainly expressed in the pericycle of the *** together,our results revealed a novel role for OsK5.2 in Ca translocation in rice,and will be a good target for Ca biofortification in rice.

Significant contribution of carbonyls to atmospheric oxidation capacity(AOC)during the winter haze pollution over North China Plain

Atmospheric carbonyl compounds play significant roles in the cycling of radicals and have exhibited surprisingly high levels in winter that were well correlated to particulate matter,for which the reason have not been clearly *** we measured carbonyl compounds and other trace gasses together with PM_(2.5)over urban Jinan in North China Plain during the *** higher carbonyl concentrations(average:14.63±4.21 ppbv)were found during wintertime haze pollution,about one to three-times relative to those on nonhaze days,with slight difference in chemical composition except formaldehyde(HCHO).HCHO(3.68 ppbv),acetone(3.17 ppbv),and acetaldehyde(CH_3CHO)(2.83 ppbv)were the three most abundant species,accounting for~75% of the total carbonylson both haze and non-haze *** from observational-based model(OBM)with atmospheric oxidation capacity(AOC)indicated that AOC significantly increased with the increasing carbonyls during the winter haze *** photolysis have supplied key oxidants such as RO_(2) and HO_(2),and thereby enhancing the formation of fine particles and secondary organic aerosols,elucidating the observed haze-carbonyls *** variation with carbonyls exhibiting peak values at early-noon and night highlighted the combined contribution of both secondary formation and primary diesel-fuel sources.1-butene was further confirmed to be the major precursor for *** study confirms the great contribution of carbonyls to AOC,and also suggests that reducing the emissions of carbonyls would be an effective way to mitigate haze pollution in urban area of the NCP region.

Laboratory and field evaluation of a low-cost optical particle sizer

Low-cost sensors are widely used to collect high-spatial-resolution particulate matter data that traditional reference monitoring devices *** addition to the mass concentration,the number concentration and size distribution are also fundamental in determining the origin and hazard level of particulate ***,low-cost optical sensors have been improved to establish optical particle sizers(OPSs).In this study,a low-cost OPS,the Nova SDS029,is introduced,and it is evaluated in comparison to two reference instruments—the gRIMM 11-D and the TSI *** first tested the sizing accuracy using polystyrene latex ***,we assessed the mass and number size distribution accuracy in three application scenarios:indoor smoking,ambient air quality,and mobile *** evaluations suggest that the low-cost SDS029 rivals research-grade optical sizers in many *** example,(1)the particle diameters obtained with the SDS029 are close to the reference instruments(usuallyge;(2)the number of particles and mass concentration are highly correlated(r≥0.99)with the values obtained with the reference instruments;and(3)the SDS029 slightly underestimates the number concentration,but the derived PM_(2.5)values are closer to monitoring station than the reference *** successful application of the SDS029 in multiple scenarios suggests that a plausible particle size distribution can be obtained in an easy and cost-efficient *** believe that low-cost OPSs will increasingly be used to map the sources and risk levels of particles at the city scale.

Lanthanum promoting bone formation by regulating osteogenesis,osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis

With lanthanum(La) in agriculture, medicine, and the chemical industry, La shows accumulation in the body, especially in the bone, because of its similar structure to calcium. Moreover, La has a direct role in bone formation regulating osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Nevertheless, bone formation is complex under the regulation of osteogenesis, osteoclastogenesis, and angiogenesis in the bone microenvironment. It is difficult to comprehensively understand the regulation of bone homeostasis from a single kind of ***, some bone microenvironment-related cells and mouse calvaria culture models were used to study the regulatory effect of La-based compound-lanthanum nitrate(La(NO_(3))_(3)) on bone ***(NO_(3))_(3) has good biological safety, and the osteogenic differentiation is significantly increased under La(NO_(3))_(3) treatment for bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMMSC). In contrast, the differentiation,maturation, and bone erosion ability of osteoclasts are significantly decreased. Meanwhile, the angiogenesis ability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVEC) is significantly promoted when treated with La(NO_(3))_(3). Furthermore, bone metabolism and angiogenesis are improved under La(NO_(3))_(3) treatment in the calvaria ex vivo culture model and BMMSC-HUVEC co-culture system. These results suggest that La has the beneficial effect of promoting bone metabolism and improving bone formation in the bone microenvironment.

Paradigm for Determining the Optimal Ultradeep and Superthick Saline Aquifer for High-TDS Mine Water geological Storage

Saline aquifers are the most popular waste and CO_(2)injection and storage reservoirs *** project proposes that several optimal injection positions should be investigated as hydraulic pressure-focused positions,in order to relieve the high demands of pump *** comprehensive indices(F_(i))representing the injectivity of different burial depths were obtained by using information entropy,based on the mercury injection experimental data of 13 rock *** results demonstrated that the burial depths of No.4,No.1 and No.2 in the Liujiagou Formation were the most suitable positions for hydraulic focused injection,which means the upper 30 m thickness could be regarded as the hydraulic focused range in the saline aquifer with an average thickness of 400 *** addition,some laboratory experiments and in situ tests were carried out for the purpose of certifying and analyzing results,including SEM,XRD,brittleness index and *** results suggested that the rock samples at the No.4,No.1 and No.2 burial depth ranges have loose microstructure,weak cementation,as well as dual pores and *** lithology is mainly quartz and feldspar,but the clay mineral content is high(10%-25%),which is positive for *** lithology is suitable for hydraulic fracturing to form extended cracks and micro-fissures during high-TDS(total dissolved solids)mine water injection,because of the high brittleness ***,a theoretical and technical framework for high-TDS mine water injection was established,based on operating pilot *** theoretical defects and drawbacks learned from the field practices were summarized and solutions *** research in this study could provide guidance and a paradigm for the inexpensive treatment of high-TDS mine water by injection and storage.

Age of Information Based User Scheduling and Data Assignment in Multi-User Mobile Edge Computing Networks:An Online Algorithm

This paper investigates the age of information(AoI)-based multi-user mobile edge computing(MEC)network with partial offloading *** weighted sum AoI(WSA)is first analyzed and derived,and then a WSA minimization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing the user scheduling and data *** to the non-analytic expression of the WSA *** optimization variables and the unknowability of future network information,the problem cannot be solved with known solution ***,an online Joint Partial Offloading and User Scheduling Optimization(JPOUSO)algorithm is proposed by transforming the original problem into a single-slot data assignment subproblem and a single-slot user scheduling sub-problem and solving the two sub-problems *** analyze the computational complexity of the presented JPO-USO algorithm,which is of O(N),with N being the number of *** results show that the proposed JPO-USO algorithm is able to achieve better AoI performance compared with various baseline *** is shown that both the user’s data assignment and the user’s AoI should be jointly taken into account to decrease the system WSA when scheduling users.
