Major depressive disorder(MDD)is a disabling and highly prevalent mood disorder as well as a common cause of *** stress,inflammation,and intestinal dysbiosis have all been shown to play crucial roles in the pathophysiology of *** conventional antidepressants are widely used in the clinic,they can take weeks to months to produce therapeutic *** discovery that ketamine promotes fast and sustaining antidepressant responses is one of the most important breakthroughs in the pharmacotherapy of ***,the adverse psychomimetic/dissociative and neurotoxic effects of ketamine discourage its chronic ***,agmatine,an endogenous glutamatergic modulator,has been postulated to elicit fast behavioral and synaptogenic effects by stimulating the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 signaling pathway,similar to ***,recent evidence has demonstrated that the modulation of the NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 inflammasome and gut microbiota,which have been shown to play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of MDD,may also participate in the antidepressant-like effects of both ketamine and *** review seeks to provide evidence about the mechanisms that may underlie the fast antidepressant-like responses of agmatine in preclinical *** the anti-inflammatory properties of agmatine,it may also be further investigated as a useful compound for the management of MDD associated with a pro-inflammatory ***,the fast antidepressant-like response of agmatine noted in animal models should be investigated in clinical studies.

Kombucha is a beverage obtained by fermenting sweetened green or black tea with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts(SCOBY),which claims nutritional *** demand for kombucha increased,alternative extracts to green or black tea such as herbs,fruits,milk,agro-industrial materials started to be used in fermentation,giving rise to kombucha-like *** literature review shows that the procedure and conditions used to obtain kombucha-like beverages are similar to the traditional ***,some additional steps may be necessary to prepare the raw material for its use as an alternative to green or black tea,the main approaches being highlighted in this *** compounds(mainly phenolics)are considered one of the main attractions of kombucha due to their antioxidant *** is observed that,regardless of the extract used,the bioactive compounds(mainly phenolics)and also the antioxidant activity tend to increase during the fermentation of these ***,the use of alternative raw materials to tea for the preparation of kombucha is viable and tends to serve a wide range of products according to different regions of the *** new beverages have similar characteristics to the traditional beverage and respect the diversity of consumer market trends.

Serrated adenocarcinoma is a recently described subset of colorectal cancer(CRC),which account for about10%of all CRCs and follows an alternative pathway in which serrated polyps replace the traditional adenoma as the precursor lesion to *** polyps form a heterogeneous group of colorectal lesions that includes hyperplastic polyps(HPs),sessile serrated adenoma(SSA),traditional serrated adenoma(TSA)and mixed *** are the most common serrated polyp followed by SSA and *** distinct histogenesis is believed to have a major influence in prevention strategies,patient prognosis and therapeutic ***,serrated polyps exhibited also a distinct pattern,with KRAS and BRAF having an important contribution to its *** other molecular changes that have been implicated in the serrated pathway include microsatellite instability and the Cpg island methylator *** the present review we will address the current knowledge of serrated polyps,clinical pathological features and will update the most recent findings of its molecular *** understanding of their biology and malignancy potential is imperative to implement a surveillance approach in order to prevent colorectal cancer development.

By positioning the debate on the future of the Humanities in an international setting, this essay presents an historical and contemporary account of them in South Africa. [ In this country the Humanities and the Social Sciences are subsumed under a single （and rather imperfect ） organizational rubric ]. The argument looks at the role they played during apartheid and their influence in bringing apartheid to an end. In the post-apartheid period the Humanities have fallen on hard times with less funding and failing student numbers. In this, South Africa follows the international trend but two enquiries into the future of the Humanities have opened space for a deep conversation on their future.

Rationale: Leishmaniasis, caused by the protozoan Leishmania and transmitted by sandflies, is endemic to the tropical and subtropical areas of Brazil. It is one of the neglected tropical diseases in the world. Patient concerns: A 20-month-old indigenous infant with severe malnutrition and Down’s syndrome presented with a facial ulcer for 5 months. Diagnosis: giemsa staining of scraped ulcer tissues indicated the presence of the amastigote form of Leishmania sp., and positive Montenegro’s intradermal test helped in diagnosing the condition as cutaneous leishmaniasis. Interventions: The child was hospitalized and received intravenous treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis(1 mg/kg/day of amphotericin B). Outcomes: The condition was cured with amphotericin B(1 mg/kg/day for 14 d). Lessons: Because of infanticide practices in indigenous cultures, indigenous infants with Down’s syndrome rarely survive. Thus, no similar case has been reported in the literature.

Background:Nutrient cycling in tropical forests has a large importance for primary productivity,and decomposition of litterfall is a major process influencing nutrient balance in forest *** large-scale factors strongly influence decomposition patterns,small-scale factors can have major influences,especially in old-growth forests that have high structural complexity and strong plant-soil *** we evaluated the effects of forest structure and soil properties on decomposition rates and stabilization of soil organic matter using the Tea Bag Index(TBI)in an old-growth riparian forest in southeastern *** data sets were described separately using Principal Components Analysis(PCA).The main axes for each analysis,together with soil physical properties(clay content and soil moisture),were used to construct structural equations models that evaluated the different parameters of the TBI,decomposition rates and stabilization *** best model was selected using Akaike’s ***:Forest structure and soil physical and chemical properties presented large variation among plots within the studied *** content was strongly correlated with soil moisture and the first PCA axis of soil chemical properties,and model selection indicated that clay content was a better predictor than this *** rates presented a large variation among tea bags(0.009 and 0.098 g·g^(−1)·d−1)and were positively related with forest structure,as characterized by higher basal area,tree density and larger *** stabilization factor varied between 0.211–0.426 and was related to forest stratification and soil clay ***:The old-growth forest studied presented high heterogeneity in both forest structure and soil properties at small spatial scales,that influenced decomposition processes and probably contributed to small-scale variation in nutrient *** rates were only influenced by forest structure,whereas the stabilizat
