Beeswax is the substance that forms the structure of a honeycomb; the bees secrete wax to build the honeycombs where to store *** to its rich hydrophobic protective properties,the beeswax is in fact present within cosmetics and body ***,beeswax is used in the food industry:as a film to wrap cheese for maturing or as a food additive(E901) to give shine to the *** as the honey which it contains,beeswax is also characterized by several therapeutic properties of great interest to us; it is thought to be particularly effective in healing bruises,inflammation and ***,the interest of researchers has moved even on antimicrobial properties of beeswax although there are still few studies in the literature focused only on the action of *** few studies showed an anitimicrobic effectiveness of beeswax against overall Staphylococcus aureus,Salmonella enterica,Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger; these inhibitory effects are enhanced synergistically with other natural products such as honey or olive *** minireview aims to be a collection of major scientific works that have considered the antimicrobial activity of beeswax alone or in combination with other natural products in recent years.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of zoonotic tick-borne bacteria in feeding ticks removed from hunted wild animals. Methods: PCR was executed on DNA extracted from 77 tick pools to detect Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Bartonella spp., Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, Coxiella burnetii and Rickettsia spp. Results: A total of 432 ticks were collected: 30(6.94%) Haemaphysalis punctata, 72(16.7%) Dermacentor marginatus and 330(76.38%) Ixodes ricinus. For each animal one or two pools of 3 ticks of the same species was constituted. Seventy-seven tick pools were examined by PCR: 58(75.32%) resulted infected and among them 14(18.18%) showed co-infections. In particular, 29(37.66%) pools were positive for Bartonella spp., 23(29.87%) for Anaplasma phagocytophilum, 16(20.78%) for Rickettsia spp., and 5(6.49%) for Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. All samples were negative for Coxiella burnetii. Conclusions: The results demonstrate the presence of several zoonotic tick-borne pathogens in the studied area, and underline the risk of exposure to infections for hunters not only during the outdoor activity, but also when they manipulate hunted animals infested by infected ticks.

Thermodynamics of Materials: From Ab Initio to Phenomenology

Scoping review on vector-borne diseases in urban areas:transmission dynamics,vectorial capacity and co-infection

＜正＞Quantum mechanical-based （or ab initio） methods are used to predict the stability properties of materials although their application is limited to relatively simple systems in terms of structures and number of alloy components. However thermodynamics of complex multi-component alloys requires a more versatile approach afforded within the CALPHAD formalism. Despite its success, the lack of experimental data very often prevents the design of robust thermodynamic databases. After a brief survey of ab initio methodologies and CALPHAD, it will be shown how ab initio electronic structure methods can supplement in two ways CALPHAD for subsequent applications. The first one is rather immediate and concerns the direct input of ab initio energetics in CALPHAD databases. The other way, more involved, is the assessment of ab initio thermodynamics "a la CALPHAD". It will be shown how these results can be used within CALPHAD to predict the equilibrium properties of multi-component alloys. Finally, comments will be made on challenges and future prospects.

Background:Transmission dynamics,vectorial capacity,and co-infections have substantial impacts on vector-borne diseases(VBDs)affecting urban and suburban *** key factors can provide insight into priority research areas and offer suggestions for potential *** body:Through a scoping review,we identify knowledge gaps on transmission dynamics,vectorial capacity,and co-infections regarding VBDs in urban ***-reviewed and grey literature published between 2000 and 2016 was *** screened abstracts and full texts to select *** an extraction grid,we retrieved general data,results,lessons learned and recommendations,future research avenues,and practice *** classified studies by VBD and country/continent and identified relevant knowledge *** 773 articles selected for full-text screening,50 were included in the review:23 based on research in the Americas,15 in Asia,10 in Africa,and one each in Europe and *** largest body of evidence concerning VBD epidemiology in urban areas concerned dengue and *** arboviruses covered included chikungunya and West Nile virus,other parasitic diseases such as leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis,and bacterial rickettsiosis and *** articles retrieved in our review combined transmission dynamics and vectorial capacity;only two combined transmission dynamics and *** review identified significant knowledge gaps on the role of asymptomatic individuals,the effects of co-infection and other host factors,and the impacts of climatic,environmental,and socioeconomic factors on VBD transmission in urban *** included the trade-off from narrowing the search strategy(missing out on classical modelling studies),a lack of studies on co-infections,most studies being only descriptive,and few offering concrete public health *** research is needed on transmission risk in homes and workplaces,given increasingly dynamic and mobil

The thermodynamic quantities of metals and alloys are studied using the statistical moment method, going beyond the quasi-harmonic *** the power moments of the atomic displacements up to the fourth order,the Helmholtz free energies and the related thermodynamic quantities are derived explicitly in closed analytic *** configulational entropy term is taken into account by using the tetrahedron cluster approximation of the cluster variation method(CVM).The liquid phases of bcc(TaW and TaMo)alloys are also investigated within the framework of statistical moment method combined with the molecular dynamics *** energetics of the binary(Ta-W and Mo-Ta)alloys are treated within the framework of the first-principles TB-LMTO method coupled to CPA and gPM (generalized perturbation method).The equilibrium phase diagrams are calculated for the refractory Ta-W and Ta-Mo bcc alloys.
