Machining of shape memory alloys(SMAs)without losing the shape memory effect could immensely extend their ***,the wire electric discharge machining process was used to machine NiTi—a shape memory *** experimental methodology was designed using a Box-Behnken design approach of the response surface *** effects of input variables including pulse on time,pulse off time,and current were investigated on the material removal rate,surface roughness,and *** tests were performed to check the robustness of the generated empirical *** of the process parameters was performed using a newly formulated,highly efficient heat transfer search *** tests were conducted and extended for analyzing the retention of the shape memory effect of the machined surface by differential scanning *** addition,2D and 3D pareto curves were generated that indicated the trade-offs between the selected output variables during the simultaneous output variables using the multi-objective heat transfer search *** optimization route yielded encouraging *** objective optimization yielded a maximum material removal rate of 1.49 mm^(3)/s,maximum microhardness 462.52 HVN,and minimum surface roughness 0.11μ*** pareto curves showed conflicting effects during the wire electric discharge machining of the shape memory alloy and presented a set of optimal non-dominant *** shape memory alloy machined using the optimized process parameters even indicated a shape memory effect similar to that of the starting base material.

Residue recycling options and their implications for sustainable nitrogen management in rice-wheat agroecosystems

Background In the Indo-gangetic plain,rice-wheat is the most extensively practiced crop *** escalating issue of crop residue burning,particularly rice straw,and the necessity to lower the exorbitant expenses associated with fertilizer inputs stand out as significant challenges for farmers in the region.A well-suited integrated nutrient management(INM)strategy that focuses on recycling crop residues can serve as a solution to address these *** a strategy not only mitigates air pollution resulting from residue burning but also helps combat water pollution due to nitrate losses from *** experiments were used to evaluate the suitability of eight INM-modules that included various combinations of inorganic fertilizer rates(50%,100%,150%of recommended dose),crop residues(wheat and rice stubble retention at 30 cm standing stubble equivalent to 1/3 the straw yield),rice straw compost(RSC),farmyard manure(FYM),and green manuring(gM),compared to 100%recommended dose of fertilizers(F)and no fertilizer *** There was a considerable improvement in nitrogen mineralization,grain yields,and nitrogen use efficiency under gM+RSC-F50 and gM+*** INM modules would permit a 50%reduction in the use of chemical *** was a little yield penalty with in situ rice residue incorporation at 100%F;however,this could be overcome with 150%F fertilizer *** situ retention of wheat straw with a full application of fertilizer resulted in steadily rising crop yields over *** in the redox potential,soil pH,and soil organic carbon best accounted for the observed trajectories in nitrogen use *** The most promising INM modules for adoption by farmers in the Indo-gangetic plain to judiciously use crop residues and curtail chemical fertilizer inputs are green manuring with Sesbania aculeata+rice straw compost at 5 t ha^(−1)+only 50%of recommended dose of fertilizers(gM+RSC-F50),and green manuring with

Osteotendinous Suturing for Anchorage of Medial Arthrotomy in Total Knee Arthroplasty

Aim: To develop a method for closure of the arthrotomy wound and approximation of the medial periosteum at the level of tibial tuberosity after total knee arthroplasty in severe varus deformity. Method: We describe a technique of osteotendinous suturing through the tibial tuberosity for suturing of the medially elevated periosteum. Result: This is an easily reproducible technique which results in very early mobilisation and no additional complications and has several advantages over other methods of closure. Conclusion: The osteotendinous technique can be used for medial arthrotomy closure after correction of severe varus deformities and also after partial patellar tendon avulsions in total knee arthroplasty surgeries.

Synthesis and Characterization of Struvite-k Crystals by Agar gel

The phosphate mineral struvite is basically formed in urinary tracks and kidney. One of the analogous compounds of struvite is potassium magnesium phosphate hexahydrate (KMgpO4·6H2O), known as struvite-k crystal and found in animal urinary calculi. In the present investigation, struvite-k crystals were grown by single diffusion and double diffusion techniques in agar gelmedium. The grown crystals were analyzed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TgA). Optical microscopy and SEM exhibited the different morphologies. The FTIR spectra revealed the presence of water molecules, stretching and bending vibrations of phosphate (pO4) ions. However the powder XRD results from the crystalline nature. Elemental composition in the crystal was obtained by EDXA, while 36.89% weight loss of water molecules is observed in TgA study.

Restoring Natural Hip Movements with Large Head (Ceramic on Ceramic) Total Hip Replacement: Experience of Our 150 patients over 6 Years

Background: Asian cultures require floor-seated positions demanding a high range of motion (ROM). Ceramic-On-Ceramic (COC) interface allowed the use of larger head with reduced wear debris generation and adverse tissue reactions. This study was conducted to analyze 6-year clinical-radiological outcome with large head fourth generation DeltaMotion®ceramic-on-ceramic (COC) hip articulation, with special emphasis on postoperative ROM, ability to sit cross-legged, stability, hip noise and revision surgery. Material and Methods: 150 consecutive hips were operated for primary cementless Total Hip Replacement (THR) using DeltaMotion®at a tertiary care center in Mumbai, India, between January 2010 and January 2015. Clinico-radiological outcome was assessed using the Harris Hip Score (HHS) and radiographs at 6 weeks, 6 months, and annually thereafter. Results: 108 (74.5%) patients were males and 37 (25.5%) were females with an average age of 50.87 years. Mean follow-up was 54 months (range: 37 - 86 months). The mean ROM was 120° in flexion, 10° in extension, 30° in adduction, 45° in abduction, 25° in internal rotation and 25° in external rotation. The mean HHS showed a statistically significant improvement of 64.5% (from 54.66 ± 6.42 pre-operatively to 89.95 ± 4.32 post operatively) (p-value: 0.001). 92% of patients were able to sit in squatting position and 92% were able to sit cross-legged on the floor at last follow-up. 0.7% joints (1 hip) had squeaking. Considering no revision surgery as the end point, 6-year prosthesis survivorship was 100%. Complications (superficial infection) occurred in three hips (2%). All patients reported to be satisfied with their outcome after surgery. Conclusion: We infer that DeltaMotion large head COC bearing allows scope for using larger head size in relatively smaller Indian hips due to factory fitted ceramic lining. The Information and Communication Technologies play an important role in rural development. The Empowerment of rural communities is crucial for the development of the rural region. Bringing the people in the rural region in the mainstream of the digital technologies to access and adopt modern technologies is a major concern now. Rural Development implies both, the economic development of the people and greater social transformation using electronic governance (e-governance). In order to provide the rural people in Maharashtra with better prospects and opportunities for economic development, agricultural development and management, marketing management, increased participation of rural people in usage and adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is envisaged. This paper aims to explore the nature, role and relevance of the Electronic/Digital governance using ICTs and wireless technologies for agriculture and rural development in the rural regions. It also aims to study the impact of e-governance on rural development and methods for improving local environmental governance having regard particularly to the range of interests and actors involved in e-governance. The paper examines the current status of electronic governance in Jalgaon district in India. It focuses on development of the model using ICTs/wireless technologies for e-governance of Jalgaon district in Maharashtra state, India.

The relevance of serum albumin among elderly patients with acute decompensated heart failure

Objective To assess the prognostic utility of serum albumin among elderly patients admitted for acute decompensated heart failure(ADHF)in terms of all-cause mortality and also to identify the predictors of *** Retrospective cohort study of 119 elderly patients admitted for *** patients were defined as patients over the age of 65 *** patients were followed up for approximately 11 *** with advanced renal failure,liver disease not due to HF,cancer and other causes of low life expectancy were *** was defined as serum albumin≤2.9 g/*** The study was made up of 65 females and 54 males with age ranging from 65 to 96 *** the 119 elderly patients with ADHF,there were 26 deaths.A significantly higher proportion of patients in the mortality group had an admission serum albumin level of≤2.9 g/dL than those surviving(p=0.011).After Cox’s logistic regression,low albumin(p=0.016),elevated direct bilirubin(p=0.03),age greater than 85(p=0.008),lack of use of beta blockers(p=0.0001)and left ventricular ejection fraction less than 35%(p=0.005)increased the risk of *** serum creatinine(p=0.0357)was the only predictor of hypoalbuminemia following multiple linear *** Hypoalbuminemia may be an unrecognized marker of death in elderly patients with ADHF.
