Every day walking consists of frequent voluntary modifications in the gait pattern to negotiate *** spinal cord injury,stepping over an obstacle becomes *** over an obstacle requires sensorimotor transformations in several structures of the brain,including the parietal cortex,premotor cortex,and motor *** information and planning are transformed into motor commands,which are sent from the motor cortex to spinal neuronal circuits to alter limb trajectory,coordinate the limbs,and maintain *** spinal cord injury,bidirectional communication between the brain and spinal cord is disrupted and animals,including humans,fail to voluntarily modify limb trajectory to step over an ***,in this review,we discuss the neuromechanical control of stepping over an obstacle,why it fails after spinal cord injury,and how it recovers to a certain extent.

Population genetics studies are widely recognized for generating useful knowledge for biodiversity *** date,however,little is known about the levels and distribution of genetic diversity of Drymis brasiliensis(Miers LC),a tree species from the Atlantic ***,in this study,we investigated how genetic diversity is distributed within and among populations of *** from southern Brazil using allozyme markers to genotype reproductive trees(8 populations)and seedlings(3 populations).Furthermore,in two populations,we established two permanent plots(5.1 and 1 ha)to analyze fine-scale genetic structure(FSgS).Studied populations presented low levels of genetic diversity(reproductive=0.085;seedlings=0.054)and high fixation indexes(reproductive=0.396;seedlings=0.231).genetic divergence among populations was equal to 0.05,which is significant,signaling that few populations can conserve large portions of the species total genetic *** was only detected for one population,when reproductive individuals were separated by less than40 *** genetic diversity combined with high fixation indexes clearly signal a risk of losing ***,conservation efforts should be aimed at enhancing gene flow within the studied populations.

Diversity and composition of lepidopteran microbiotas are poorly investigated, especially across the different developmental stages. To improve this knowledge, we characterize the microbiota among different developmental stages of the Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella, which is considered one of the major pest of commodities world-wide. Using culture-independent approach based on Illumina 16S rRNA gene sequencing we characterized the microbiota of four developmental stages: eggs, first-, and last-instar larvae, and adult. A total of 1022 bacterial OTUs were obtained, showing a quite diversified microbiota associated to all the analyzed stages. The microbiotas associated with P. interpunctella resulted almost constant throughout the developmental stages, with approximately 77% of bacterial OTUs belonging to the phylum of Proteobacteria. The dominant bacterial genus is represented by Burkholderia (?64%), followed by Propionibacterium, Delftia, Pseudomonas, and Stenotrophomonas. A core bacterial community, composed of 139 OTUs, was detected in all the developmental stages, among which 112 OTUs were assigned to the genus Burkholderia. A phylogenetic reconstruction, based on the 16S rRNA, revealed that our Burkholderia OTUs clustered with Burkholderia cepacia complex, in the same group of those isolated from the hemipterans gossyparia spuria and Acanthococcus aceris. The functional profiling, predicted on the base of the bacterial 16S rRNA, indicates differences in the metabolic pathways related to metabolism of amino acids between preimaginal and adult stages. We can hypothesize that bacteria may support the insect host during preimaginal stages.

The Cryptocephalus marginellus （Coleoptera： Chrysomelidae） complex is composed by six species that are supposed to have originated by events of allo- or parapatric speciation. In the present study we investigated the altemative hypotheses that the bacterial communities associated with six populations of this species complex are shaped by environmental factors, or reflect the proposed pattern of speciation. The microbiota associated with the six populations, from five species of the complex, have been characterized through 16S rRNA pyrotag sequencing. Based on a 97% sequence similarity threshold, data were clustered into 381 OTUs, which were analyzed using a variety of diversity indices. The microbiota of C. acquitanus and C. marginellus （Calanques） were the most diverse （over 100 OTUs）, while that from C. zoiai yielded less bacterial diversity （45 OTUs）. Taxonomic assignment revealed Proteobacteria, Tenericutes and Firmicutes as the dominant components of these beetles＇ microbiota. The most abtmdant genera were Ralstonia, Sphingomonas, Rickettsia, and Pseudomonas. Different strains of Rickettsia were detected in C. eridani and C. renatae. The analysis of β-diversity revealed high OTU turnover among the populations of C. marginellus complex, with only few shared species. Hierarchical clustering taking into account relative abundances of OTUs does not match the phylogeny of the beetles, therefore we hypothesize that factors other than phylogenetic constraints play a role in shaping the insects＇ microbiota. Environmental factors that could potentially affect the composition of bacterial communities were tested by fitting them on the results of a multi-dimensional scaling analysis. No significant correlations were observed towards the geographic distances or the host plants, while the composition of the microbiota appeared associated with altitude. Although surgical resection is still the optimal treatment option for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in patients with well compensated cirrhosis,thermal ablation techniques provide a valid nonsurgical treatment alternative,thanks to their minimal invasiveness,excellent tolerability and safety profile,proven efficacy in local disease control,virtually unlimited repeatability and *** energy sources are currently employed in clinics as physical agents for percutaneous or intra-surgical thermal ablation of HCC *** them,radiofrequency(RF) currents are the most used,while microwave ablations(MWA) are becoming increasingly *** from the 90s',RF ablation(RFA) rapidly became the standard of care in ablation,especially in the treatment of small HCC nodules;however,RFA exhibits substantial performance limitations in the treatment of large lesions and/or tumors located near major heat ***,first introduced in the Far Eastern clinical practice in the 80s',showing promising results but also severe limitations in the controllability of the emitted field and in the high amount of power employed for the ablation of large tumors,resulting in a poor coagulative performance and a relatively high complication rate,nowadays shows better results both in terms of treatment controllability and of overall coagulative performance,thanks to the improvement of *** this review we provide an extensive and detailed overview of the key physical and technical aspects of MWA and of the currently available systems,and we want to discuss the most relevant published data on MWA treatments of HCC nodules in regard to clinical results and to the type and rate of complications,both in absolute terms and in comparison with RFA.

The control program of codling moth （Cydia pomonella L.） in the Rio Negro and Neuqu6n Valley is intended to neonate larvae. However, adults may be subjected to sublethal pesticide concentrations generating stress which might enhance both mutation rates and activity of the detoxification system. This study assessed the exposure effects of chlorpyrifos on target enzyme and, both detoxifying and antioxidant systems of surviving adults from both a laboratory susceptible strain （LSS） and a field population （FP）. The results showed that the FP was as susceptible to chlorpyrifos as the LSS and, both exhibited a similar chlorpyrifos-inhibitory concentration 50 （IC50） of acetylcholinesterase （ACHE）. The FP displayed higher carboxylesterase （CarE） and 7-ethoxycoumarine O-deethylase （ECOD） activities than LSS. Both LSS and FP showed an increase on CarE activity after the exposure to low-chlorpyrifos concentrations, followed by enzyme inhibition at higher concentrations. There were no significant differences neither in the activities of glutathione S-transferases （gST）, catalase （CAT） and superoxide dismutase （SOD） nor in the reduced glutathione （gSH） content between LSS and FP. Moreover, these enzymes were unaffected by chlorpyrifos. In conclusion, control adults from the FP exhibited higher CarE and ECOD activities than control adults from the LSS. AChE and CarE activities were the most affected by chlorpyrifos. Control strategies used for C. pomonella, such as rotations of insecticides with different modes of action, will probably delay the evolution of insecticide resistance in FPs from the study area.
