Pentachlorophenol degradation by Pseudomonas stutzeri CL7 in the secondary sludge of pulp and paper mill

A pentachlorophenol （PCP） mineralizing bacterium was isolated from the secondary sludge of pulp and paper mill and identified as Pseudomonas stutzeri strain CL7. This isolate used PCP as its sole source of carbon and energy and was capable of degrading this compound as indicated by stoichiometric release of chloride and biomass formation. P. stutzeri （CL7） was able to mineralize a high concentration of PCP （600 mg/L） than any previously reported Pseudomonad with PCP as sole carbon source. As the concentration of PCP increased from 50 to 600 mg/L, the reduction in the cell growth was observed and the PCP degradation was more than 90% in all studied concentrations. This isolate was able to remove 66.8% of PCP from the secondary sludge of pulp and paper mill when supplemented with 100 mg/L of PCP and grown for two weeks. This study showed that the removal efficiency of PCP by CL7 was found to be very effective and can be used in PCP remediation of pulp paper mill waste in the environment.

Synthesis of novel 3-aryl-5-（3,5-dimethylisoxazol-4-yl）-2,3,5,6-tetrahydrobenzo[g][1,3,5],oxadiazocine-4-thiones 5 has been accomplished from 3,5-dimethylisoxazol-4-amine 1 by condensation with salicylaldehydes, followed by reduction, treatment with aryl isothiocyanates and subsequent smooth ring closure via acetal formation in the presence of formaldehyde.

Friction stir welding(FSW) is a promising welding process that can join age hardenable aluminium alloys with high joint efficiency. However,the thermal cycles experienced by the material to be joined during FSW resulted in the deterioration of mechanical properties due to the coarsening and dissolution of strengthening precipitates in the thermo-mechanical affected zone(TmAZ) and heat affected zone(HAZ). Under water friction stir welding(UWFSW) is a variant of FSW process which can maintain low heat input as well as constant heat input along the weld line. The heat conduction and dissipation during UWFSW controls the width of TmAZ and HAZ and also improves the joint properties. In this investigation, an attempt has been made to evaluate the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of AA2519-T87 aluminium alloy joints made by FSW and UWFSW processes. Finite element analysis has been used to estimate the temperature distribution and width of TmAZ region in both the joints and the results have been compared with experimental results and subsequently correlated with mechanical properties.? 2016 China Ordnance Society. Power system planning is a capital intensive investment-decision problem. The majority of the conven- tional planning conducted since the last half a century has been based on the least cost approach, keeping in view the optimization of cost and reliability of power supply. Recently, renewable energy sources have found a niche in power system planning owing to concerns arising from fast depletion of fossil fuels, fuel price volatility as well as global climatic changes. Thus, power system planning is under-going a paradigm shift to incorporate such recent technologies. This paper assesses the impact of renewable sources using the portfolio theory to incorporate the effects of fuel price volatility as well as CO2 emissions. An optimization framework using a robust multi-objective evolutionary algorithm, namely NSgA-II, is developed to obtain Pareto optimal solutions. The performance of the proposed approach is assessed and illustrated using the Indian power system considering real-time design prac- tices. The case study for Indian power system validates the efficacy of the proposed methodology as developing countries are also increasing the investment in green energy to increase awareness about clean energy technologies.

In the present work,multi walled carbon nanotubes(mWCNT)reinforced magnesium(mg.m.trix composite was fabricated by friction stir processing(FSP)with an aim to explore its mechanical and electrochemical *** observations showed that the thickness of the produced composite layer was in the range of 2500μ*** resulted uniform distribution of CNT near the surface while agglomerated layers in the *** refinement of mg achieved by FSP improved the hardness but significant enhancement in the hardness value was observed for FSPed mWCNT/mg *** polarization studies revealed that the increase in corrosion current density was observed for mWCNT/mg composite compared with grain refined mg and pure mg,implying the significance of secondary phase(mWCNT)in decreasing the corrosion resistance of the composite.

The aim of this paper is to observe the Nusselt number and friction factor behavior of the circular tube with conical strip inserts as turbulators in a laminar flow condition, using staggered and non-staggered conical strips with three different twist ratios （Y = 2, 3 and 5）. The conical strip is inserted in the forward and backward direction individually compared to the flow of water which is the working fluid. The results indicate that the conical strip inserts increases the Nusselt number when compared to the plain surface tube. It is observed that the strip geometry has a major effect on the thermal performance of the circular tube. On examination of different strips for determining the enhancement of Nusselt number, the staggered conical strip with the twist ratio of Y = 3 has given a better result compared to the other two strips. Finally, correlations have been derived using regression analysis for predicting the Nusselt number and friction factor.

The Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System program,which uses the moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(Cm),has been updated with the launch of new satellites and the availability of newly upgraded radiation *** spatial and temporal variability of daily averaged synoptic 1-degree Cm version 3(Cmv3)(old)and version 4(Cmv4)(new)downwelling shortwave(QS)and longwave radiation(QL)data in the global tropical oceans spanning 30°S-30°N from 2000 to 2017 is *** in situ data from the global Tropical moored Buoy Array were used to validate the Cm data from 2000 to *** compared to Cmv3,both QS and QL in Cmv4 show significant improvements in bias,root-mean-square error,and standard ***,a long-term trend analysis shows that QS has been increasing by 1 W m^(−2) per year in the Southern *** contrast,the Northern Hemisphere has a−0.7 W m^(−2) annual decreasing *** and QL exhibit similar spatial trend ***,in the Indian Ocean,Indo-Pacific warm pool region,and Southern Hemisphere,QL spatial patterns in Cmv3 and Cmv4 differ with an opposite trend(0.5 W m^(−2)).These annual trends in QS and QL could cause the sea surface temperature to change by−0.2 to 0.3℃per year in the tropical *** results stress the importance of accurate radiative flux data,and Cmv4 can be an alternative to reanalysis or other model-simulated data.

Cyber-physical systems(CPSs)in critical infrastructure face serious threats of attack,motivating research into a wide variety of defence mechanisms such as those that monitor for violations of invariants,*** properties over sensor and actuator states that should always be *** approaches for identifying invariants attempt to do so automatically,typically using data logs,but these can miss valid system properties if relevant behaviours are not well-represented in the ***,as the CPS is already built,resolving any design flaws or weak points identified through this process is *** this paper,we propose a systematic method for deriving invariants from an analysis of a CPS design,based on principles of the axiomatic design methodology from design *** method iteratively decomposes a high-level CPS design to identify sets of dependent design parameters(*** and actuators),allowing for invariants and invariant checkers to be derived in parallel to the implementation of the *** apply our method to the designs of two CPS testbeds,SWaT and WADI,deriving a suite of invariant checkers that are able to detect a variety of single-and multi-stage attacks without any false ***,we reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of our approach,how it can be complemented by other defence mechanisms,and how it could help engineers to identify and resolve weak points in a design before the controllers of a CPS are implemented.
