In this paper, we present the construction of purely algebraic Daubechies wavelet based preconditioners for Krylov subspace iterative methods to solve linear sparse system of equations. Effective preconditioners are designed with DWTPermod algorithm by knowing size of the matrix and the order of Daubechies wavelet. A notable feature of this algorithm is that it enables wavelet level to be chosen automatically making it more robust than other wavelet based preconditioners and avoids user choosing a level of transform. We demonstrate the efficiency of these preconditioners by applying them to several matrices from Tim Davis collection of sparse matrices for restarted gmRES.

Background/Aim: Islet regeneration in chronic pancreatitis (CP) is relevant for managing the associated loss of endocrine function. Because ductal epithelial cells were earlier demonstrated to differentiate into pancreatic endocrine mass, we evaluated their proliferation and differentiation in chronic pancreatitis. methods: Pancreatic ducts were obtained from surgically resected pancreata of 12 patients with chronic pancreatitis and 15 control subjects. CK19 positive ductal cells were evaluated for their proliferating and differentiating abilities upon immunostaining with Ki 67 and hormone positivity for insulin and glucagon, apart from monitoring Pdx 1 expression. Results: In comparison to the controls, a greater number of proliferating pancreatic ductal epithelial cells (PDECs) were observed under conditions of CP. The increase in Pdx1 expressing PDECs (22%) and proliferating Pdx1 expressing PDECs (30%) was significant (P mber of cells expressing insulin/glucagon in the exocrine ducts increased significantly in CP as compared to controls (P ?β?cell mass adjacent to the ducts increased by 28%.?Conclusion: Enhanced capability of PDECs to proliferate and differentiate into endocrine mass suggests that PDECs form a source of progenitors for cell based therapy in chronic pancreatitis.

In this article algebraic multigrid as preconditioners are designed, with biorthogonal wavelets, as intergrid operators for the Krylov subspace iterative methods. Construction of hierarchy of matrices in algebraic multigrid context is based on lowpass filter version of Wavelet Transform. The robustness and efficiency of this new approach is tested by applying it to large sparse, unsymmetric and ill-conditioned matrices from Tim Davis collection of sparse matrices. Proposed preconditioners have potential in reducing cputime, operator complexity and storage space of algebraic multigrid V-cycle and meet the desired accuracy of solution compared with that of orthogonal wavelets.

BACKgROUND： Effective pain manag.m.nt among hospitalized patients is an important aspect of providing quality care and achieving optimal clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. Common pharmacologic approaches for pain, though effective, have serious side effects and are not appropriate for all inpatients. Findings from randomized controlled trials（RCTs） support the efficacy of acupuncture for many symptoms relevant to inpatients including postoperative pain, cancer-related pain, nausea and vomiting, and withdrawal from narcotic use. However, the extent to which findings from RCTs translate to real-world implementation of acupuncture in typical hospital settings is unknown. mETHODS/DESIgN： In partnership with the launch of a clinical program offering acupuncture services to inpatients at the University of California San Francisco’s mount Zion Hospital, we are conducting a pilot study using a hybrid effectiveness-implementation design to：（1） assess the effectiveness of acupuncture to manage pain and other symptoms and improve patient satisfaction; and（2） evaluate the barriers and facilitators to implementing an on-going acupuncture service for inpatients. During a twomonth pre-randomization phase, we evaluated and adapted clinical scheduling and treatment protocols with acupuncturists and hospital providers and pretested study procedures including enrollment, consent, and data collection. During a six-month randomization phase, we used a two-tiered consent process in which inpatients were first consented into a study of symptom manag.m.nt, randomized to be offered acupuncture, and consented for acupuncture if they accepted. We are also conducting in-depth interviews and focus groups to assess evidence, context, and facilitators of key provider and hospital administration ***： Effectiveness research in ＂real-world＂ practice settings is needed to inform clinical decision-making and guide implementation of evidence-based acupuncture practices. We propose and demonstrate a Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser （EDFL） using an erbium-doped zirconia-alumina silica glass-based fiber （Zr-EDF） as a saturable absorber. As a 16-cm-long Zr-EDF is incorporated into a ring EDFL cavity, a stable Q-switching pulse train operating at 1565？nm wavelength is successfully obtained. The repetition rate is tunable from 33.97？kHz to 71.23？kHz by increasing the pump power from the threshold of 26？mW to the maximum of 74？mW. The highest pulse energy of 26.67？nJ is obtained at the maximum pump power.

Here we demonstrate the fabrication, electrochemical performance and application of an asymmetric supercapacitor (AS) device constructed with ss-Ni(OH)(2)/mWCNTs as positive electrode and KOH activated honeycomb-like porous carbon (K-PC) derived from banana fibers as negative electrode. Initially, the electrochemical performance of hydrothermally synthesized ss-Ni(OH)(2)/mWCNTs nanocomposite and K-PC was studied in a three-electrode system using 1 m KOH. These materials exhibited a specific capacitance (Cs) of 1327 Fig and 324 F/g respectively at a scan rate of 10 mV/s. Further, the AS device i.e., ss-Ni(OH)(2)/mWCNTs// K-PC in 1 m KOH solution, demonstrated a Cs of 156 F/g at scan rate of 10 mV/s in a broad cell voltage of 0-2.2 V. The device demonstrated a good rate capability by maintaining a Cs of 59 F/g even at high current density (25 A/g). The device also offered high energy density of 63 Wh/kg with maximum power density of 5.2 kW/kg. The AS device exhibited excellent cycle life with 100% capacitance retention at 5000th cycle at a high current density of 25 A/g. Two AS devices connected in series were employed for powering a pair of LEDs of different colors and also a mini fan.
