Status Report on Organo-Metallic Beams at gANIL

Previous experiments with organo-metallic compounds like ferrocene,nickelocene and magnesocene showed that a pure spectrum must be obtained on the residual gas mass analyser before running successfully on the ion *** collaboration with the chemistry department of the University of Caen,LCMT-ENSI Caen,the synthesis of these metallocene compounds has been studied to provide enriched isotopic compounds to gANIL’s *** chemical transformation yields were 90%,80% and 43%,***, chromocene,colbatocene and ruthenocene compounds have first been studied with a gas mass analyser and then successfully tested on the ECR 4M ion source at *** 15eμA of ^(51)V^(11+),20eμA of ^(52)Cr^(11+), 22eμA of 59Co^(11+),and 17eμA of ^(102)Ru^(11+) were *** comparison between the results obtained on the gas mass analyser and the ion beams provided by the source has allowed us to validate this method of determining whether or not an organo-metallic compound could be a candidate for running on our ECR ion *** the ECR ion sources are tuned and used alternately on the gANIL injectors,the available time for the tests is rare,so this method could be an alternative for the validation of new compounds.

ECRIS’s dedicated to radioactive ion production must be as efficient as those used for production of stable elements,but in addition they are subject to more specific constraints such as radiation hardness, short atom-to-ion transformation time,beam purity and low *** to now,different target/ion-source systems(TISSs)have been designed,using singly-charged ECRISs,multi-charged ion sources or an association of singly-to-multi-charged *** main goals,constraints and advantages of different existing ECR setups will be compared before a more detailed description is given of the one designed for the SPIRALⅡproject and its future improvements.

An Hybrid Model for Rectal Tumour Response Prediction during Radiotherapy

A hybrid model is proposed in this study to predict rectal tumour response during radiotherapy treatment. As the oxygen partial pressure distribution (pO2) is a data which is naturally represented at the microscopic scale, we firstly estimate the optimal pO2 distribution using both a diffusion equation and a discrete multi-scale model (that we proposed in a previous study). The aim is to use the effectiveness in algorithmic complexity of the discrete model and its multi-scale aspect in this work to estimate biological information at cellular scale and then construct them at macroscopic scale. Secondly, the obtained pO2 distribution results are used as an input of a biomechanical model in order to simulate tumour volume evolution during radiotherapy. FDg PET images of 21 rectal cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy are used to simulate the tumour evolution during the treatment. The simulated results using the proposed hybride model, allow the interpretation of tumour aggressiveness.

Eight extant species of pangolins are currently recognized. Recent studies found that two mitochondrial haplotypes identified in confiscations in Hong Kong could not be assigned to any known pangolin species, implying the existence of a previously unrecognized species. Here, we report that two additional mitochondrial haplotypes identified in independent confiscations from Yunnan align to the potential new species haplotypes, supporting the existence of this mysterious species/population. To verify the new species scenario, we performed a comprehensive analysis of scale characteristics and 138 whole genomes representing all recognized pangolin species and the cryptic new species, 98 of which were generated here. Our morphometric results clearly attributed this cryptic species to Asian pangolins(Manis sp.), and the genomic data provide robust and compelling evidence that it is a pangolin species distinct from those recognized previously, which separated from Philippine pangolin and Malayan pangolin over five million years ago. Our study provides a solid genomic basis for its formal recognition as the ninth pangolin species and the fifth Asian one, supporting a new taxonomic classification of pangolins. The effects of glacial climate changes and recent human activities driven by illegal trade are inferred to have caused its population decline with the genomic signatures showing low genetic diversity, a high level of inbreeding, and high genetic load. Our discovery greatly expands current knowledge of pangolin diversity and evolution, and has vital implications for conservation efforts to prevent the extinction of this enigmatic and endangered species from the wild.
