Cereal type and combined xylanase/glucanase supplementation influence the cecal microbiota composition in broilers

Dietary fiber-degrading enzyme supplementation in broilers aims at off-setting the anti-nutritive effect of non-starch polysaccharides and at promoting broiler ***,we demonstrated that xylanase/glucanase addition in wheat-based diet improved nutrient digestibility,arabinoxylan fermentability and broiler ***,maize arabinoxylan was found to be recalcitrant to xylanase *** findings suggested that enzyme-mediated improvement of nutrient digestion and carbohydrate fermentation depended on the cereal type present in the diet,and may have contributed to broiler ***,we aimed at further investigating the link between dietary enzymes and carbohydrate fermentation in broilers,by studying the impact of enzyme supplementation in cereal-based diets,to the microbial communities in the ileum and ceca of *** that purpose,96 one-day-old male broilers were randomly reared in two pens and received either wheat-based or maize-based starter and grower *** d 20,the broilers were randomly assigned to one out of four dietary *** broilers received for 8 d the wheat-based or maize-based finisher diet as such(Control treatments;WC,MC)or supplemented with a xylanase/glucanase combination(Enzyme treatments;WE,ME).At d 28,samples from the digestive tract were collected,and the ileal and cecal microbiota composition was determined by 16s ribosomal RNA gene amplicon sequencing.A similar phylogenetic(alpha)diversity was observed among the four treatments,both in the ileal and the cecal ***,a similar microbial composition in the ileum(beta diversity)was observed,with lactobacilli being the predominant community for all *** contrast,both cereal type and enzyme supplementation were found to influence cecal *** type of cereal(i.e.,wheat or maize)explained 47% of the total variation in microbial composition in the *** stratifying the analysis per cereal type revealed differences in microbio

Marine mammals undergo cycles of tissue ischemia and reperfusion during the dive *** injury can result in oxidative tissue damage and the activation of a pro-inflammatory immune *** risk of oxidative damage is reduced by *** hypothesis is that the reported higher antioxidant defenses within marine mammal tissues provide additional protection in situations that produce oxidative stress,like inflammation,in comparison to terrestrial mammal *** were isolated from the whole blood of Pacific bottlenose dolphins(Tursiops truncatus gilli)and humans(Homo sapiens)and were exposed to lipopolysaccharides(LPs,10μg/mL)in vitro to simulate a pro-inflammatory *** stress indicators,including superoxide radical(O_(2)^(•−))production,activities of superoxide dismutase(sOD),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(gPx),glutathione reductase(gR),and glutathione s-transferase(gsT),as well as oxidative protein damage,were quantified by *** 48 h under experimental conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes produced 1.9 times more O_(2)^(•−)but displayed 2.0 times lower protein carbonyl concentrations compared to human *** 48 h under experimental conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes displayed 7.9,2.0,11.1,and 3.3 times more activities of CAT,gPx,gR,and gsT,respectively,compared to human *** results suggest that,under cell culture conditions,the antioxidant defenses in bottlenose dolphin leukocytes provide additional protection against pro-inflammatory challenges in comparison to human leukocytes,likely as an adaptive advantage.

New Indicators of the Technological Impact of scientific Production

Purpose:Building upon pioneering work by Francis Narin and others,a new methodological approach to assessing the technological impact of scientific research is ***/methodology/approach:It is based on the analysis of citations made in patent families included in the PATsTAT database that is to scientific papers indexed in ***:An advanced citation matching procedure is applied to the data in order to construct two indicators of technological impact:on the citing(patent)side,the country/region in which protection is sought and a patent family’s propensity to cite scientific papers are taken into account,and on the cited(paper)side,a relative citation rate is defined for patent citations to papers that is similar to the scientific paper-to-paper citation rate in classical *** limitations:The results are limited by the available data,in our case scopus and PATsTAT,and especially by the lack of standardization of references in *** required a matching procedure that is neither trivial nor *** implications:Results at the country/region,document type,and publication age levels are *** country/region-level results in particular reveal features that have remained hidden in analyses of straight *** notable is that the rankings of some Asian countries/regions move upwards when the proposed normalized indicator of technological impact is applied as against the case with straight counts of patent citations to those countries/regions’published ***/value:In our opinion,the level of sophistication of the indicators proposed in the current paper is unparalleled in the scientific literature,and provides a solid basis for the assessment of the technological impact of scientific research in countries/regions and institutions.

Modified RNA with a Phosphate-Methylated Backbone. A serious Omission in Our (Retracted) study at HIV-1 RNA Loops and Integrated DNA. specific Properties of the (Modified) RNA and DNA Dimers

After the recent publication in the Journal of Biophysical Chemistry entitled “Retracted HIV study Provides New Information about the status of the in Vitro Inhibition of DNA Replication by Back-bone Methylation”, it is of importance to review the results of Buck’s group on the synthesis and conformation analyses of phosphate-methylated RNAs in order to afford information on the absence of a further investigation with regard to this de facto acceptable approach. In fact these compounds belong to the very first group of RNAs with a modified neutral backbone by phosphatemethylation. In contrast to the corresponding phosphate-methylated DNAs with a frozen B-conformation, the phosphate-methylated RNAs show an A-conformation. The latter is a prerequisite for duplex formation with (complementary) (natural) RNA. A number of experiments support this fundamental statement. After the HIV study was retracted, the overall results concerning the phosphate-methylated RNAs were published without mentioning Buck’s initial proof of concept and his contributions. generally, the (modified) dimer RNAs and DNAs possess a number of specific biophysical properties. A novel explanation is given for conflicting structural determinations.

One-Electron-Addition to Pentavalent Phosphorus with the Phosphorus-Chlorine Bond as Acceptor Introducing a Fundamental Distinction in substitution Mechanism between s<sub>N</sub>2(P) and s<sub>N</sub>2(C)

An electron-addition, under single-crystal conditions, to pentavalent phosphorus compounds as Cl-P (=O, s) Y, Z with the P-Cl bond as electron-accepting group, is selected as an additional model for sN2(P) like reactions. It is demonstrated that the geometric information stored in the tetrahedral configuration (substrate) can be transmitted in the corresponding trigonal bipyramidal (TBP) state for nucleophilic substitution. In this article, we focus on these specific mechanistic aspects of carbon and phosphorus. We consider our study as a contribution to the significance of these (bio)chemical intermediates.
