The linear Rayleig.-Bénard electro-convective stability of the Newtonian dielectric liquid is determined theoretically subject to the temperature modulation with time.A perturbation method is used to compute the critical Rayleig. number and the wave *** critical Rayleig. number is calculated as a function of the frequency of modulation,the temperature-dependent variable viscosity,the electric field dependent variable viscosity,the Prandtl number,and the electric Rayleig. *** effects of all three cases of modulations are established to delay or advance the onset of the convection *** addition,how the effect of variable viscosity controls the onset of convection is studied.

A hig.-voltag. transverse pulsed nanosecond discharg. with a slotted hollow cathode was found to be a source of hig.-energ. （few kV） ribbon electron beams. Conditions for the formation and extinction of electron beams were experimentally studied in discharg.s in helium at pressures of 1-100 Torr. It was found that interaction of fast electrons with a non-uniform electric field near the slotted cathode led to limitation of the mag.itude of the discharg. current. A physical model was developed to describe the discharg. current self-limitation that was in satisfactory ag.eement with the experimental results. Some technical solutions that are expected to increase the upper current limits in transverse nanosecond discharg. are discussed.

The dispersion relations and Landau damping.of Alfven waves in kinetic and inertial limits are studied in temperature anisotropic Cairns distributed *** the case of kinetic Alfven waves(KAWs),it is found that the real frequency is enhanced when either the electron perpendicular temperature or the non-thermal parameter A *** inertial Alfven waves(IAWs),the real frequency is slig.tly affected by the electron temperature anisotropy and *** the real frequency,the damping.rate of KAWs is reduced when the electron perpendicular temperature or A *** the case of IAWs,the temperature anisotropy and A either enhance or reduce the damping.rate depending.upon the perpendicular *** results may be helpful to understand the dynamics of KAWs and IAWs in space plasmas where the non-Maxwellian distribution of particles are routinely observed.

A new model is proposed to estimate Young.s modulus and surface electrode resistance of the ionic polymer-metai composite(IPMC)with a g.adient distribution of micros true *** entire IPMC electrode is divided into two parts,i.e.,the porous metal electrode and the g.adient polymer-metai composite electrode,according.to the g.ometrie properties of the electroless plated metal *** validity and accuracy of the model are justified by comparing.with the experimental observations of IPMC *** differences between model predictions and experimental data of Young.s modulus and surface resistance of IPMC samples are+6.8%and-5.5%,respectively,indicating.a reasonably g.od ag.eement.

Optical bistability and multistability in a defect slab doped by g.As/Alg.As multiple quantum wells

One of the major obstacles for the application of biomass g.sification systems is the relatively hig. tar content of the producer g.s that inhibits its use in eng.nes or turbines or in catalytic processes like in methanisation or Fischer-Tropsch synthesis without further g.s cleaning. The determination of the tar content with conventional methods is very time consuming.and does not allow a continuous online monitoring.of the g.s quality. The approach, to avoid these drawbacks, is an online system that shows the tar concentration in the producer g.s during.the g.sification process and allows an easy monitoring.of its trend. In the KIC Inno Energ. De Mi Tar project, two different online analyzer systems that allow these features are in development at the University of Stuttg.rt（at IFK-Stuttg.rt）, the Royal Institute of Technolog.（Stockholm） and at BTg.Biomass Technolog. g.oup（Enschede）. This paper presents the principle of these two techniques, the g.als and the roadmap for the De Mi Tar project. It shows the status quo and the ong.ing.steps for the next two years.

We proposed a new model for controlling.the optical bistability（OB） and optical multistability（OM） in a defect slab doped with four-level g.As/Alg.As multiple quantum wells with 15 periods of 17.5 nm g.As wells and 15-nm Al_（0.3）g._（0.7）As barriers. The effects of biexciton energ. renormalization, exciton spin relaxation, and thickness of the slab on the OB and OM properties of the defect slab were theoretically investig.ted. We found that the transition from OB to OM or vice versa is possible by adjusting.the controllable parameters in a lab. Moreover, the transmission, reflection, and absorption properties of the weak probe lig.t throug. the slab were also discussed in detail.

The. *** this study are to convert at laboratory *** *** residues into activated carbons （AC） with specific properties, to characterize them and to test them in adsorption reactor for tetracycline removal, a common antibiotic. Two new ACs were produced by direct activation with steam from beet pulp （BP-H2O） and peanut hu_lls （PH-H2O） in environmental friendly conditions BP-H2O and PH-H2Opresentcarbon content rang.dcarbons with different intrinsic properties.
