奥本(Aubur.)大学提出的“性别分群”饲养制度为肉用鸡生产者提供了一种新的管理系统,以提高种鸡繁殖性能。据资料分析确认:该饲养制度的基本原则是给公鸡饲喂一种专门配方的日粮和特定数量的饲料,来增进公鸡的繁殖性能。目前,现行种鸡的管理实践是为了适应对母鸡的需要,以控制其体重和产蛋率,而对公鸡则会造成超重和脚、腿疾病。随年龄的增加,这将降低繁殖成绩。奥本大学在公鸡营养需要方面做了大量研究,发现肉用种公鸡对蛋白质的需要显著低于母鸡。事实上,母鸡日粮的蛋白质水平(15～16％)
