This study considers the f.rced convection of.laminar TiO2-water nanof.uid f.ow in a parallel plate microchannel. The small leng.h scale associated with microchannels dictates the use of.slip condition at the f.id-solid interf.ce. The modif.ed Buong.orno model was employed f.r the nanof.uid to f.lly account f.r the ef.ects of.non-unif.rm viscosity and thermal conductivity. The partial dif.erential equa- tions associated with conservation laws were reduced to two-point ordinary boundary value dif.erential equations bef.re being.numerically solved. Considering.Brownian motion and thermophoresis, the ef.ects of.nanoparticle transport on concentration, velocity, and temperature prof.les were analyzed f.r three dif.erent values of.wall heat f.ux. To assess the ef.iciency of.adding.nanoparticles, the ratios of.the pres- sure drop and the heat transf.r coef.icient of.the nanof.uid to that of.the base f.uid were studied in detail. f.om analyzing.dif.erent heat f.ux ratios, one-sided heating.was f.und to be most ef.icient at enhancing.the heat transf.r rate in the microchannel. Additionally, in the presence of.the slip velocity, the increase in the value of.the heat transf.r coef.icient f.r the nanof.uid was smaller than that f.r the base f.uid.

In this work, the mag.etohydrodynamics （MHD） natural convection heat transf.r problem inside a porous medium f.lled with inclined rectang.lar enclosures is investig.ted numerically. The boundary conditions selected on the enclosure are two adiabatic and two isothermal walls. The g.verning.equations, continuity, and f.rchheimer extension of.the Darcy law and energ. are transf.rmed into dimensionless f.rms by using.a set of.suitable variables, and then solved by using.a f.nite dif.erence scheme. The g.verning.parameters are the mag.etic inf.uence number, the Darcy Rayleig. number, the inclination ang.e, and the aspect ratio of.the enclosure. It is f.und that the mag.etic inf.uence number and the inclination ang.e have pronounced ef.ects on the f.uid f.ow and heat transf.r in porous media-f.lled enclosures.

A thermodynamic study on the interaction of.Jack bean urease, JBU, with Zn2＋ and Cd2＋ ions was studied by isothermal titration calorimetry （ITC） at 290, 300 and 310 K in 30 mmol/L Tris buf.er solution, pH 7.0. The heats of.JBU＋Zn2＋ and JBU＋Cd2＋ interactions are reported and analyzed in terms of.the extended solvation theory. It was indicated that there is a set of.12 identical and non-interacting.binding.sites f.r Zn2＋ and Cd2＋ ions. The interactions of.Zn2＋ and Cd2＋ ions with JBU are exothermic and both enthalpy and entropy driven. The association equilibrium constants f.r JBU＋Zn2＋ complexes are 4118.20, 3354.70 and 2790.62 Lomol 1 at 290, 300 and 310 K respectively. The association equilibrium constants f.r JBU＋Cd2＋ interactions are 2831.6 and 2386.28 Lomol 1 at 300 and 310 K, respectively.

Electrical characteristics of.Co/n-Si Schottky barrier diodes are analysed by current- voltag. （I- V） and capacitancevoltag. （C- V） techniques at room temperature. The electronic parameters such as ideality f.ctor, barrier heig.t and averag. series resistance are determined. The barrier heig.t 0. 76 eV obtained f.om the C - V measurements is hig.er than that of.the value 0. 70 eV obtained f.om the I - V measurements. The series resistance Rs and the ideality f.ctor n are determined f.om the d ln（ I） /dV plot and are f.und to be 193.62 Ω and 1.34, respectively. The barrier heig.t and the Rs value are calculated f.om the H（I） - I plot and are f.und to be 0.71 eV and 205.95Ω. f.rthermore, the energ. distribution of.the interf.ce state density is determined f.om the f.rward bias I - V characteristics by taking.into account the bias dependence of.the ef.ective barrier heig.t. The interf.ce state density Nss rang.s f.om 6.484×10^11 cm^-2eV^-1 in （Ec - 0.446） eV to 2.801×10^10 cm^-2eV^-1 in （Ec - 0.631） eV, of.the Co/n-Si Schottky barrier diode. The results show the presence of.a thin interracial layer between the metal and the semiconductor.

Over the past f.w decades, earthquake eng.neering.research mainly f.cused on the ef.ects of.strong.seismic shaking. Af.er the 1999 earthquakes in Turkey and Taiwan, and thanks to numerous cases where f.ult rupture caused substantial damag. to structures, the importance of.f.ulting.induced def.rmation has re-emerg.d. This paper, along.with its companion （Part Ⅱ）, exploits parametric results of.f.nite element analyses and centrif.g. model testing.in developing.a f.ur-step semi-analytical approach f.r analysis of.dip-slip （normal and thrust） f.ult rupture propag.tion throug. sand, its emerg.nce on the g.ound surf.ce, and its interaction with raf. f.undations. The present paper （Part Ⅰ） f.cuses on the ef.ects of.f.ulting.in the absence of.a structure （i.e., in the f.ee-f.eld）. The semi-analytical approach comprises two-steps： the f.rst deals with the rupture path and the estimation of.the location of.f.ult outcropping. and the second with the tectonically- induced displacement prof.le at the g.ound surf.ce. In both cases, simple mechanical analog.es are used to derive simplif.ed semi-analytical expressions. Centrif.g. model test data, in combination with parametric results f.om nonlinear f.nite element analyses, are utilized f.r model calibration. The derived semi-analytical expressions are shown to compare reasonably well with more rig.rous experimental and theoretical data, thus providing.a usef.l tool f.r a f.rst estimation of.near-f.ult seismic hazard.

f.nctional asymmetries, f.r example, the pref.rential involvement of.1 brain hemisphere to process stimuli, may increase brain ef.iciency and the capacity to carry out tasks simultaneously. We investig.ted which hemisphere was primarily invoIved in processing.acoustic stimuli in g.ats using.a headorienting.paradig.. Three playbacks using.g.at vocalizations recorded in dif.erent contexts: f.od anticipation (positive), isolation (neg.tive), f.od f.ustration (neg.tive), as well as 1 playback involving.dog.barks (neg.tive) were presented on the lef. and rig.t sides of.the test subjects simultaneously. The head-orienting.response (lef. or rig.t) and latency to resume f.eding.were recorded. The direction of.the head-orienting.response did not dif.er between the various playbacks. However, when the head-orienting.response was tested ag.inst chanee level, g.ats showed a rig.t bias reg.rdless of.the stimuli presented. g.ats responded more to dog.barks than to f.od f.ustration calls, whereas responses to f.od anticipation and isolation calls were intermediate. In addition, the latency to resume f.eding. an indicator of.f.ar reaction, was not af.ected by the kind of.vocalization presented. These results provide evidence f.r asymmetries in g.at vocal perceptio n of.emotional-li nked con specif.c and heterospecif.c calls. They also sug.est involvement of.the lef. brain hemisphere f.r processing.acoustic stimuli, which mig.t have been perceived as f.miliar and non -threate ning.

This paper elucidates the interactive buckling.behaviors of.an inf.ated envelope under coupled mechanical and thermal loads, especially the long.tudinal wrinkling.bif.rcation and hoop ovalization buckling. The long.tudinal bending.buckling.process of.the inf.ated envelope can be divided into three continuous stag.s, which are g.obal buckling. interactive g.obal-local buckling. and kink. A variety of.hoop ovalization buckling.modes are observed under coupled mechanical-thermal load. Unlike the mechanical case, thermal load leads to a hoop neg.tive ovalization buckling. In addition, it can accelerate the long.tudinal coupled bif.rcation and resist the hoop coupled ovalization buckling. Moreover, the bending.resistance of.the inf.ated envelope will be improved when the leng.h of.the structure is increased, resulting.in the dif.iculty of.it to become wrinkled. These results provide a new insig.t into the buckling.behaviors of.an inf.ated envelope under coupled external loads, and g.ve a ref.rence f.r the desig. of.the inf.ated envelope.
