Investigation of effect of near-fault motions on substandard bridge structures

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of near-fault ground motions on substandard bridge columns and piers. To accomplish these goals, several large scale reinforced concrete models were constructed and tested on a shake table using near- and far-field ground motion records. Because the input earthquakes for the test models had different characteristics, three different measures were used to evaluate the effect of the input earthquake. These measures are peak shake table acceleration, spectral acceleration at the fundamental period of the test specimens, and the specimen drift ratios. For each measure, force-displacement relationships, strains, curvatures, drift ratios, and visual damage were evaluated. Results showed that regardless of the measure of input or response, the near-fault record generally led to larger strains, curvatures, and drift ratios. Furthermore, residual displacements were small compared to those for columns meeting current seismic code requirements.

Impact of time between meniscal injury and isolated meniscus repair on post-operative outcomes:A systematic review

BACKgROUND Meniscal tears are one of the most common knee *** the diagnosis of a meniscal tear has been made,there are several factors physicians use to guide clinical *** influence of time between injury and isolated meniscus repair on patient outcomes is not well *** this relationship is important as it may influence clinical decision-making and can add to the preoperative patient education *** hypothesized that increasing the time from injury to meniscus surgery would worsen postoperative *** To investigate the current literature for data on the relationship between time between meniscus injury and repair on patient *** PubMed,Academic Search Complete,MEDLINE,CINAHL,and SPORTDiscus were searched for studies published between January 1,1995 and July 13,2023 on isolated meniscus *** criteria included concomitant ligament surgery,incomplete outcomes or time to surgery data,and *** demographics,time to injury,and postoperative outcomes from each study were abstracted and *** Five studies met all inclusion and exclusion *** were 204(121 male,83 female)patients *** of five(60%)studies determined that time between injury and surgery was not statistically significant for postoperative Lysholm scores(P=0.62),Tegner scores(P=0.46),failure rate(P=0.45,P=0.86),and International Knee Documentation Committee scores(P=0.65).Two of five(40%)studies found a statistically significant increase in Lysholm scores with shorter time to surgery(P=0.03)and a statistically significant association between progression of medial meniscus extrusion ratio(P=0.01)and increasing time to *** Our results do not support the hypothesis that increased time from injury to isolated meniscus surgery worsens postoperative ***-making primarily based on injury interval is thus not recommended.

Methods for the diagnosis of bacterial fish diseases

The diagnosis of bacterial fish diseases has progressed from traditional culture・dependent methods involving the recoveryof pathogens on agar-containing media and identification by examination of phenotypic traits. Newer approaches centreon culture-independent approaches. A problem with culturing is that it lacks sensitivity, tends to be slow, and its successdepends on the composition of the media and incubation conditions employed. In contrast, culture-independent methods,now centring on molecular methods, are highly specific and sensitive. This raises an important issue that detection of verylow numbers of bacterial cells does not necessarily imply the presence of clinical disease. Positivity could reflect backgroundpopulations of the pathogen that may be present in the aquatic environment.

CO2 activation on bimetallic CuNi nanoparticles

Density functional theory calculations have been performed to investigate the structural, electronic, and CO2adsorption properties of 55-atom bimetallic Cu Ni nanoparticles（NPs） in core-shell and decorated architectures,as well as of their monometallic counterparts. Our results revealed that with respect to the monometallic Cu55and Ni55parents, the formation of decorated Cu12Ni43and core-shell Cu42Ni13are energetically favorable. We found that CO2chemisorbs on monometallic Ni55, core-shell Cu13Ni42, and decorated Cu12Ni43and Cu43Ni12,whereas, it physisorbs on monometallic Cu55and core-shell Cu42Ni13. The presence of surface Ni on the NPs is key in strongly adsorbing and activating the CO2molecule（linear to bent transition and elongation of C=O bonds）. This activation occurs through a charge transfer from the NPs to the CO2molecule, where the local metal d-orbital density localization on surface Ni plays a pivotal role. This work identifies insightful structureproperty relationships for CO2activation and highlights the importance of keeping a balance between NP stability and CO2adsorption behavior in designing catalytic bimetallic NPs that activate CO2.

Cluster consensus of second-order multi-agent systems via pinning control

This paper investigates the cluster consensus problem for second-order multi-agent systems by applying the pinning control method to a small collection of the agents. Consensus is attained independently for different agent clusters according to the community structure generated by the group partition of the underlying graph and sufficient conditions for both cluster and general consensus are obtained by using results from algebraic graph theory and the LaSalle Invariance Principle. Finally, some simple simulations are presented to illustrate the technique.

We investigate the cluster consensus problem in directed networks of nonlinearly coupled multi-agent systems by using pinning control. Depending on the community structure generated by the group partition of the underlying digraph, various clusters can be made coherently independent by applying feedback injections to a fraction of the agents. Sufficient conditions for cluster consensus are obtained using algebraic graph theory and matrix theory and some simulations results are included to illustrate the method.

Compositional Effect of ZrO_2 Nanofillers on a PVDF-co-HFP Based Polymer Electrolyte System for Solid State Zinc Batteries

Composite polymer electrolytes（CPEs） comprising poly（vinilydene fluoride-hexafluoro propylene）, PVDF-coHFP and zinc triflate, Zn（CF3SO3）2 with varying concentrations of ZrO_2 nanofillers were prepared by solution casting technique with N,N-dimethyl formamide（DMF） as the common solvent. The polymer electrolyte specimen with the particular composition 75 wt% PVDF-co-HFP： 25 wt% Zn Tf ＋ 7 wt% Zr O2 showed the highest conductivity of 4.6 × 10-4 S/cm at 298 K as confirmed from impedance measurements and favored by the rich amorphous phase of the CPE revealed from room temperature X-ray diffraction analysis（XRD）. The electrical conductivity relaxation time and its distribution within the materials have been evaluated from the electric modulus M 2 and impedance Z＂ data which showed the occurrence of non-Debye type of relaxation phenomenon. The changes in the surface morphology of the CPEs were examined using scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. The electrochemical stability window of CPE is found to be 2.6 V with a thermal stability up to 300 °C. An electrochemical cell has been fabricated based on Zn/MnO_2 electrode couple under a constant load of 1 MΩ and its discharge characteristics have been evaluated.

Statistical Analyses of Runoff,River Stage and Peak Discharge,Tao River,China
