Emotions of gynecologic Cancer Patients Dealing with Permanent Colostomy:A Qualitative Interview Study

Purpose: This study was conducted to describe emotional state of colostomized patients with gynecologic cancer. Patients and Methods: The study employed a qualitative design from May to October of 2010, in a private university hospitals outpatient gnecologic oncology clinic in Ankara, Turkey. Content analysis with an inductive approach had been used to analyze 32 interviews that served as the data base for this study. Interview form that focused on what gynecologic cancer women felt to living with a colostomy. Results: Findings also reveal that gynecologic cancer patients with colostomy experience many uneasy feelings that affect their emotional state. The content analysis resulted in the development of two thematic units. The first we described as “To experience the consequences of stoma as a gynecologic cancer patients”. The second was “suffering experienced-being challenged the consequences of the stoma”, and the third was “promote self management-normalization of the new condition”. For the psychological support, family and friends’ support has been mentioned as the most important part that can release their anxiety. Conclusions: We concluded that a having stoma was difficult for the women. The emotional state of the women when they get colostomy was typically characterized by fear, and worry about their current process. Body image, self-esteem, social activity, sexuality were the aspects that most affected the patients. Nurses have very important role within holistic approach and empathetic interaction, for determining major problem areas.

Epidemic management in a measles outbreak in 2023,the return of vaccine-preventable diseases:A single center,retrospective observational study

Objective:To investigate the importance of immunization in preventing measles infection and to determine the most useful laboratory tests for confirmation of ***:This study included pediatric cases evaluated with a presumed diagnosis of measles between December 2022 and June 2023,at Marmara University Pendik Training and Research *** effects of vaccination status and underlying disease on the clinical course,treatments,and complications were ***:In total,117 patients were enrolled in the study with a median age of 80 months(IQR:32.5-125.0).Twelve patients with contact history were asymptomatic and had an underlying disorder,and intravenous immunoglobulin was given to them for post-exposure ***-one patients had confirmed measles *** treatment was given to three patients(a newborn,a girl with rhabdomyosarcoma,and a healthy boy)with respiratory ***-eight percent of confirmed measles cases were unvaccinated,and all hospitalized cases were unvaccinated or *** full-vaccinated children had confirmed measles *** PCR from nasopharyngeal swabs was negative in all of them,and their diagnosis was established with anti-measles IgM ***:The measles vaccine is the most effective way to protect from measles and measles-related *** measles can also occur in fully vaccinated patients,the disease is milder than in unvaccinated *** ElISA and RT-PCR tests together may be beneficial in patients with high clinical suspicion for early diagnosis.

Slender reinforced concrete shear walls with high-strength concrete boundary elements

Reinforced concrete structural walls are commonly used for resisting lateral forces in buildings. Owing to the advancements in the field of concrete materials over the past few decades, concrete mixes of high compressive strength, commonly referred to as high-strength concrete (HSC), have been developed. In this study, the effects of strategic placement of HSC on the performance of slender walls were examined. The finite-element model of a conventional normal-strength concrete (NSC) prototype wall was validated using test data available in extant studies. HSC was incorporated in the boundary elements of the wall to compare its performance with that of the conventional wall at different axial loads. Potential reductions in the reinforcement area and size of the boundary elements were investigated. The HSC wall exhibited improved strength and stiffness, and thereby, allowed reduction in the longitudinal reinforcement area and size of the boundary elements for the same strength of the conventional wall. Cold joints resulting from dissimilar concrete pours in the web and boundary elements of the HSC wall were modeled and their impact on behavior of the wall was examined.

Endocrine disruptor chemicals as obesogen and diabetogen: Clinical and mechanistic evidence

Obesity is becoming an inevitable pandemic all over the *** World Obesity Federation predicts in the 2022 World Obesity Atlas that one billion people worldwide,including 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men,will be living with obesity by ***,the prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide,and diabetes is becoming more of a public health *** insulin resistance due to obesity and deficiency in insulin secretion are the two main causes of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).An exogenous chemical or mixture of chemicals that interferes with any aspect of hormone action was defined as endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs).Bisphenol A(BPA),the first known EDC,was synthesized and was considered to be *** production of BPA has increased progressively from 5 to 8 million tons(MT)between 2010 and ***,researchers estimated that the production should reach 10.2 MT by *** human population is exposed to EDCs in daily life in such forms as pesticides/herbicides,industrial and household products,plastics,detergents,and personal care *** term obesogen was used for chemicals that promote weight gain and obesity by increasing the number of adipocytes and fat storage in existing adipocytes,changing the energy balance,and finally regulating appetite and *** the obesogenic effect,EDCs can cause T2DM through alteration inßcell function and morphology and insulin *** this review,we provide clinical and mechanistic evidence regarding EDCs as obesogen and ***,those studies are not enough methodologically to indicate *** this respect,randomized clinical trials are needed to investigate the association between obesogen,diabetogen and the related metabolic clinical picture.

Solar air heaters are at the centre of interest owing to their widespread use for various *** the study,thermal performance analysis of a solar air heater that can be easily produced from daily waste materials is *** system has a low-cost structure with both waste material use and a simple *** proposed system is tested under different climatic conditions,and the energetic and the exergetic performance figures are obtained for the first time in *** is observed from the experimental tests that the results are stable and coherent as well as in good accordance with the similar attempts in literature with some cost reductions and performance *** performance analyses indicate that the maximum energy efficiency of the system is about 21%,whereas the exergy efficiency is 1.8%.The energetic and exergetic outputs of the system are also determined to be 27 W and 3 W,respectively,which is promising.

There are many factors that have a major influence on reducing the energy expenditure in building *** research aims at qualitative and quantitative assessment of those factors such as double glazed windows,ver-tical greenery systems(VgS),integrating of semi-transparent photovoltaic device with architectural design of buildings,energy saving by using heat reflecting coating,passive climate control methods,energy saving by shading,building energy performance enhancement by using optimisation technique,double skin green facade,*** a holistic and thematic *** the aforesaid techniques,VgS is found the most reliable,efficient and sustainable *** VgS can improve the urban environment,increase biodiversity,mit-igate pollution also results economic benefit of the buildings as like as energy savings and decreasing surface *** fundamental energy saving methods are used in VgS which are considered as passive energy saving ***,interception of solar radiation due to the shadow risen by the vegetation;secondly,vegetation also provides thermal insulation;thirdly,plants evapotranspiration helps for evaporative cooling of building;finally,building blockage makes a variation of wind effect on *** peak cooling load of ivy coated green building wall has been reduced by 28%.If a VgS is installed without windows and building fac-ing on west,east,south and north correspondingly,the reduction in the cooling load capacity of the building is observed to be up to 20,18,8 and 5%,*** high thermally resistive glazed areas on building envelope can be secured via thin film PV glazing and vacuum glazing products with an average U-value of 1.1 and 0.4 W/m 2 K,*** use policies are also helpful to improve energy consumption scenario of *** developing more energy-efficient,sustainable and eco-friendly buildings,these techniques might be helpful for the building designers and architect

A novel indicator system for catalytic spectrophotometric determination and speciation of inorganic selenium species (Se(Ⅳ), Se(Ⅵ)) at trace levels in natural lake and river water samples

A novel catalytic kinetic method is proposed for the determination of Se（Ⅳ）, Se（Ⅵ）, and total inorganic selenium in water based on the catalytic effect of Se（Ⅳ） on the reduction of Celestine blue by sodium sulfide at pH 7.0 phosphate buffer. The fixed-time method was adopted for the determination and speciation of inorganic selenium. Under the optimum conditions, the two calibration graphs are linear with a good correlation coefficient in the range 2-20 and 20-200 μg·l-1 of Se（Ⅳ） for the fixed-time method at 30℃. The experimental and theo- retical detection limits of the developed kinetic method were found to be 0.21 and 2.50 μg·l-1 for the fixed-time method （3 min）. All of the variables that affect the sensitivity at 645 nm were investigated, and the optimum conditions were established. The interference effect of various cations and anions on the Se（Ⅳ） determination was also studied. The selectivity of the selenium determination was greatly improved with the use of the strongly cation exchange resin such as Amberlite IR120 plus as long as chelating agents of thiourea and thiosulphate. The proposed kinetic method was validated statistically and through recovery studies in natural water samples. The relative standard deviations （RSDs） for ten replicate measurements of 2, 10, and 20 μg·l-1 of Se（Ⅳ） change between 0.35% and 5.58%, while the RSDs for ten replicate measurements of 3, 6, and 12 μg·l-1 of Se（Ⅵ） change between 0.49% and 1.61%. Analyses of a certified standard reference material （NIST SRM 1643e） for selenium using the fixed-time method showed that the proposed kinetic method has good accuracy. The Se（Ⅳ）, Se（Ⅵ）, and total inorganic selenium in lake and river water samples have been successfully determined by this method after selective reduction of Se（Ⅵ） to Se（Ⅳ）.
