The development of ultralightweight expanded perlite-based thermal insulation panel using alkali activator solution

The International Energy Agency(IEA)states that global energy consumption will increase by 53%by 2030.Turkey has 70%of the world’s perlite reserves,and in order to reduce energy consumption a thermal insulation panel was developed in Turkey using different particle sizes of expanded perlite(EP).In this study,0–1.18 mm(powder)and 0–3 mm(granular)EP particle sizes were selected,since they have the lowest thermal conductivity coefficients among all the particle sizes.In addition,an alkali activator solution was used as a binder in the mixtures.The alkaline activator solution was obtained by mixing sodium hydroxide solution(6,8,10,and 12 mol·L−1)and sodium silicate(Module 3)at the different ratios of Na2SiO3 to NaOH of 1,1.5,2,and 2.5.This study aimed to experimentally determine the optimum binder and distribution ratio of EP,with the lowest coefficient of thermal conductivity and the lowest density.The lowest thermal conductivity and the lowest density were determined as 0.04919 W·m−1·K−1 and 133.267 kg/m3,respectively,in the sample prepared with 83.33%powder-size EP,6 mol·L−1 sodium hydroxide solution,and ratio of Na2SiO3 to NaOH of 1.5.The density,thermal conductivity,and compressive strength of the sample showed the same trends of behavior when the Na2SiO3 to NaOH ratio was increased.In addition,the highest compressive strength was measured in 12 mol·L−1 NaOH concentration regardless of particle size.In conclusion,the study predicts that the EP-based thermal insulation panel can be used as an insulation material in the construction industry according to the TS825 Thermal Insulation Standard.

In this work the structural,electronic and thermoelectric properties of YbMg_(2)X_(2)(X=P,As,Sb,Bi)zintl compounds were investigated comprehensively using first principles study.The electronic properties were studied using PBE ggA,TB-mBJ and hybrid(YS-PBE0)potentials.All the structural parameters of optimized structures are in harmonious agreement to the available data.The band structure study illustrates that the titled materials manifest metallic and semi metallic nature using PBE and TB-mBJ potentials while they show wide band gap semiconducting behavior by following hybrid(YS-PBE0)potential.Total density of states(TDOS)and partial density of states(PDOS)were also calculated to glimpse the contribution of orbitals of atoms in the formation of bands.Transport properties were studied by using BoltzTraP2 code employed to WIEN2k.We get enormous values of Seebeck coefficient(S),power factor(PF)and thermoelectric figure of merit(ZT)for all the samples YbMg_(2)X_(2)(X=P,As,Sb,Bi),Moreover,the overwhelming transport properties for the titled compounds indicate the optimum level of carriers’concentration which pinpoints these materials to be better thermoelectrics in the 1-2-2 zintl family.

Prognostic factors of breast cancer brain metastasis

In this editorial we comment on the article by Chen et al published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Clinical Oncology.Brain metastasis is one of the most serious complications of breast cancer and causes high morbidity and mortality.Brain metastases may involve the brain parenchyma and/or leptomeninges.Symptomatic brain metastases develop in 10%-16%of newly recognized cases each year,and this rate increases to 30%in autopsy series.Depending on the size of the metastatic foci,it may be accompanied by extensive vasogenic edema or may occur as small tumor foci.Since brain metastases are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality,early diagnosis can have significant effects on survival and quality of life.The risk of developing brain metastases emerges progressively due to various patient and tumor characteristics.Patient variability may be particularly important in the susceptibility and distribution of brain metastases because malignant blood must cross the brain barrier and move within the brain parenchyma.Some characteristics of the tumor,such as gene expression,may increase the risk of brain metastasis.Clinical growth,tumor stage,tumor grade,growth receptor positivity,HER2 positivity,molecular subtype(such as triple negative status,luminal/nonluminal feature)increase the risk of developing breast cancer metastasis.Factors related to survival due to breast cancer brain metastasis include both tumor/patient characteristics and treatment characteristics,such as patient age,lung metastasis,surgery for brain metastasis,and HER2 positivity.If cases with a high risk of developing brain metastasis can be identified with the help of clinical procedures and artificial intelligence,survival and quality of life can be increased with early diagnosis and treatment.At the same time,it is important to predict the formation of this group in order to develop new treatment methods in cases with low survival expectancy with brain metastases.

Circulating tumor cells as prognostic marker in pancreatic cancer

In this editorial we comment on the article by Zhang et al published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Clinical Oncology.Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related mortality and has the lowest survival rate among all solid cancers.It causes 227000 deaths annually worldwide,and the 5-year survival rate is very low due to early metastasis,which is 4.6%.Cancer survival increases with better knowledge of risk factors and early and accurate diagnosis.Circulating tumor cells(CTCs)are tumor cells that intravasate from the primary tumor or metastasis foci into the peripheral blood circulation system spontan-eously or during surgical operations.Detection of CTC in blood is promising for early diagnosis.In addition,studies have associated high CTC levels with a more advanced stage,and more intensive treatments should be considered in cases with high CTC.In tumors that are considered radiologically resectable,it may be of critical importance in detecting occult metastases and preventing unnecessary surgeries.

In this editorial review,we comment on the article published in the recent issue of the World Journal of gastrointestinal Surgery.Carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)is a fetal glycoprotein and can be secreted in very small amounts from healthy adults after birth.CEA is widely used not only for diagnostic tumor markers but also importantly for the management of some gastrointestinal tumors.The most common clinical use is surveillance for the monitoring of colorectal carcinoma.However,CEA can become elevated in several malign or benign characterized pathologies.Serum CEA level may vary depending on the location of the lesion,whether it metastasizes or not,and its histopathological characteristics.It has been determined that cases with high preoperative CEA have a more aggressive course and the risk of metastasis to the lymph tissue and liver increases.In this editorial review,we focused on evaluating the role of CEA in clinical practice with a holistic approach,including the diagnostic and prognostic significance of CEA in patients with focal liver lesions,the role of CEA in follow-up after definitive surgery,and also hepatic resection for metastasis,and the management of all patients with raised CEA.

Can NogoA Be a Suitable Target to Treat Ischemic Stroke?

Treating stroke or restoring brain function after stroke remains challenging for clinicians[1,2].Researchers have largely focused on developing neuroprotective strategies and translating these discoveries from rodent experiments to the clinical setting;however,these have been typified by several failures[2].It is known that astrocytes play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke[3,4].They are activated in response to stimuli arising from injury,characterized by drastic changes to their morphology and function-associated gene expression.Reactive astrocytes exacerbate secondary neurodegeneration(repair of nervous tissue by the generation of new neurons,glial cells,axons,myelin,or synapses)[5]as well as provide neuroprotection during CNS pathologies[6].It is worth noting that myelin-related neurite growth inhibitors induce the suppression of axon regeneration after stroke[7].

Sentiment analysis, a crucial task in discerning emotional tones within the text, plays a pivotal role in understandingpublic opinion and user sentiment across diverse languages.While numerous scholars conduct sentiment analysisin widely spoken languages such as English, Chinese, Arabic, Roman Arabic, and more, we come to grapplingwith resource-poor languages like Urdu literature which becomes a challenge. Urdu is a uniquely crafted language,characterized by a script that amalgamates elements from diverse languages, including Arabic, Parsi, Pashtu,Turkish, Punjabi, Saraiki, and more. As Urdu literature, characterized by distinct character sets and linguisticfeatures, presents an additional hurdle due to the lack of accessible datasets, rendering sentiment analysis aformidable undertaking. The limited availability of resources has fueled increased interest among researchers,prompting a deeper exploration into Urdu sentiment analysis. This research is dedicated to Urdu languagesentiment analysis, employing sophisticated deep learning models on an extensive dataset categorized into fivelabels: Positive, Negative, Neutral, Mixed, and Ambiguous. The primary objective is to discern sentiments andemotions within the Urdu language, despite the absence of well-curated datasets. To tackle this challenge, theinitial step involves the creation of a comprehensive Urdu dataset by aggregating data from various sources such asnewspapers, articles, and socialmedia comments. Subsequent to this data collection, a thorough process of cleaningand preprocessing is implemented to ensure the quality of the data. The study leverages two well-known deeplearningmodels, namely Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), for bothtraining and evaluating sentiment analysis performance. Additionally, the study explores hyperparameter tuning tooptimize the models’ efficacy. Dodecyl alcohol(DDA) is a promising solid-liquid phase change material(PCM) due to its favorable latent heat storage(LHS) characteristics.However,the leakage issue of PCM in a melted state during the heating period and low thermal conductivity restricts its utilization potential in thermal energy storage(TES) practices.Within the same context,the present work aims to overcome the leakage issue and improve the thermal conductivity of the DDA.With this in mind,a novel leak-proof layered double hydroxide(LDH)/DDA composite PCM is proposed through a solution-based impregnation method.The leak-proof impregnation ratio of the DDA impregnated within the cavities of the synthesized Al/Fe-LDH was determined to be 60%.Detailed morphological,physicochemical,and thermal properties of the fabricated composite were studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD)spectroscopy,differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),thermalgravimetric analysis(TgA),and thermal cycling study.The results show that the LDH/DDA composite has a suitable phase change temperature(about 20℃) for passive solar thermal management of building envelopes.This composite PCM showed high LHS enthalpy(about136 J/g),good thermal stability,and cycling LHS reliability.It also showed nearly 152% higher thermal conductivity compared to that of pure DDA,ultimately reducing the melting and solidification time of the pure DDA by 44.9% and 45.5%,respectively.

A novel fractional case study of nonlinear dynamics via analytical approach

The present work describes the fractional view analysis of Newell-Whitehead-Segal equations,using an innovative technique.The work is carried with the help of the Caputo operator of fractional derivative.The analytical solutions of some numerical examples are presented to confirm the reliability of the proposed method.The derived results are very consistent with the actual solutions to the problems.A graphical representation has been done for the solution of the problems at various fractional-order derivatives.Moreover,the solution in series form has the desired rate of convergence and provides the closed-form solutions.It is noted that the procedure can be modified in other directions for fractional order problems.

Performance of Text-Independent Automatic Speaker Recognition on a Multicore System

This paper studies a high-speed text-independent Automatic Speaker Recognition(ASR)algorithm based on a multicore system's gaussian Mixture Model(gMM).The high speech is achieved using parallel implementation of the feature's extraction and aggregation methods during training and testing procedures.Shared memory parallel programming techniques using both OpenMP and PThreads libraries are developed to accelerate the code and improve the performance of the ASR algorithm.The experimental results show speed-up improvements of around 3.2 on a personal laptop with Intel i5-6300HQ(2.3 gHz,four cores without hyper-threading,and 8 gB of RAM).In addition,a remarkable 100%speaker recognition accuracy is achieved.
