High-resolution multi-scale air pollution system:Evaluation of modelling performance and emission control strategies

A high percentage of the world's population lives in areas where air pollutant concentrations exceed the World Health Organization *** work aims to develop and test,a high-resolution multi-scale air pollution modelling system by integrating a set of adequate *** system is able to provide detailed air pollutant concentrations in urban areas and support air quality management strategies through a better identification of different atmospheric *** also allows furthering the design and assessment of air pollution control measures for a specific *** evaluate its performance and suitability,the system was applied to the Macao Special Administrative Region(SAR),China,one of the most densely populated areas on earth,during a winter period when this area is affected by high levels of particulate Matter(pM).Although the developed system tends to underestimate the pM concentrations,it revealed a good performance in reproducing the temporal and spatial air pollution *** exceedances of the Chinese air quality standards were calculated and high population exposure to pM pollution was *** tested urban atmospheric emission reduction scenarios have shown air quality improvements,indicating that emission reduction measures at urban level should focus on the domestic ***,it is crucial to implement joint pollution prevention strategies with neighbouring regions to improve the air quality in Macao *** approach developed in this work can support policymakers in defining new strategies to reduce atmospheric pollution in urban areas.

Anthropogenic noise interacts with the predation risk assessment in a free-ranging bird

Anthropogenic noise can affect a number of behavioral,physiological,and ecological aspects of animals from major taxonomic groups,raising serious conservation *** example,noise pollution impacts communicative behavior and perception of signals,movements and distribution,as well as predator–prey interactions,such as hunting success or predator detection and predation risk *** have carried out an experimental playback study,in which we investigated whether exposure to anthropogenic noise(sound of a tractor)distracts free-ranging barn swallows Hirundo rustica from paying attention to an approaching human“predator”(the“cognitive distraction”hypothesis),or whether noise leads to increased responsiveness to this“predator”(the“increased threat”hypothesis).The subjects were male barn swallows attending their breeding territories during the time when the females were *** found that barn swallow males initiated fight at signifcantly greater distances to the approaching human“predator”in the noise treatment than during the quiet control *** results suggest that anthropogenic noise causes increased vigilance and reactivity rather than a distraction,enabling birds to avoid the“predator”more *** further discuss the mechanism behind the increased alertness in response to noise and contrast the“increased threat”mechanism,usually tested in previous studies,with an alternative“cognitive sensitization”mechanism.

The commercial viability of thermoelectric(TE)devices relies heavily on two factors:cost reduction and efficiency *** this study,we first produce p-type Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(16-x)(x=0,3,4)using a low-temperature bottom-up approach and demonstrate Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)to show the best TE performance among the three tested ***,the TE energy conversion efficiency of Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)is further enhanced by optimizing its electronic band structure through the incorporation of small amounts of *** an optimal Te content of 5 mol%,more than a twofold increase in the TE figure of merit(zT)is *** gain insight into the mechanism of improvement on the transport properties of the mate-rial,we compare the interphase transport mechanism by incorporating nanodomains of different metals(Ag and Cu)into the Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)*** improved electrical conductivity obtained with Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)-Te nanocomposites is attributed to a charge flooding of the Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)*** contrast,excessive down-ward band-bending at the interphases of Ag/Cu metal-semiconductor drastically reduces the electrical ***,a weighted mobility(μw)analysis shows a dominant thermal activation of carri-ers in Cu_(12)Sb_(4)S_(13)-Te *** this material,a strong decrease in lattice thermal conductivity is also found,which is associated with a phonon-carrier scattering *** work shows the impor-tance of proper band-engineering in TE nanocomposites to decouple electrical and thermal transport to enhance TE performance,and the efficacy ofμw for electrical and thermal transport analysis.

AIM:To define the predictive factors of severe retinopathy of prematurity(ROp)and develop a nomogram for predicting severe ROp in southeast ***:Totally 554 infants diagnosed with ROp hospitalized in the Second Affiliated Hospital and Yuying Children’s Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University and hospitalized in Taizhou Women and Children’s Hospital were *** data and 43 candidate predictive factors of ROp infants were collected *** regression model was used to identify predictive factors of severe ROp and to propose a nomogram for individual risk prediction,which was compared with WINROp model and Digirop-Birth ***:Infants from the Second Affiliated Hospital and Yuying Children’s Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University(n=478)were randomly allocated into training(n=402)and internal validation group(n=76).Infants from Taizhou Women and Children’s Hospital were set as external validation group(n=76).Severe ROp were found in 52 of 402 infants,12 of 76 infants,and 7 of 76 infants in training group,internal validation group,and external validation group,*** weight[odds ratio(OR),0.997;95%confidence interval(CI),0.996-0.999;p1],multiple births(OR,1.885;95%CI,1.013-3.506;p=0.045),and non-invasive ventilation(OR,0.288;95%CI,0.146-0.570;p1)were identified as predictive factors for the prediction of severe ROp,by univariate analysis and multivariate *** predicting severe ROp based on the internal validation group,the areas under receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)was 78.1(95%CI,64.2-92.0)for the nomogram,32.9(95%CI,15.3-50.5)for WINROp model,70.2(95%CI,55.8-84.6)for Digirop-Birth *** external validation group,AUC of the nomogram was also higher than that of WINROp model and Digirop-Birth model(80.2 versus 51.1 and 63.4).The decision curve analysis of the nomogram demonstrated better clinical efficacy than that of WINROp model and Digirop-Birth *** calibration curves demonst

Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation on physical Capacity of Heart Failure patients in Senegal

Background: Heart failure is a chronic and severe condition that often results from various heart diseases. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is currently a crucial component in managing this condition. The aim was to assess the effects of cardiac rehabilitation on physical capacity of heart failure patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from February 1, 2021, to June 30, 2023. We included all patients with heart failure who underwent cardiac rehabilitation. Data analysis was performed using SpSS software version 24.0, with a significance level set at p Results: The study included 87 heart failure patients, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.8. Mean age was 57.10 years (±11.75). Coronary artery disease was the primary cause of heart failure, accounting for 75.9% of cases. Atrial fibrillation was present in 4.7% of cases. Following cardiac rehabilitation, Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction increased from 40.15% to 49.48% (p = 0.001). Resting heart rate decreased significantly from 81.4 bpm to 68.3 bpm (p = 0.000), and the number of METS increased from 4.3 to 6.57 (+56.8%;p = 0.000). The mean distance covered in the 6-minute walk test significantly increased from 337.8 meters to 522.7 meters (p = 0.000), reflecting a gain of 183.5 meters. Moreover, the increase in the number of METS was more pronounced in females (p = 0.001), non-obese individuals (p = 0.000), non-diabetics (p = 0.001), non-sedentary individuals (p = 0.000), and non-smokers (p = 0.000). The study reported a low readmissions rate of 2.2% and a mortality rate of 1.1%. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that cardiac rehabilitation is beneficial for black African heart failure patients, resulting in significant improvements in symptoms, physical and capacity.

目的用音樂療法作為放鬆的介入方式,以減輕結腸鏡檢查者術中的不適,促進結腸鏡檢查的進程及改善舒適度。方法2021年4月12日~5月18日,於澳門某醫院對104位結腸鏡檢查者進行研究,分為研究組及對照組(每組各52人)。研究組結腸鏡檢查者介入音樂療法,對照組予常規照護,比較兩組疼痛評分(numerical rating scale,NRS)、收縮壓、舒張壓、心率及結腸鏡檢查進鏡時間的差異。結果兩組研究參與者在NRS疼痛評分、術中及術後血壓及心率無差異;兩組結腸鏡檢查的進鏡時間均數沒有顯著差異;但進鏡時間≦10分鐘組(非困難腸鏡組)與>10分鐘組(困難腸鏡組)則存在組間差異,在非困難腸鏡組中,研究組進鏡時間為6.2±1.6分鐘,對照組進鏡時間為7.2±1.6分鐘(T=-2.075,p<0.05);困難腸鏡組則沒有顯著差異。結論音樂放鬆療法對結腸鏡檢查者的疼痛緩解、血壓及心率穩定沒有顯著作用,但仍可縮短“非困難腸鏡”的進鏡時間。

Since S-wave velocity of the subsurface is an important parameter in near surface applications,many studies have been conducted for its *** the various methods that use surface waves or body waves,Rayleigh wave inversion is the most *** practice,the densities and p-wave velocities of different layers are usually assumed to be known to avoid ill-posed problems,as they have less influence on the dispersion ***,improper assignment of these two groups of parameters leads to inaccurate estimation of the S-wave velocity *** order to address this problem,the all-parameters Rayleigh wave inversion strategy is proposed in which the S-wave velocities,layer thicknesses,densities and p-wave velocities of different layers are included as the unknown parameters for ***,the transitional Markov Chain Monte Carlo(TMCMC)algorithm is applied for the implementation of all-parameters Rayleigh wave *** simulated example and two real-test applications are demonstrated to verify the capability of the proposed method in the estimation of the S-wave velocity profile,the densities and the p-wave ***,it is verified that the proposed method achieved more accurate S-wave velocity profile estimation than the traditional approach.
