Hepatobiliary manifestations in inflammatory bowel disease: The gut,the drugs and the liver

Abnormal liver biochemical tests are present in up to30%of patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),and therefore become a diagnostic *** and biliary tract diseases are common extraintestinal manifestations for both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis(UC),and typically do not correlate with intestinal *** sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)is the most common hepatobiliary manifestation of IBD,and is more prevalent in *** 5%of patients with UC develop PSC,with the prevalence reaching up to 90%.Cholangiocarcinoma and colon cancer risks are increased in these *** common disorders include autoimmune hepatitis/PSC overlap syndrome,Igg4-associated cholangiopathy,primary biliary cirrhosis,hepatic amyloidosis,granulomatous hepatitis,cholelithiasis,portal vein thrombosis,liver abscess,and non-alcoholic fatty liver *** B reactivation during immunosuppressive therapy is a major concern,with screening and vaccination being recommended in serologically negative cases for patients with *** prophylaxis with entecavir or tenofovir for 6to 12 mo after the end of immunosuppressive therapy is mandatory in patients showing as hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)positive,independently from viral *** negative and anti-HBc positive patients,with or without anti-HBs,should be closely monitored,measuring alanine aminotransferase and hepatitis B virus DNA within 12 mo after the end of therapy,and should be treated if the viral load *** the other hand,immunosuppressive therapy does not seem to promote reactivation of hepatitis C,and hepatitis C antiviral treatment does not influence IBD natural history *** of the drugs used for IBD treatment may induce hepatotoxicity,although the incidence of serious adverse events is *** in liver biochemical tests associated with aminosalicylates are uncommon and are usually not clinically *** hepatotoxicity has been describ

Into the life and death: RecA a WISE factor working to integrate survival and evolution in <i>Escherichia coli</i>

Escherichia coli RecA has been considered traditionally a cellular protein with multiple vital functions working to ensure the maintenance of integrity of genome in each individual bacterial cell as well as promoting swarming migration in collectivity. On the contrary, recently it has been described that RecA promotes cellular apoptotic-like death (ALD), a pathway of programmed cellular death (PCD). In fact, RecA has been dubbed as the major apoptotic executor in E. coli. From these studies, RecA emerges as a prototypical gin/gan protein that despite of their intrinsic vital and lethal anfi-funcionality becomes in a WISE factor: a Worker to Integrate Survival and Evolution in E. coli evolving populations living in community. Here, I provide a review of recent experimental and conceptual advances trying to understand these RecA’s antagonistic roles in appearance contradictory under a unified biological vision.

This paper reviews the current state of knowledge on psychological interventions with empirical evidence of efficacy in treating common psychiatric and behavioral disorders in people with intellectual disability(ID)at all stages of their *** begin with a brief presentation of what is meant by psychiatric and behavioral disorders in this population,along with an explanation of some of the factors that contribute to the increased psychosocial vulnerability of this group to present with these *** then conduct a review of empirically supported psychological therapies used to treat psychiatric and behavioral disorders in people with *** review is structured around the three generations of therapies:Applied behavior analysis(e.g.,positive behavior support),cognitive behavioral therapies(e.g.,mindfulness-based cognitive therapy),and contextual therapies(e.g.,dialectical behavior therapy).We conclude with some recommendations for professional practice in the fields of ID and psychiatry.

Fractional order nonlinear evolution equations have emerged in recent times as being very important model for depicting the interior behavior of nonlinear phenomena that exist in the real *** particular,Schrodinger-type fractional nonlinear evolution equations constitute an aspect of the field of quantum *** this study,the(2+1)-dimensional time-fractional nonlinear Schrodinger equation and(1+1)-dimensional time-space fractional nonlinear Schrodinger equation are revealed as having different and novel wave *** is shown by constructing appropriate analytic wave solutions.A success-ful implementation of the advised rational(1/φ'(ξ))-expansion method generates new outcomes of the considered equations,by comparing them with those already noted in the *** the basis of the conformable fractional derivative,a composite wave variable conversion has been used to adapt the suggested equations into the differential equations with a single independent variable before applying the ***,the well-furnished outcomes are plotted in different 3D and 2D profiles for the purpose of illustrating various physical characteristics of wave *** employed technique is competent,productive and concise enough,making it feasible for future studies.

The production of biomass pellets and briquettes from agroforestry residues has increased rapidly in recent years. The design of machines, equipment and the infrastructure necessary for the handling, trans port and storage of these products has been an engineering challenge since, when moving, biomass does not usually flow as easily as other granular materials. The discrete element method （DEM） provides a means of studying the handling and silo discharge behaviour of granular solids as well as the distribution of the pressures exerted by such materials in silos. However, the development of such models requires certain properties of the particles in question to be known. The present work experimentally determines the true density, Young＇s modulus of elasticity （axial and radial）, the particleparticle restitution coeffi cient and the particlewall friction coefficientall variables that must be known in the construction of DEM modelsfor briquettes made from maize stalk, maize stalk plus pine wood chips, rice husk, vine shoots, raoe straw, cereal straw and sawdust olus cereal straw.

PtRu nanoparticles supported on noble carbons for ethanol electrooxidation

In this work,three cytosine derived nitrogen doped carbonaceous materials(noble carbons,NCs)with different atomic C/N ratios and porous networks have been synthesized and used as supports for Pt Ru electrocatalysts in the ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)for clean hydrogen ***,the metal phase and the carbon support play critical roles in the electrocatalysts final *** NPs size distribution was obtained over supports with low atomic C/N ratios(i.e.,4 and 6)and defined porosity(i.e.,1701 m^(2)g^(-1)for Pt Ru/CNZ and 1834 m^(2)g^(-1)for Pt Ru/CLZ,respectively).In contrast,a lower C/N ratio and poor porous network(i.e.,65 m^(2)g^(-1),Pt Ru/CLK)led to the largest particle size and fostered an increase of the alloying degree between Pt and Ru NPs(i.e.,3%for C/N~6 and 28%for C/N~3).Electrochemical active surface area was found to increase with decreasing NPs size and the alloy extent,due to a higher availability of Pt active *** degradation tests showed that Pt Ru/NCs outperform similar to Pt Ru NPs on commercial carbon pointing at the stabilizing effect of *** Ru/CNZ exhibited the best electrochemical performance(i.e.,69.1 m A mgPt-1),outperforming Pt Ru/CLZ and Pt Ru/CLK by3-and 9-fold,respectively,due to a suitable compromise between particle sizes,degree of alloy,textural properties and elemental *** anodes were scaled-up to a proton exchange membrane cell and Pt Ru/CNZ was proved to provide the best electrocatalytic activity(262 m A cm^(-2)and low energy requirements),matching the values obtained by the state of the art of EOR electrocatalysts.

Insulin resistance and hepatitis C

Insulin resistance is the major feature of the metabolic syndrome and depends on insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity. In chronic hepatitis C, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus are more often seen than in healthy controls or chronic hepatitis B patients. Hepatitis C virus （HCV） infection promotes insulin resistance, mainly by increased TNF production together with enhancement of suppressor of cytokine （SOC-3）; both events block PI3K and Akt phosphorylation. Two types of insulin resistance could be found in chronic hepatitis C patients＇. ＂viral＂ and ＂metabolic＂ insulin resistance. Insulin resistance in chronic hepatitis C is relevant because it promotes steatosis and fibrosis. The mechanisms by which insulin resistance promotes fibrosis progression include：（1） steatosis, （2） hyperleptinemia, （3） increased TNF production, （4） impaired expression of PPARy receptors. Lastly, insulin resistance has been found as a common denominator in patients difficult-to-treat like cirrhotics, overweight, HIV coinfected and Afro-American. Insulin resistance together with fibrosis and genotype has been found to be independently associated with impaired response rate to peginterferon plus ribavirin. Indeed, in genotype 1, the sustained response rate was twice （60%） in patients with HOMA ≤ 2 than patients with HOMA 〉 2. In experiments carried out on Huh-7 cells transfected by full length HCVRNA, interferon alpha blocks HCV replication. However, when insulin （at doses of 128 μU/mL, similar that seen in the hyperinsulinemic state） was added to interferon, the ability to block HCV replication disappeared, and the PKR synthesis was abolished. In summary, hepatitis C promotes insulin resistance and insulin resistance induces interferon resistance, steatosis and fibrosis progression.

Influence of Probiotics on the growth and Digestive Enzyme Activity of White Pacific Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

The influence of Bacillus probiotics on the digestive enzyme activity and the growth of Litopenaeus vannamei were de- termined in this study. The shrimp was treated with five percentages (1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0 and 7.5) of probiotics (Bacillus spp.) supple- mented to the feed and cultured for 45 d. The growth measured as the weight gain at the end of culturing was significantly (Pgher in probiotic-treated shrimps than that of the control (without receiving probiotics). Activities of protease and amylase, two digestive enzymes of the midgut gland and the intestine were significantly (Pgher in probiotic-treated shrimp than in the control.

The ILux^(®) compared to the mechanical meibomian gland expression for the treatment of moderate and severe meibomian gland dysfunction

AIM:To compare the safety and effectiveness of eyelid treatment with the ILux®-MgD Treatment System in one session versus five sessions of mechanical meibomian gland expression(MMgE)in patients with moderate to severe meibomian gland dysfunction(MgD).METHODS:A prospective,randomized,open-label,and controlled clinical trial that compared one session of the ILux®MgD Treatment System versus five sessions of MMgE in both eyes of 130 patients aged≥18y with Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)scores≥13,total meibomian gland scores(MgS)ofge was 58±*** total MgS scores in both treatment groups were *** follow-up,there were significant differences in total MgS and per sector with Pg generalized estimating equations corresponding to the generalized linear model for repeated means to determine the treatment relationship with total MgS,NIBUT,and *** was a significant difference between ILux®and MMgE(PgS,NI-BUT,and OSDI *** adverse events were ***:ILux®treatment compared to MMgE significantly improves symptoms and signs in patients with moderate to severe MgD for one year without adverse events.

Stress tensors and quantification of fracture patterns to analyze connectivity and potential fluid flow in a mesa landform of the Northern Andes

This work applies stress tensors inversions and quantification of fracture patterns along the Mesa de Los Santos, in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, to better understand the potential fluid flow. It thus contributes to the conceptual hydrogeological model. The area was subdivided into three blocks, separated by the NW Potreros and the Los Santos faults, having minor inner faults of different orientations. This separation facilitates the analysis of the fractures measured in the field, which in general show high dip angles and a conjugate geometry in the northern block, tension fractures(Mode I) in the central block, and a random distribution in the southwestern block. WinTensor treatment of slickensides yielded a maximum horizontal stress(SHmax) of 111o, which coincides with the WNW-ESE tensor observed from the conjugate and tension joints. We then used Frac Pa Q to generate interpolation maps of fracture intensity and density. The maps show the highest values in the central block and the lowest in the northern block,where the precipitation is higher, causing intensive rock weathering and homogenization of the fracture planes. Although the highest values of connectivity by line are found to the south of the mesa, we suggest the possibility of greater flow from the recharge zone(NE) along bedding planes and open NW-SE fractures.
