Drugs that lack the ability to cross the blood- brain barrier （BBB） need to be placed directly into the central nervous system. Our laboratory studies the involve- ment of the glutamatergic system in the aggressiveness of glioma, and some ligands of glutamate receptors cannot permeate the BBB. Here, glioma-implanted rats were treated by a technique that delivers ligands directly into the cerebrospinal fluid by puncture into the cisterna cerebel- lomedullaris. Rats were anesthetized and fixed in a rodent stereotactic device. The head was gently tilted downwards at an angle that allowed exposure of the cisterna. Injection into the cisterna was done freehand using a gingival needle coupled to a microsyringe. The efficiency of intracisternal injection was demonstrated using a methylene blue solu- tion. This type of injection is adaptable for any rodent model using small volumes of a variety of other drugs, and is an interesting method for neuroscience studies.

The objectives of this study were to apply statistical techniques to discriminate fertilization treatments of Eremanthus erythropappus（DC.） Mac *** autoregressive modeling, and to develop individual tree models for diameter and crown area（CA） projection to define management strategies for candeia plantations subjected to different fertilization treatments. This is an important tree species originating from the Brazilian Atlantic Rain forest and Savannah biomes, intensively used in the cosmetic industry. Nonetheless, to date, research has not addressed the management of natural stands or plantations of the species. Our experiment was located in Baependi, Minas gerais, Brazil, and comprised of four randomized blocks and 13 treatments. The treatments consisted of 12 different regimes of fertilization plus a control. Each sample plot was composed of 50 plants plus two border plants in a planting spacing of 2.5 9 2.0 m and undergoing pruning at 5 and 6 years of age. Starting in the second year, total tree height（H） and circumference（at 1.30 m from the ground or breast height, CBH） were measured every 6 months. Starting in the fifth year CA was measured. Tree growth varied by fertilization *** were detected by using an autoregressive approach, considering that standard statistical methods were not powerful enough to detect significant *** growth groups were formed, and maximum growth was obtained for treatment 10（NPK, 8-28-16）. Management guidelines are provided based on individual tree models for different fertilization levels.

BACKgROUND Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease corresponds to a clinical entity that affects liver function triggered by the accumulation of fat in the liver and is linked with metabolic *** To evaluate the effects of the intragastric balloon(IgB)in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease through the assessment of liver enzymes,imaging and several metabolic *** A comprehensive search was done of multiple electronic databases(MEDLINE,EMBASE,LILACS,Cochrane and google Scholar)and grey literature from their inception until February *** criteria involved patients with a body mass index>25 kg/m2 with evidence or previous diagnosis of hepatic *** analyzed before and after 6 mo of IgB removal were alanine aminotransferase(IU/L),gamma-glutamyltransferase(IU/L),glycated hemoglobin(%),triglycerides(mg/dL),systolic blood pressure(mmHg),homeostatic model assessment,abdominal circumference(cm),body mass index(kg/m2)and liver volume(cm3).RESULTS Ten retrospective cohort studies evaluating a total of 508 patients were *** 6 mo of IgB placement,this significantly reduced alanine aminotransferase[mean difference(MD):10.2,95%confidence interval(CI):8.12-12.3],gammaglutamyltransferase(MD:9.41,95%CI:6.94-11.88),glycated hemoglobin(MD:0.17%,95%CI:0.03-0.31),triglycerides(MD:38.58,95%CI:26.65-50.51),systolic pressure(MD:7.27,95%CI:4.79-9.76),homeostatic model assessment(MD:2.23%,95%CI:1.41-3.04),abdominal circumference(MD:12.12,95%CI:9.82-14.41)and body mass index(MD:5.07,95%CI:4.21-5.94).CONCLUSION IgB placement showed significant efficacy in improving alanine aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyltransferase levels in patients with metabolic dysfunctionassociated fatty liver disease as well as improving metabolic markers related to disease progression.

This study hypothesized that different land-use affect the microbial enzymatic stoichiometry and C-,N-,and P-acquisition in Brazilian semiarid ***,the enzymesβ-glucosidase(C-acquiring enzyme),urease(N-acquiring enzyme),and acid phosphatase(P-acquiring enzyme)were assessed in soil samples collected at 0−5 and 5−10 cm depth from a tropical dry forest,a protected area with Angico,a protected area with Ipê,scrub area,and an agricultural area with *** values of C-,N-,and P-acquiring enzymes were used to calculate the enzymatic C:N,C:P,and N:P *** values of C:P and N:P ratios were higher at 0−5 cm depth,while no significant variation,between soil depth,was observed for C:N *** values of C-and N-acquiring enzymes were higher at 0−5 cm in tropical dry forest areas and Angico forest,*** all land use types,the values of vectors L and A were higher than 1°and 45°,*** study showed that both land-use and soil depth influence the enzymatic stoichiometry,showing higher values of C-and N-acquiring enzymes in native and protected forests at soil surface.
