The phase-field and lattice Boltzmann methods have been combined to simulate the growth of solid particles moving in melt *** handle mobile particles,an overlapping multigrid scheme was developed,in which each individual particle has its own moving grid,with local fields attached to *** this approach we were able to simulate simultaneous binary solidification,solute diffusion,melt flow,solid motion,the effect of gravity,and collision of the *** method has been applied for describing two possible modes of columnar to equiaxed transition in the Al–Ti system.

Telechelic polymers have attained great consideration as building blocks in the synthesis of block copolymers and networks. Telechelic polymers with various endgroups are also widely used materials for the preparation of polymeric prodrugs. several methods have been reported to obtain functionalized polymers from the corresponding polyisobutylene (PIB) and polyether derivatives. In this presentation, we will demonstrate very versatile and powerful synthetic methods to obtain telechelic polymers.

The 6 August 2023 MW5.5 Pingyuan earthquake is the largest earthquake in the central North China Plain (NCP) over the past two decades. Due to the thick sedimentary cover, no corresponding active faults have been reported yet in the epicenter area. Thus, this earthquake presents a unique opportunity to delve into the buried active faults beneath the NCP. By integrating strong ground motion records, high-precision aftershock sequence relocation, and focal mechanism solutions, we gain insights into the seismotectonics of the Pingyuan earthquake. The aftershocks are clustered at depths ranging from 15 to 20 km and delineate a NE-sW trend, consistent with the distribution of ground motion records. A NE-sW nodal plane (226°) of the focal mechanism solutions is also derived from regional waveform inversion, suggesting that the mainshock was dominated by strike-slip motion with minor normal faulting component. Integrating regional geological data, we propose that an unrecognized fault between the NE-sW trending gaotang and lingxian-Yangxin faults is the seismogenic fault of this event. Based on the s-wave velocity structure beneath the NCP, this fault probably extends into the lower crust with a high angle. Considering the tectonic regime and stress state, we speculate that the interplay of shear strain between the Amurian and south China blocks and the hot upwelling magma from the subducted paleo Pacific flat slab significantly contributed to the generation of the Pingyuan earthquake. © 2024 The Authors

In this study,we investigated how tree species affect N mineralization in connection to some soil properties and seconder metabolite levels of litter,in the soil of the old-est native forest *** the oldest pure communi-ties of Pinus nigra(PN),Fagus orientalis(FO),and Abies bornmuelleriana(AB)in the mountain range of Mount Uludağ,Bursa,Turkey,annual net yield and N mineraliza-tion in the 0-5-and 5-20-cm soil layers were determined in a field incubation study over 1 *** locations were chosen from 1300 to 1600 m a.s.l.,and moisture content(%),pH,water-holding capacity(%),organic C,total N,and C/N ratio,and annual net mineral N yield of the soil and hydro-lyzed tannic acid and total phenolic compounds in litter were compared for these forest *** had the highest annual net Nmin yield(43.9±4.8 kg ha^(-1) a^(-1)),*** the lowest(30.5±4.2 kg ha^(-1) a^(-1)).Our findings show that in the oldest forest ecosystems,the seasonal soil moisture content and tree species play an essential role in N cycling and that hydrolyzed tannic acids and total phenolic compounds effectively control N *** acid and total phenolics in the litter were found to inhibit nitrification,but total phenolics were found to stimulate ammonification.
