Cervical inlet patch-optical coherence tomography imaging and clinical significance

AIm:To demonstrate the feasibility of optical coherence tomography(OCT)imaging in differentiating cervical inlet patch(CIP)from normal esophagus,Barrett'sesophagus(BE),normal stomach and duodenum. mETHODS:This study was conducted at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System(VABHS).Patients undergoing standard esophagogastroduodenoscopy at VABHS,including one patient with CIP,one representative patient with BE and three representative normal subjects were *** light video endoscopy was performed and endoscopic 3D-OCT images were obtained in each patient using a prototype OCT *** OCT imaging probe passes through the working channel of the endoscope to enable simultaneous video endoscopy and 3D-OCT examination of the human gastrointestinal(gI)*** hematoxylin and eosin(H and E)histology was performed on biopsy or endoscopic mucosal resection specimens in order to compare and validate the 3D-OCT data. RESULTS:CIP was observed from a 68-year old male with gastroesophageal reflux *** CIP region appeared as a pink circular lesion in the upper esophagus under white light *** imaging over the CIP region showed columnar epithelium structure,which clearly contrasted the squamous epithelium structure from adjacent normal esophagus.3D-OCT images obtained from other representative patients demonstrated distinctive patterns of the normal esophagus,BE,normal stomach,and normal duodenum ***,such as squamous epithelium,lamina propria, muscularis mucosa,muscularis propria,esophageal glands,Barrett's glands,gastric mucosa,gastric glands, and intestinal mucosal villi were clearly observed with OCT and matched with H and E *** results demonstrated the feasibility of using OCT to evaluate gI tissue morphology in situ and in real-time. CONCLUSION:We demonstrate in situ evaluation of CIP microstructures using 3D-OCT,which may be a useful tool for future diagnosis and follow-up of patients with CIP.

Illegal production of alcoholic beverages is a common problem in most *** consumption of these counterfeit alcoholic products in Turkey has increasingly been one of the major health *** this study,a comparison between gC-mS and Raman spectroscopy techniques was made to determine the amount of methanol in BogmaRaki which is a counterfeit alcoholic beverage produced and consumed in Hatay *** ratios of methanol/ethanol concentrations were prepared to obtain a calibration *** curve was used to measure the amount of methanol in the actual product samples using both gC-mS and Raman spectroscopy *** obtained from both techniques were compared using Paired sample *** Limit of Detection and the Limit of Quantification values were determined as 0.03(%v/v) and 0.11(%v/v),*** techniques demonstrated a similar sensitivity in the determination of methanol concentration in these counterfeit products(p>0.05).Raman Spectroscopy,however,has an advantage of being easy to use,inexpensive,rapid and non-destructive analytical technique with little or no sample preparation.

A high rate of improper antibiotic dispensing was reported to patients with presumed viral infections even without a prescription from a physician in Vietnam[1]. Imprudent antibiotic dispensing and use were also observed in other countries, including the Philippines. A large number of patients experienced respiratory symptoms, such as cough and rhinorrhea during the COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated this problem with antibiotic use.

Numerous scientific challenges arise when designing a soil monitoring network (SmN), especially when assessing large areas and several properties that are driven by numerous controlling factors of various origins and scales. Different broad approaches to the establishment of SmNs are distinguished. It is essential to establish an adequate sampling protocol that can be applied rigorously at each sampling location and time. We make recommendations regarding the within-site sampling of soil. Different statistical methods should be associated with the different types of sampling design. We review new statistical methods that account for different sources of uncertainty. Except for those parameters for which a consensus exists, the question of testing.method harmonisation remains a very difficult issue. The establishment of benchmark sites devoted to harmonisation and inter-calibration is advocated as a technical solution. However, to our present knowledge, no study has addressed crucial scientific issues such as how many calibration sites are necessary and how to locate them.

Despite its proximity to other well studied islands, Cebu has received little attention from herpetologists, most likely because of early deforestation and the perception very little natural habitat remains for amphibians and reptiles. In this study, we present a preliminary assessment of island＇s herpetofauna, focusing our field work on Cebu＇s last remaining forest fragments and synthesizing all available historical museum distribution data. We surveyed amphibians and reptile populations using standardized methods to allow for comparisons between sites and assess sufficiency of sampling effort. Fieldwork resulted in a total of 27 species recorded from five study sites, complementing the 58 species previously known from the island. Together, our data and historical museum records increase the known number of Cebu＇s resident species to 13 amphibians（frogs） and 63 reptiles（lizards, snakes, turtle, crocodile）. We recorded the continued persistence Cebu＇s rare and endemic lizard（Brachymeles cebuensis） and secretive snakes such as malayotyphlops hypogius, and Ramphotyhlops cumingii, which persist despite Cebu＇s long history of widespread and continuous habitat degradation. most species encountered, including common and widespread taxa, appeared to persist at low population abundances. To facilitate the immediate recovery of the remaining forest fragments, and resident herpetofauna, conservation effort must be sustained. However, prior to any conservation interventions, ecological baselines must be established to inform the process of recovery.

Interleaved high-gain boost converter powered by solar energy using hybrid-based mPP tracking technique

This paper presents a solar-powered interleaved high-gain boost converter(IHgBC)that increases voltage gain with fewer ripples in the output voltage in comparison to existing DC-DC *** goal of this research is to develop a hybrid-based maximum power point tracking.mPPT)approach with the combination of a flower pollination(FP)algorithm assisted with a perturb&observe(P&O)mPPT approach for solar photovoltaic(SPV)systems integrated with *** ensure effective usage of both FP and P&O algorithms,this study incorporates and validates the hybrid-based mPPT *** proposed solar-powered IHgBC with a hybrid-based mPPT algorithm has been computationally modelled and simulated using.mATLAB®and Simulink®for both uniform and non-uniform irradiation and analysed for voltage gain,ripples in the output waveforms and convergence *** proposed hybrid-based mPPT is based on a number of flowers that forecast the initial global peak,assisted by P&O in the last stage for faster convergence to attain the maximum power point(mPP).As a result,the hybrid-based mPPT approach alleviates the computational issues encountered in P&O and FP-based mPP *** proposed hybrid mPPT is compared with conventional mPPT for SPV and the results show that the solar-powered IHgBC using a hybrid-based mPPT technique has negligible oscillations of 0.14%with a high-voltage gain of 7.992 and a fast convergence rate of 0.05 seconds compared to individual P&O-based mPPT and FP-based mPPT *** simulation results of the proposed mPPT with IHgBC outperform the conventional mPPT with high-gain converters.

Characterization and Selection of Phosphorus Deficiency Tolerant Rice genotypes in Sri Lanka

Phosphorus(P) deficiency in soil is a major constrain for rice production. An important set of rice genotypes(landraces, old improved and new improved varieties) were screened for P deficiency tolerance in two major cropping seasons of Sri Lanka, in 2012. The Ultisol soil, which was collected from a plot cultivated with rice without fertilizer application for past 40 years(P_0) at the Rice Research and Development Institute(RRDI), Bathalagoda, Sri Lanka, was used as the potting.medium for greenhouse trials. Two field trials were conducted in the same plots at RRDI. Both P_0 and P_(30)(30 mg/kg P_2O_5) conditions were used in the two greenhouse trials. At the early vegetative(three weeks after transplanting), late vegetative(six weeks after transplanting) and flowering stages, plant height and number of tillers per plant were recorded. At the flowering stage, shoots were harvested and shoot dry weight, shoot P concentration, shoot P uptake and P utilization efficiency were measured. All data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance, regression and cluster procedures. The measured parameters were significantly different between P_0 and P_(30) conditions(P gher shoot dry weight was reported by the rice genotypes H4 and marss under P_0 conditions. The regression analysis between shoot dry weight and P utilization efficiency revealed that the studied rice genotypes could be categorized to three P deficiency tolerance classes. A total of 13 genotypes could be considered as highly tolerant and 4 genotypes as sensitive for P deficiency. These results could be used to select parental genotypes for breeding and genetic studies and also to select interesting varieties or landraces for organic rice production.

Exploitation of the antibacterial,antibiofilm and antioxidant activities of Salvadora Persica(miswak)extract

The Salvadora persica(***)*** stick,usually known as miswak,is still being em-ployed as an oral hygiene agent for plaque and gingivitis *** study aims to assess the antibacterial,antibiofilm,antioxidant,and phytochemical profile of *** *** ***-sica was purchased from a local market,grinded and extracted with petroleum *** disk dif-fusion,microdilution,and micro-plate assays were performed to evaluate the antibacterial and an-tibiofilm activities of the prepared extract at different concentrations against𝛽-lactam resistance Streptococcus *** radical scavenging 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and stable radical cationic chromophore,2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate)(ABTS)methods were used to determine their antioxidant *** and spectrometric analyses were performed using gas chromatography-mass(gC-mS)*** minimum inhibitory concentration(mIC)of *** extract against𝛽-lactam resistance Streptococcus species ranged from 6.25 to 12.5 mg/*** maximum suppression of biofilm formation by *** extract was observed at mIC with a percentage of 68.66%,against Streptococcus *** *** ex-tract exhibited antioxidant activity with IC 50 of 20μg.mL and 35μg.mL from DPPH and ABTS,*** phytochemical characterization showed the presence of 22 compounds with ma-jor compounds;benzyl isothiocyanate(36.21%)and n-hexadecanoic acid(27.62%).The *** extract exhibited antibacterial activity against𝛽-lactam resistant Streptococcus species,showing a promising natural alternative that could be a treatment option.
