Touristic urbanization and greening of coastal dune fields:A long-term assessment of a temperate sandy barrier of Argentina

Dune barrier systems represent highly sought-after coastal landscapes for tourism and urban development around the world. However, a century ago, they were considered hazardous environments due to their great dynamic nature. As a result, stabilization practices were considered necessary. The systematic introduction of fast-growing exotic trees helped stabilize the sand, making it easier for tourism urbanization to take place, but also leading to erosion processes. This paper aims to assess long-term changes in vegetation cover over a large temperate barrier in Argentina. This complex region includes urban resorts, afforestation zones, and protected areas. A gIs-based geospatial analysis was conducted using a large satellite database(> 350 images), and the future evolution of the vegetation was modeled. The results revealed two primary spatiotemporal patterns associated with a gradual expansion of vegetation cover, accompanied by a concurrent reduction in sandy areas. In 1986, the dune area comprised 75% more surface than vegetation, whereas in 2021, it represented 60% less than vegetation. Furthermore, the 2050 scenario suggests a potential 40% reduction of dunes in certain areas. It is necessary to enhance management actions aimed at maintaining dune mobility and ensuring local and regional sediment balance. Long-term management strategies must focus on restoring native plant communities and controlling invasive species, and avoiding new dune fixation initiatives based on the introduction of exotic species.

There is a strong evidence supporting the hypothesis of synaptic dysfunction as a major contributor to neural circuit and network disruption underlying emotional and mood dysregulation in psychiatric disorders(simmons et al.,2024).Diverse sets of distinct molecular signaling pathways converge on the synapse to regulate synaptogenesis,synaptic function,and synaptic plasticity in brain regions and circuits through complex interactions organized by numerous multivalent protein scaffolds,including the family of proteins known as A-kinase anchoring proteins(AKAPs).

A study of superconducting La<sub>2</sub>CuO<sub>4</sub>via generalized BCs Equations Incorporating Chemical Potential

We address the Tc (s) and multiple gaps of La2CuO4 (LCO) via generalized BCs equations incorporating chemical potential. Appealing to the structure of the unit cell of LCO, which comprises sub- lattices with LaO and OLa layers and brings into play two Debye temperatures, the concept of itinerancy of electrons, and an insight provided by Tacon et al.’s recent experimental work concerned with YBa2Cu3O6.6 which reveals that very large electron-phonon coupling can occur in a very narrow region of phonon wavelengths, we are enabled to account for all values of its gap-to-Tc ratio (2Δ0/kBTc), i.e., 4.3, 7.1, ≈8 and 9.3, which were reported by Bednorz and Müller in their Nobel lecture. Our study predicts carrier concentrations corresponding to these gap values to lie in the range 1.3 × 1021 - 5.6 × 1021 cm-3, and values of 0.27 - 0.29 and 1.12 for the gap-to-Tc ratios of the smaller gaps.

Nonlinear vibration analysis of laminated composite Mindlin micro/nano-plates resting on orthotropic Pasternak medium using DQM

The nonlocal nonlinear vibration analysis of embedded laminated micro- plates resting on an elastic matrix as an orthotropic Pasternak medium is investigated. The small size effects of micro/nano-plate are considered based on the Eringen nonlocal theory. Based on the orthotropic Mindlin plate theory along with the von Kármán geo- metric nonlinearity and Hamilton＇s principle, the governing equations are derived. The differential quadrature method （DQM） is applied for obtaining the nonlinear frequency of system. The effects of different parameters such as nonlocal parameters, elastic me- dia, aspect ratios, and boundary conditions are considered on the nonlinear vibration of the micro-plate. Results show that considering elastic medium increases the nonlinear frequency of system. F^lrthermore, the effect of boundary conditions becomes lower at higher nonlocal parameters.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted pesticide application for pest and disease prevention and control in rice

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as innovative tools in agriculture, revolutionizing crop protection practices and the use of pesticide combinations to aid the management of insect pests and diseases in a single application. This research delves into assessing the efficacy of drone-based pesticide spraying utilizing combinations of pesticides to combat insect pests and diseases in rice cultivation. In kharif 2022, the physically compatible combination of insecticides (chlorantraniliprole 18.5% sC and tetraniliprole 200 sC) with fungicides (picoxystrobin 7.5%+tricyclazole 22.5% sC and tebuconazole 50%+trifloxystrobin 25% Wg) were administered via drones and compared with conventional Taiwan sprayer. The results indicated that tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin, when applied via drones, exhibited the highest control efficacy against the brown spot, sheath blight, and sheath rot (47.8%, 77.4%, and 75.2% respectively). Moreover, combination treatment, i.e., tetraniliprole+(tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin), applied using a drone, achieved the most effective control (78.1%) against grain discoloration. Additionally, drone-based tetraniliprole application showed effectiveness against stem borer and whorl maggot (efficacy rates of 49.1%, 66.6%, and 60.7% for dead hearts, white ear, and whorl maggot, respectively). Overall, the pesticide combination treatment, i.e., tetraniliprole+(tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin), showed higher control efficacy against all the insect pests and diseases and recorded the highest grain yield of 7995 kg/hm2 with an incremental cost-benefit ratio (ICBR) of (1:5.63) when sprayed with a drone. Overall, this study underscores the potential of drone-assisted pesticide application in effectively managing multiple insect pests and diseases in rice, offering superior precision, efficacy, efficiency, and yield.

Hydromagnetic oscillatory Couette flow in rotating system with induced magnetic field

This paper presents a study of hydromagnetic Couette flow of an incompress- ible and electrically conducting fluid between two parallel rotating plates, one of which is oscillating in its own plane. A uniform transverse magnetic field is used, and the induced magnetic field is taken into account. The exact solution to the governing equations is obtained in a closed form. The solution to the problem in the case of vanishing and small finite magnetic Prandtl numbers is also derived from the general solution. The asymp- totic behavior of the solution for large values of the frequency parameter is analyzed to gain some physical insights into the flow pattern. Expressions for the shear stress at both the oscillatory and stationary plates due to primary and secondary flows and mass flow rate in the primary and secondary flow directions are also obtained. The results of the fluid velocity and the induced magnetic field are presented. The shear stresses on the plates due to the primary and secondary flows and the corresponding mass flow rates are presented in a tabular form.

Macroscopic studies on the Properties of the Anodic Oxide Films on Titanium

The effect of fluoride ions on the formation and dissolution behaviour of anodic oxide films on Ti has been investigated in acidic fluoride media (pH=1) using impedance and galvanostatic techniques. A5 the fluoride ion concentration and temperature increase the rate of oxide film formation decreases while the dissolution process increases. oxide film formed at high tem-perature and formation voltage was found to contain more defect sites in the film than that formed at a lower one. Activation energies are calculated during the oxide film formation and dissolution and found to be 20.76 and 28.72 kJ/mol, respectively. Formation rate and reciprocal capacitance data are reported as a function of polarizing current density. Values are recorded for the electrolytic parameters A and B. Potentiostatic curves are derived from the galvanostatic results.
