Clinical assessment of demineralization and remineralization surrounding orthodontic brackets with FluoreCam

Objective: To determine quantitatively the amount of demineralization and the ability of commercially available products and an experimental cream to inhibit or reverse orthodontic related ***: A total of 20 patients who were 25–35 years old and having orthodontic treatment for 6–8 months were *** risk assessments were done for each patient and ones with "moderate risk" were *** with fixed orthodontic appliances were divided into 4 groups(5 patients each) including one control and 3 study *** patients used same toothpaste 2 times a day during the 3 weeks study *** to the toothpaste first study group used MI Paste Plus(GC, Tokyo, Japan), second study group used Remin Pro(Voco, Cuxhaven, Germany) and third group used an experimental remineralizing cream per day for 3 *** central and lateral incisors of each patient were examined by FluoreCam(Daraza Therametric Technologies, USA) *** examinations were performed at baseline and at the end of 1st, 2nd and 3rd ***: According to the FluoreCam measurements the control group showed significant amount of demineralization at the end of 3 weeks, moreover the amount of demineralization has gradually increased in *** the end of the study all 3 study groups showed significant amount of remineralization and the amount of remineralization for all the 3 study groups has gradually increased in *** the amount of remineralization for 3rd study group was lesser than the 1st and 2nd study *** remineralization amounts for the 1st and 2 nd study groups were determined to be ***: This study demonstrated that demineralization is measurable around orthodontic brackets and the demineralization can be completely inhibited and/or reversed by the use of commercially available remineralization products.

Effectiveness of some herbals on initial enamel caries lesion

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of herbal medicaments such as ginger, rosemary and honey on remineralization of initial enamel ***: Demineralized human enamel specimens were measured for baseline surface microhardness and fluorescence methods. Ten specimens in each of four groups were used in this in vitro recycling study with the following treatments which applied three times a day: 1) sodium fluoride toothpaste(Ipana, Procter & Gamble, Turkey), 2) gingerhoney(Arifoglu Herbals, Anzer Honey, Turkey), 3) ginger-honey-chocolate(Bind Chocolate, Turkey), 4) rosemary oil(Arifoglu Herbals, Turkey). Treatment regimens of demineralization and remineralization cycle were applied for 21 days. The post-treatment data were obtained by measurements of surface microhardness and fluorescence *** were statistically analyzed by ANOVA test with Tukey's honest significant difference ***: Enhanced remineralization was observed with several of the treatment systems including ginger + honey and rosemary. Significant differences between treatments were observed by microhardness and Fluore Cam fluorescence assesment, compared to the positive control group(Na F dentifrice). Significantly, greater remineralization was observed with the honey + ginger treatment regimen. No significant differences between groups were observed using the fluorescence assessment method, quantitative lightinduced ***: Herbals(ginger, honey and rosemary) have enhanced remineralization of initial enamel lesion.

Exploring the therapeutic potential of microwave-assisted biosynthesized silver nanoparticles using Erica manipuliflora Salisb.:A comprehensive study on anticancer and antibacterial potentials

Silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)continue to attract interest due to their potential applications in biomedicine,especially in relation to their antibacterial and anticancer *** this respect,it is important to develop biosynthesis techniques that are environmentally friendly and include new *** is the first report on microwave-assisted green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Erica manipuliflora Salisb.(E.m AgNPs).In this study,the anti-cancer and antibacterial activity of E.m AgNPs and *** extracts were *** of E.m AgNPs were performed using UV–Vis spectroscopy FT-IR,XRD,SEM and TEM *** UV–Vis absorption spectrum showed the characteristic peak of E.m AgNPs atλmax=425 *** SEM and TEM results indicated that the nanoparticles were spherical and ranged in size from 2.45 to 9.95 *** antibacterial results,it was determined that E.m AgNPs(50 mg mL^(−1))(8.4–21.1 mm ZOI)caused more effective inhibition on both gram positive(Bacillus subtilis,Staphylococcus aureus,Enterococcus faecalis)and gram negative(Escherichia coli)bacteria compared to all plant extracts(50 mg mL^(−1))(8.13–17.16 mm ZOI).Among the cancer(MCF-7 and HT-29)and healthy(HaCaT and HEK-293)cell lines,E.m AgNPs exhibited the highest cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells(IC50:87.22μg mL^(−1)).The hexane extract was the most effective inhibitory extract on cell proliferation of all cell lines and showed the highest cell inhibition in MCF-7 cells(IC50:43.06μg mL^(−1)).The results revealed that both E.m AgNPs and *** extracts showed promising antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacterial strains and had potential anticancer activity.

Photogrammetric Analysis of Multiple Implant Abutment Impressions under Different Conditions

Purpose: The aim of this investigation was to evaluate and compare the dimensional accuracy of hydrophilic polysiloxane, vinyl polysiloxane (VPS), and polyether (PE) impression materials under dry, moist and wet conditions. Methods: An acrylic master model including 6 implants was formed, and 108 impressions were made up of this acrylic model at total. In this study, the materials of hydrophilic polysiloxane impression material, 1 hydrophilic vinyl polysiloxane impression material and 1 polyether impression material were tested. Twelve impression of each material were created under dry, moist and wet respectively. Two reference distances were evaluated on each study model by using a graphics-editing program whereas for comparison of mean dimensional changes one-way analysis of variance and Student t-test were used. Results: One-way analysis of variance revealed significant differences between impression materials and conditions (P P Conclusions: All impression materials showed a statistically significant difference under dry, moist and wet conditions.

Color Changes of Polyamid and Polymetyhl Methacrylate Denture Base Materials

Aim: Both conventional and flexible resins may show color alteration due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the color changes of the polyamid and heat polymerized acrylic denture base materials in storage of different staining solutions. Methods: Two denture base materials were used in this study. The speciemens were stored in two staining solutions (tea, coffee), distilled water and denture cleaner. For each group, 14 speciemens (25 × 15 × 2.5 mm) were prepared. The color of speciemens was measured using a colorimeter according to the CIE L*a*b* color scale. The color changes of speciemens were evaluated before and after 7 and 30 days. All data recorded were taken by the same investigator to minimize inconstancy of technique. The data were analyzed statistically by repeated measures analysis of variance and Tukey honestly significant difference multiple comparison tests. It was found no statistically significant difference between solutions (P > 0.05). Results: Polyamid denture base resin displayed the greatest colour change when compared to polymetyhl methacrylate denture base resin (P < 0.001). Polyamid material indicated the highest value (ΔE: 7.28) in coffee solution for 7 days. Significance: The colour stability of polymetyhl methacrylate denture base resin is greater than polyamid denture base resin.

Flexural Strength of Temporary Restorative Materials Stored in Different Solutions

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different solutions on the flexural strength of one methacrylate-based resin and three bis-acryl resin provisional materials using an in vitro model test system. Methods: The specimens (25 × 2 × 2 mm) were prepared from interim materials and stored for 14 days at 37°C in different solutions (coffee, burn, cola) and distilled water (control group). A standard three-point bending test was conducted on the specimens with an Instron universal testing machine at crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Data were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance and Tukey HSD multiple comprasion tests. Results: The methacry-late-based resin (Takilon) showed the least fracture strength (61.6 - 85.6 MPa). One of the bis-acryl resins (Protemp 4-3M ESPE) showed the highest fracture strength (112 - 128 MPa). Conclusions: All bis-acryl resin composite materials exhibited high fracture strength over the traditional methyl methacrylate resin throughout the 14 day time interval of investigation. The different solutions have not statistically significant effect on the flexure strength values on four temporary materials.

Determination of epidemic parameters from early phase fatality data： A case study of the 2009 A（H1N1） pandemic in Europe

This paper demonstrates that the susceptible-infected-removed （SIR） model applied to the early phase of an epidemic can be used to determine epidemic parameters reliably. As a case study, the SIR model is applied to the fatality data of the 2009 fall wave cycle of the A（H1N1） pandemic in 12 European countries. It is observed that the best estimates of the basic reproduction number R0 and the mean duration of the infection period l/r/ lie on a curve in the scatterplots, indicating the existence of a nearly-invariant quantity which corresponds to the duration of the epidemic. Spline interpolation applied to the early phase of the epidemic, an approximately 10-week period, together with a future control point in the stabilization region, is sufficient to estimate model parameters. The SIR model is run over a wide range of parameters and estimates of R0 in the range 1.2- 2.0 match the values in the literature. The duration of the infection period, 1/η is estimated to be in the range 2.0-7.0 days. Longer infection periods are tied to spatial characteristics of the spread of the epidemic.

Temperature and Thickness Effects on Electrical Properties of InP Films Deposited by Spray Pyrolysis

InP film samples are prepared by spray pyrolysis technique using aqueous solutions of InCl3 and Na2HPO4, which are atomized with compressed air as carrier gas onto glass substrates at 500° C with different thicknesses of the films. The structural properties of the samples are determined by x-ray diffraction （XRD）. It is found that the crystal structure of the InP films is polycrystalline hexagonal. The orientations of all the obtained films are along the c-axis perpendicular to the substrate. The electrical measurements of the samples are obtained by dc four-probe technique on rectangular-shape samples. The effects of temperature on the electrical properties of the InP films are studied in detail.
