The uplink capacity evaluation of cellular multiple input multiple output （MIMO） system is of great interest but not straight forward.This paper presents a framework to evaluate the uplink cellular capacity.In this framework,the effects of cochannel interference （CCI） as well as the effects of transmit power control （TPC） have been taken into consideration.The uplink capacities assuming various frequency reuse factors （FRF） and different TPC schemes are evaluated and demonstrated by simulation results.

Even though various wireless Network Access Technologies(NATs)with different specifications and applications have been developed in the recent years,no single wireless technology alone can satisfy the anytime,anywhere,and any service wireless-access needs of mobile users.A real seamless wireless mobile environment is only realized by considering vertical and horizontal handoffs together.One of the major design issues in heterogeneous wireless networks is the support of Vertical Handoff(VHO).VHO occurs when a multi-interface enabled mobile terminal changes its Point of Attachment(PoA)from one type of wireless access technology to another,while maintaining an active session.In this paper we present a novel multi-criteria VHO algorithm,which chooses the target NAT based on several factors such as user preferences,system parameters,and traffic-types with varying Quality of Service(QoS)requirements.Two modules i.e.,VHO Necessity Estimation(VHONE)module and target NAT selection module,are designed.Both modules utilize several"weighted"users’and system’s parameters.To improve the robustness of the proposed algorithm,the weighting system is designed based on the concept of fuzzy linguistic variables.

Probing CO on a rutile TiO_(2)(110)surface using atomic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy

Probing CO at a specific site on a metal oxide surface is essential for characterizing various applications such as CO oxidation,hydrogenation,and water–gas shift reaction.Herein,we use atomic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy to probe the CO on a rutile TiO_(2)(110)surface.Our results indicate that CO can be manipulated along the Ti row by the repulsive lateral force of“pushing”mode.Furthermore,the joint combination of precise manipulation and the distance dependence of local contact potential difference allow us to resolve the interatomic dipole moment and charge state of CO at atomic resolution.Therefore,we found that the negatively charged CO with the dipole moment of negative pole down on the rutile TiO_(2)(110)surface.Our results suppose that both the charge state as well as the on-surface dipole interaction are very effective for CO reaction on rutile TiO_(2)(110)surface.

FORSETI: A visual analysis environment enabling provenance awareness for the accountability of e-autopsy reports

Autopsy reports play a pivotal role in forensic science.Medical examiners(MEs)and diagnostic radiologists(DRs)cross-reference autopsy results in the form of autopsy reports,while judicial personnel derive legal documents from final autopsy reports.In our prior study,we presented a visual analysis system called the forensic autopsy system for e-court instruments(FORSETI)with an extended legal medicine markup language(x-LMML)that enables MEs and DRs to author and review e-autopsy reports.In this paper,we present our extended work to incorporate provenance infrastructure with authority management into FORSETI for forensic data accountability,which contains two features.The first is a novel provenance management mechanism that combines the forensic autopsy workflow management system(FAWfMS)and a version control system called lmmlgit for x-LMML files.This management mechanism allows much provenance data on e-autopsy reports and their documented autopsy processes to be individually parsed.The second is provenance-supported immersive analytics,which is intended to ensure that the DRs’and MEs’autopsy provenances can be viewed,listed,and analyzed so that a principal ME can author their own report through accountable autopsy referencing in an augmented reality setting.A fictitious case with a synthetic wounded body is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the provenance-aware FORSETI system in terms of data accountability through the experience of experts in legal medicine.

BACKGROUND Liver transplantation is a therapy for irreversible liver failure;however,at present,donor organs are in short supply.Cell transplantation therapy for liver failure is still at the developmental stage and is critically limited by a shortage of human primary hepatocytes.AIM To investigate the possibility that hepatic progenitor cells(HPCs)prepared from the portal branch-ligated hepatic lobe may be used in regenerative medicine,we attempted to enable the implantation of extracellular matrices containing organoids consisting of HPC-derived hepatocytes and non-parenchymal cells.METHODS In vitro liver organoid tissue has been generated by accumulating collagen fibrils,fibroblasts,and HPCs on a mesh of polylactic acid fabric using a bioreactor;this was subsequently implanted into syngeneic wild-type mice.RESULTS The in vitro liver organoid tissues generated transplantable tissues in the condensed collagen fibril matrix and were obtained from the mouse through partial hepatectomy.CONCLUSION Liver organoid tissue was produced from expanded HPCs using an originally designed bioreactor system.This tissue was comparable to liver lobules,and with fibroblasts embedded in the network collagen fibrils of this artificial tissue,it is useful for reconstructing the hepatic interstitial structure.

During tunnel boring machine(TBM)excavation,lithology identification is an important issue to understand tunnelling performance and avoid time-consuming excavation.However,site investigation generally lacks ground samples and the information is subjective,heterogeneous,and imbalanced due to mixed ground conditions.In this study,an unsupervised(K-means)and synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE)-guided light-gradient boosting machine(LightGBM)classifier is proposed to identify the soft ground tunnel classification and determine the imbalanced issue of tunnelling data.During the tunnel excavation,an earth pressure balance(EPB)TBM recorded 18 different operational parameters along with the three main tunnel lithologies.The proposed model is applied using Python low-code PyCaret library.Next,four decision tree-based classifiers were obtained in a short time period with automatic hyperparameter tuning to determine the best model for clustering-guided SMOTE application.In addition,the Shapley additive explanation(SHAP)was implemented to avoid the model black box problem.The proposed model was evaluated using different metrics such as accuracy,F1 score,precision,recall,and receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve to obtain a reasonable outcome for the minority class.It shows that the proposed model can provide significant tunnel lithology identification based on the operational parameters of EPB-TBM.The proposed method can be applied to heterogeneous tunnel formations with several TBM operational parameters to describe the tunnel lithologies for efficient tunnelling.

Associations of body mass index and hospital-acquired disability with post-discharge mortality in older patients with acute heart failure

OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of hospital-acquired disability(HAD)on all-cause mortality after discharge according to the body mass index(BMI)in older patients with acute decompensated heart failure.METHODS We included 408 patients aged≥65 years who were hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure and had undergone an acute phase of cardiac rehabilitation at the Sakakibara Heart Institute between April 2013 and September 2015(me-dian age:82 years,interquartile range(IQR):76-86;52%male).Patients were divided into three groups based on BMI at hospital admission:underweight(<18.5 kg/m^(2)),normal weight(18.5 to 25 kg/m^(2)),and overweight(≥25 kg/m^(2)).HAD was defined as a decrease of at least five points at discharge compared to before hospitalization according to the Barthel Index.RESULTS The median follow-up period was 475(IQR:292-730)days,and all-cause mortality during the follow-up period was 84 deaths(21%).According to multivariate Cox regression analysis,being underweight(HR:1.941,95%CI:1.134−3.321,P=0.016)or overweight(HR:0.371,95%CI:0.171−0.803,P=0.012),with normal BMI as the reference,and HAD(HR:1.857,95%CI:1.062−3.250,P=0.030)were independently associated with all-cause mortality.Patients with HAD exhibited a significantly lower cumulative survival rate in the underweight group(P=0.001)and tended to have a lower cumulative survival rate in the normal weight group(P=0.072).HAD was not significantly associated with cumulative survival in the overweight group(P=0.392).CONCLUSIONS BMI and HAD independently predicted all-cause mortality after discharge in older patients with acute de-compensated heart failure.Furthermore,HAD was significantly associated with higher all-cause mortality after discharge,espe-cially in the underweight group.

BACKGROUND Although superior vena cava(SVC)syndrome has also been reported as a late complication of pacemaker(PM)implantation,acute onset of SVC syndrome caused by disdialysis syndrome in patients with PM implantation is very rare.There are no specific therapies or guidelines.CASE SUMMARY A 96-year-old woman receiving dialysis was implanted with a PM due to sick sinus syndrome.She was referred to our facility for chest discomfort experienced during dialysis.Upon examination,unilateral pleural effusion on the right side was cloudy with a foul odour.The patient was diagnosed with pyothorax and treated with antibiotics.After the effusion was reduced,it gradually reaggravated and remained cloudy.In this case,SVC syndrome,which is generally considered a late complication after PM implantation,rapidly developed following the bacteraemia,resulting in impaired venous return,chylothorax,and disdialysis syndrome.After catheter intervention for SVC stenosis,the patient’s symptoms promptly improved.The patient has been recurrence-free for a year.CONCLUSION Acute SVC syndrome can cause dysdialysis in PM-implanted patients.Catheter intervention alone has improved this condition for a traceable period.

Neurogenesis is currently an area of great interest in neuroscience.It is closely linked to brain diseases,including mental disorders and neurodevelopmental disease.Both embryonic and adult neurogeneses are influenced by glucocorticoids secreted from the adrenal glands in response to a variety of stressors.Moreover,proliferation/differentiation of the neural stem/progenitor cells（NSPCs）is affected by glucocorticoids through intracellular signaling pathways such as phosphoinositide 3-kinase（PI3K）/Akt,hedgehog,and Wnt.Our review presents recent evidence of the impact of glucocorticoids on NSPC behaviors and the underlying molecular mechanisms;this provides important information for understanding the pathological role of glucocorticoids on neurogenesis-associated brain diseases.
