Probability discounting is defined as th. devaluation of outcomes as th. probability of receiving or paying th.se decreases. A q-exponential probability discounting model based on Tsallis’ statistics h.s been proposed in econoph.sics (Takah.sh., 2007, Ph.sica A). We examined (a) fitness of th. models to beh.vioral data of probability discounting of both.gain and loss;and (b) relationsh.ps between parameters in th. q-exponential probability discounting model across gain and loss. Our results demonstrated th.t, for both.gain and loss, th. q-exponential model better fits th. beh.vioral data th.n exponential and h.perbolic functions, and th.re is th. sign effect in q-exponential probability discounting. Relationsh.ps between Kah.eman-Tversky’s prospect th.ory in beh.vioral economics and th. q-exponential probability discounting are h.gh.ligh.ened.

BACKGROUND It is unclear wh.th.r treatment delay affects th. clinical outcomes of ch.moth.rapy in advanced gastric cancer(A-GC).AIM To assess wh.th.r treatment delay affects th. clinical outcomes of ch.moth.rapy in *** Th.s single-center retrospective study examined consecutive patients with.A-GC between April 2012 and July 2018. In total, 110 patients with.stage Ⅳ A-GC wh. underwent ch.moth.rapy were enrolled. We defined th. wait time(WT) as th. interval between diagnosis and ch.moth.rapy initiation. We evaluated th. influence of WT on overall survival(OS).RESULTS Th. mean OS was 303 d. Th. median WT was 17 d. We divided th. patients into early and elective WT groups, with.a 2-wk cutoff point. Th.re were 46 and 64 patients in th. early and elective WT groups, respectively. Compared with.th. elective WT group, th. early WT group h.d significantly lower albumin(Alb)levels and h.gh.r neutroph.l/lymph.cyte ratios and C-reactive protein(CRP)levels but not a lower performance status. Th. elective WT group underwent more combination ch.moth.rapy th.n did th. early WT group. OS was different between th. two groups(230 d vs 340 d, respectively). Multivariate analysis revealed th.t h.gh.r CRP levels, lower Alb levels and monoth.rapy were significantly related to a poor prognosis. To minimize potential selection bias,patients in th. elective WT group were 1:1 propensity score match.d with.patients in th. early WT group; no significant difference in OS was found(303 d vs 311 d, respectively, log-rank P = 0.9832).CONCLUSION A longer WT in patients with.A-GC does not appear to be associated with.a worse prognosis.

Syph.litic alopecia (SA) is a rare skin manifestation in secondary syph.lis and sometimes indistinguish.ble from oth.r alopecia. SA is of 2 types, symptomatic and essential, and 3 clinical types, moth.eaten or patch. pattern, diffuse pattern and a combination of both. SA in our case indicated symptomatic SA with.moth.eaten h.irloss. A 46-year-old Japanese h.mosexual man experienced h.irloss followed by th. pruritic skin rash. Ph.sical examination of th. scalp sh.wed diffusely spread papulosquamous eryth.ma and incomplete h.irloss around th. lesions. Th. scalp lesions appeared as “moth.eaten alopecia”. Serological examination for syph.lis and h.V were positive. Th.s, SA complicated with.h.V infection was diagnosed. h. was treated with.a single perioral dose of ampicillin for 4 weeks, th.n h.s condition improved rapidly and h.ir regrowth.occurred. h.V-infected persons sh.w a h.gh.incidence of syph.lis. Th.refore, h.V test sh.uld be considered for patients with.alopecia.

OBJECTIVE To investigate 1) th. glomerular mRNA expression and protein activity of antioxidant enzymes (AOEs) including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutath.ne peroxidase (GSh.Px) and th. glomerular content of lipid peroxide-malondiadeh.de (MDA), 2) th. effects of probucol (P), a potent antioxidant agent on th.se AOEs and MDA levels, in th. ch.onic ph.se of subtotal neph.ectomized *** Th. adult male Spregue-Dawley rats were randomly divided into th.ee groups at th. first week after subtotal renal ablation. Group 1 was sh.m rats (sh.m n=8), group 2 underwent 5/6 neph.ectomy with.ut special th.rapy (5/6 Nx n=8), and group 3 with.5/6 neph.ectomy received probucol (5/6 Nxs+P n=8) at a dose of 1% in th. rat ch.w. At th. 12th.week after P was administrated, all of th. rats were sacrificed to remove left kidney for th. determination of glomerular level of MDA, activity of SOD, and GSh.Px, glomerular mRNA expression of AOEs by North.rn blot analysis as well as a h.stological *** In 5/6 Nx, serum ch.lesterol, proteinuria increased and creatinine clearance decreased progressively with.age as compared with.th.t in sh.m. Th.se abnormalities as well as glomerulosclerosis index (GI) ameliorated with.th. administration of probucol at th. 12th.week after subtotal neph.ectomy [GI: sh.m 3.12±1.20, Ph. probucol th.rapy also significantly improved th. decrease of glomerular Mn-SOD and GSh.Px both.at mRNA level and protein activity and th. increase of glomerular MDA *** We demonstrated a deficiency of glomerular AOEs in th. ch.onic ph.se of remnant kidney, wh.ch.may contribute to th. progression of renal injury. Th. protective effects of probucol on both.renal functional impairment and th. development of glomerulosclerosis may be partially associated with.improving surviving glomerular AOEs.

In case of an emergency fire in veh.cle tunnel, th. ventilation system sh.uld be operated effectively to control th. th.rmal fume and smoke inside tunnel. h.wever, it is quite difficult to predict every kind of emergency fire by fire tests because th. actual movement of th.rmal fume and smoke is affected by many factors such.as ventilation system, structure of th. tunnel, etc., especially for tunnels equipped with.transverse ventilation system on wh.ch.rare experimental and numerical studies h.ve been found so far. In th.s paper, a th.ee dimensional numerical simulator using LES turbulence model is developed to simulate th. movement of th.rmal fume induced by emergency fire in veh.cle tunnel. Th. SMAC meth.d is employed to calculate th. pressure and velocity fields. Th. upwind differnece sch.me with.th. th.rd order accuracy is applied for th. discretization of convection terms of th. governmental equations. As th. applications of th. present simulator, th. beh.vior of th.rmal fume induced by emergency fire in a veh.cle tunnel with.two direction traffic is analyzed. It is confirmed th.t th. partial transverse ventilation system is more effective th.n th. longitudinal ventilation system under large and small velocities of longitudinal bulk flow inside tunnel. Simulation result also sh.ws th.t remaining th. velocity of longitudinal bulk flow near zero around fire source can provide th. best working condition for partial transverse ventilation system.
