The effect of vinyl acetate （VA） content in ethylene vinyl acetate （EVA） copolyrner on the mechanical properties of polypropylene was investigated. Three different EVA copolymers with concentrations of 3 wt%, 6 wt%, 9 wt%, 12 wt% and 15 wt%, were blended to polypropylene. The mechanical properties such as yield and tensile strengths, elastic modulus, Izod impact strength, hardness and melt flow index of the blends were investigated. Relationship between type of vinyl acetate and concentrations, mechanical, MFI and morphological properties were explored.

The results of the study of raw mix preparation and foam glass-ceramics production using diatomite as a raw material were presented in the following article. A mixture of diatomite and 40% NaOH solution was subjected to heating at a constant temperature of 775 ℃. Samples of foam glass-ceramic from diatomite with an average density of 290-580 kg/m^3, compressive strength of 1.7-7.8 MPa and thermal conductivity of 0.08-0.14 W/（m·K） were obtained. The investigations have shown that the hydrothermal pretreatment of mixture at the temperature of 90 ℃ may lead to the acceleration of the leaching of amorphous SiO_2 from diatomite. It was discovered that the resulting soluble alkali silicates promote the process of foaming during heating and reduce the average density of the obtained samples. The optimal duration of the leaching process was estimated to be 30 minutes, which corresponds to the yield of SiO_2 equal to 42.5% by the weight of dry diatomite.

Background Although clozapine is the most effective drug for treatment-resistant schizophrenia,its use remains restricted in clinical practice in *** delay in initiating treatment with clozapine and its impact on disease outcome needs *** To identify the implications of delaying clozapine initiation in clinical outcomes among people with treatment-resistant *** Subjects with treatment-resistant schizophrenia,stabilised on clozapine monotherapy,were recruited from the outpatient clinic of a general hospital psychiatry unit offering tertiary care services in Thrissur district,Kerala,India.A retrospective cohort design was employed,and information on duration of illness,total duration of treatment and duration of treatment with clozapine was *** symptom status was measured using the Positive and Negative Syndrome *** associated with higher symptom scores were analysed using an independent sample f test,Spearman correlation and multiple linear *** Forty subjects stabilised on long-term clozapine therapy formed the study *** mean dose of clozapine used in the study population was 200 *** mean duration of antipsychotic treatment before starting clozapine was 89.3 months(7.4 years).The duration of treatment before starting clozapine was found to have a significant positive association with the total Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale score(correlation coefficient 0.40;p=0.01)and negative symptom score(correlation coefficient 0.33;p=0.04).The multiple regression analysis adjusting for covariates showed that the duration of treatment before starting clozapine was an independent factor associated with a higher negative symptom score in the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(slope p=0.05;p=0.02;R2=0.27).Conclusion Poor treatment outcomes in treatmentresistant schizophrenia could be secondary to a delay in initiating clozapine therapy.

Microstructure and Deformation Behavior of Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al Alloy during Hot Forming Process

The microstructure evolution and formability of Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy related to the initial microstructures and processing variables were investigated during hot forming process. The experimental results show that the α-phase growth is controlled by solute diffusion during the heat treatment processes. Four different microstructures were established by combinations of several heat treatments, and Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy shows excellent formability both above and below the β transus temperature. The alloy possesses low deformation resistance and active restoration mechanism during the deformation. A constitutive equation describing the hot deformation behavior of Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy was obtained. Higher fl ow stress was observed for the acicular morphology of α phase in microstructures with large aspect ratios as compared with that of small aspect ratios. Due to the dynamic recovery in soft β phase, and the dynamic recrystallization and breakage of acicular α-phase, fl ow softening occurred signifi cantly during deformation. Dynamic recrystallization also occurred especially in the severely deformed regions of forged parts.

Dielectric measurements were performed on middle phase microemulsions composed of sodium dodecylsulfate(SDS), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB), n-butanol, n-heptane and brine. Distinct and unique dielectric behavior, with characteristic frequency dependence regularity on the salinity of the microemulsions, was observed in the low-frequency range from 10-10(3)Hz. It can be considered to be an interfacial polarization mechanism.

Surface morphology and its relationship with microstructure in Ta/NiFe/IrMn/CoFe/Ta multilayer system deposited by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering have been investigated in dependence of Ta buffer and NiFe seed layer thicknesses using atomic force microscopy. The structural parameters such as grain size, dislocation density, texture and strain were calculated. For each surface, a self-affinity behavior with mean fractal dimensions in the range of 2.03-2.18 was found. Additionally, it was also observed that the surface of all samples has locally smooth textured surface structure in the short range. The texture aspect parameter and texture direction index have been obtained for isotropy/anisotropy surface texture. A significant relationship between the surface texture and the strength of the 〈111〉 texture in IrMn layer has been found. The analysis indicated that the surface roughness is strongly affected by the thicknesses of the NiFe seed and Ta buffer layers.

AIM： To explore mutations around the interferon sensitivity-determining region （ISDR） which are associated with the resistance of hepatitis C virus lb （HCV-lb） to interferon-α treatment. METHODS： Thirty-seven HCV-lb samples were obtained from Hong Kong patients who had completed the combined interferon-α/ribavirin treatment for more than one year with available response data. Nineteen of them were sustained virological responders, while 18 were non-responders. The amino acid sequences of the extended ISDR （eISDR） covering 64 amino acids upstream and 67 amino acids downstream from the previously reported ISDR were analyzed. RESULTS： One amino acid variation （I2268V, P = 0.023） was significantly correlated with treatment outcome in this pilot study with a limited number of patients, while two amino acid variations （R2260H, P = 0.05 and $2278T, P = 0.05） were weakly associated with treat- ment outcome. The extent of amino acid variations within the ISDR or eISDR was not correlated with treat- ment outcome as previously reported. CONCLUSION： Three amino acid mutations near but outside of ISDR may associate with interferon treatment resistance of HCV-lb patients in Hong Kong.
