Reproducibility of RTVue retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and optic nerve head measurements in normal and glaucoma eyes

Background RTVue spectral-domain optical coherence tomography （OCT） is a new, ultra high-speed and high-resolution instrument, potentially to measure the presence of glaucoma or its progression accurately. The objective of this study was to evaluate its reproducibility of retinal nerve fiber layer （RNFL） thickness and optic nerve head （ONH） measurements in normal and glaucoma eyes. Methods This study was an observational clinical study. One eye was selected randomly from each of 89 normal individuals and 63 glaucoma patients in a range of severity. RNFL thickness and ONH were measured 3 times on the same day to determine intrasession variability. The same instrument was used by the same operator for all scans. Intrasession within-subject standard deviation （Sw）, precision （1.96xSw）, coefficient of variation （CVw, 100xSw/overall mean）, and intraclass coefficient （ICC） were calculated to evaluate reproducibility. Results RTVue OCT demonstrated double hump patterns in the RNFL profiles. High reproducibility was observed in all ONH parameters. For normal eyes, the value of ICC ranged between 0.98 and 1.00. For eyes with different extent of glaucoma, it ranged between 0.94 and 1.00. High reproducibility was also observed in RNFL thickness measurements. The values of ICC for averaged RNFL thickness ranged between 0,95 and 1.00 in all cases. For regional parameters, it ranged from 0,94 to 0.98 for normal eyes, 0.94 to 1.00 for mild glaucoma eyes, 0.87 to 1.00 for moderate glaucoma eyes, and 0.77 to 0.97 for severe glaucoma eyes. The nasal regions of severe glaucoma appeared to be most variable, as nasal lower region and inferior nasal region had the ICC values of 0.77 and 0.87. Conclusion Reproducibility of RTVue RNFL and ONH measurements was excellent in normal and glaucoma groups.

Silk as a natural biomaterial is considered as a promising bone substitute in tissue *** and fibroin are the main components of silk and display unique features for their programmable mechanical properties,biocompatibility,biodegradability and morphological *** has been reported that sericin recombinant growth factors(GFs)can support cell proliferation and induce stem cell differentiation through cross-talk of signaling pathways during tissue *** transgenic technology allows the productions of bioactive heterologous GFs as fusion proteins with sericin,which are then fabricated into solid matrix or hydrogel ***,using an injectable hydrogel derived from transgenic platelet-derived GF(PDGF)-BB silk sericin,we demonstrated that the PDGF-BB sericin hydrogel effectively augmented osteogenesis induced by bone morphogenetic protein(BMP9)-stimulated mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)in vivo and in vitro,while inhibiting adipogenic *** gene expression and protein-protein interactions studies demonstrated that BMP9 and PDGF-BB synergistically induced osteogenic differentiation through the cross-talk between Smad and Stat3 pathways in ***,our results provide a novel strategy to encapsulate osteogenic factors and osteoblastic progenitors in transgenic sericin-based hydrogel for robust bone tissue engineering.

Tetrandrine inhibits proliferation of colon cancer cells by BMP9/PTEN/PI3K/AKT signaling

Despite advances in screening and treatment,colon cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related *** novel and useful drug treatment targets is also an urgent need for clinical ***(Tet)is extracted from the Chinese medicinal herbal medicine,which is a well-known calcium blocker with a variety of pharmacological activities,including *** this study,we recruited cell viability assay,flow cytometry analysis,cloning formation to confirm that Tet can inhibit the proliferation of SW620 cells,and induce ***,we confirmed that Tet up-regulates the mRNA and protein level of BMP9 in SW620 ***-expression BMP9 enhances the anticancer effects of Tet in SW620 cells,but these effects can be partly reversed by silencing ***,Tet reduces phosphorylation of Aktl/2/3 in SW620 cells,which could be elevated by overexpressed BMP9 and impaired by silencing ***,we demonstrated that Tet reduces phosphorylated PTEN,which can be promoted by overexpressed BMP9,analogously also be attenuated through silencing ***,we introduced a xenograft tumor model to investigate the anti-proliferative effect of Tet,further to explore the effects of BMP9 and PTEN in SW620 *** findings suggested that the anti-cancer activity of Tet in SW620 cells may be mediated partly by up-regulating BMP9,followed by inactivation PI3K/Akt through up-regulating PTEN at least.

Development of component stiffness equations for thread-fixed one-side bolt connections to an enclosed rectangular hollow section column under tension

Organic room temperature phosphorescence(RTP)materials have potential applications in information technology and ***,the precise control of the afterglow in reversible manners remains challenging for organic ***,we report a kind of organic RTP material fabricated by simple heating mixtures of tartaric acid(TA)and aromatic acids,which can switch their phosphorescence by *** mixtures show tunable phosphorescence from indigo to orange with phosphorescence efficiency of up to 53.99% due to locking different organic luminogens by the TA-formed matrix through the noncovalent *** afterglow of those materials lasts a few seconds and disappears by water fumigation,which can be repeated in response to wet/heat *** drop-casting those materials on glass slides,a laser-repatternable phosphorescence is achieved by facile laser direct writing and quenched by water *** results open the opportunity for the design of smart stimuli-responsive phosphorescence materials from sustainable natural products.

Meta label associated loss for fine-grained visual recognition

Recently, intensive attempts have been made to design robust models for fine-grained visual recognition, most notably are the impressive gains for training with noisy labels by incorporating a reweighting strategy into a meta-learning framework. However, it is limited to up or downweighting the contribution of an instance for label reweighting approaches in the learning process. To solve this issue, a novel noise-tolerant method with auxiliary web data is proposed. Specifically, first, the associations made from embeddings of well-labeled data with those of web data and back at the same class are measured. Next, its association probability is employed as a weighting fusion strategy into angular margin-based loss, which makes the trained model robust to noisy datasets. To reduce the influence of the gap between the well-labeled and noisy web data, a bridge schema is proposed via the corresponding loss that encourages the learned embeddings to be coherent. Lastly, the formulation is encapsulated into the meta-learning framework, which can reduce the overfitting of models and learn the network parameters to be noise-tolerant. Extensive experiments are performed on benchmark datasets, and the results clearly show the superiority of the proposed method over existing state-of-the-art approaches.
